When we finish killing our citizens, who’re we going to rule?

BY: Abraham Deng Luth, USA, DEC/25/2013, SSN;

Dear my fellow citizens, please, pray for Jieng people in Malakal! I am hearing very disturbing news! To my fellow citizens from Nuer, urge your people in Malakal to refrain from killing civilians. Do your best to stop this war and urge Dr. Riek to accept dialogue; it is not a good idea to overthrow President Kiir but he can step down if his conscience tells him so or the parliament can act.

Otherwise, let’s wait for 2015. So, our current issues have several solutions but overthrowing Kiir by force is not one of them.

This is because if one of your own, a nuer, comes to power today, you will not want the Dinkas or the Equatorians to do what you are doing today?

Overthrowing an elected president is not a good precedence for a nation that wants to develop itself.

This unwarranted war is a waste of our national resources in terms of its countless lives and economic apparatus! The aggression has gone wild and people are killing each other like they don’t want to live with each other again at all! This is sad!

More Jieng people are being killed. This is evident in Akobo, Bor, Bentiu, and now in Malakal. So, please, stop the killings. You have made your points and you are heard. So, let’s sit down and talk.

President Kiir may just call it a quit to save lives and let the Nuers take over! There seems to be several forces acting on the Nuer militia and their aggression seems to be non-stop (suicide mission i.e. The Nuers vs. The Nation)

These forces, as one of my Nuer friends told me, are successive marginalization policies (that the Nuers are treated like a second class citizens), president kiir’s dictatorship styles, Juba Killings and Ngundeeng’s prophecies!

To my Nuer brothers and sisters, I do not know much about Ngundeng’s prophecies but from what I heard, one of them was that many people will die before South Sudan can be a better nation for all but I think enough have died.

The president is calling for dialogue. Ngundeeng’s prophecies can also be achieved through dialogue. So, please, stop the violence and let’s try to sit down and talk ourselves to peace and the nation we want to build together.

The president needs to see this violence with a new frame; it has nothing to do with what or how it started! It has taken a form and life of its own! Addressing it needs a new thinking, a fresh look!

The President can do the following things to help create viable conditions for dialogue:

1. Apologize to the Nuers for the atrocities committed in Juba by his security apparatus
2. Apologize to the people of South Sudan for his misrules
3. Tell the people of South Sudan that he is ready to step down if that is what people would want to see to stop killing each other
4. Issue amnesty to Dr. Riek and his forces and release the detainees
5. Ask for a dialogue and reiterate his willingness to step down unless the people want him to continue until 2015
6. Announcing that he is not going to run for re-election in 2015
7. Call for a meeting of all South Sudanese political and social forces to discuss the ways out of this mess
8. Ask for a full support of the peace process by the regional and international communities
9. Stop the use of force and only participate in war when attacked (ceasefire)
10. Stop involving other countries, militarily, in South Sudan affairs unless they are neutral and not supporting one side.

Dr. Riek will need to do the following things on his side as well:

1. Apologize for the loss of innocent lives as a result of his forces aggression on civilians
2. Order his forces to stop aggression toward the Dinkas
3. Accept ceasefire: stay where he is now and no more advancement and attack
4. Accept dialogue
5. Commit himself to the peace and reconciliation that he started a while back in the areas that he controls
6. Ask for a full support of the peace process by the regional and international communities
NB: If these are done and a peace is achieved, the South Sudanese people may support the pardoning of criminal charges.

    Deng,
This thing Can only be stopped by the President and your suggestions to him are valid. The reason Why Riek has no such ability is, the president’s security took this on Riek killing people in his very own house in Juba, while the rest of the so called coup plotters are arrested without attempt on their lives, what about Madam Rebecca who is under house arrest only? Why did they take it on Nuer when, There were Dinkas and Equatorians in the so called coup plotters?
the death of Dinka is as painful as the death of Nuer which was started by the President! Shame on him. Now if the president can not have control over his professional soldiers, How can Riek have control over well armed cattle people who have lost relatives in juba and are bitter about this? How can they be convinced that what happened in Juba is not following them, when the president continues to pursue Riek.
How can we tell a nuer villager that the Jieng and their president are not coming after to you when it clearly happened in juba?
So the more he pursues Riek, The more message it send that the government’s hunt on the Nuer is continuing and they the Nuer will continue to kill any Jieng they come across!
So Garang the solution is just as you said, Kirr should not pursue Machar anymore and Riek must stop further attacks as well but the solution rests on Salva kirr who started and is maintaining this fire!

Elijah, Kiir must persue Riek to the end. Kiir has a mandate to protect every South Sudanese and foreigners, who happen to be in our territory. Riek is an outlaw, who kills, robes and loots without any responsibility or accountability. The more he remains at large, the more deaths across the Greater Upper Nile. You must know that the killings in Juba were not ordered by Kiir. Those responsible will answer. But Riek ordered for the killing of Dinka in Bentiu, Akobo, Bor and now in Malakal. This includes the death of the peace keepers, in Akobo.

    • Elijah Samuel says:

      Mohd,
As the White man says, the bus stops with the commander in Chief, Kirr is the head of the illegal tribal militia he recruited and therefor he realized the killings will take him to ICC and send out agents like yourself to exculpate him and will not!!!
Kirr Mandate apparently to only protect Jiengs not all South Sudanese as you said, thus under his watch Nuer Women, Children and old people were killed, This there is no doubt about. Concerning Riek, He did not need to give any order for the surviving sons and husbands of those killed in Juba to take the law in their hands, and ICC will find that out. So help your Kirr get ready for ICC as there are many surviving eye witnesses to his crimes.

    Deng Lueth,
i agree with Elijah, your judgement directly show your side as a dinka not citizen of this nation. why do you dinkas kill other people while you don’t want to be killed? You killed Gai Tut and you don’t want francis, kuot and keribino to be killed. this mass killing of NUER is not beginning this year it started in kaldaki and now it had repeated itself, please don’t charge any thing to Dr. Riek b/c since we voted for referendum Dr. Machar has kept calling for reconciliation and resolving of SPLM differences but pres. kirr said there is no room for dialogue, why now you guys crying day and night for the fight against Almighty NUER while you inject the civil war by you guys.
don’t worry we will stop it when we arrived in warrap and malual. Dr. Machar have no blame.

  4. Okot Pal says:

    Folks,
There was no coup in Juba. Kiir and his cohorts concocted this plan to get rid of his political opponents. Project Telar has now resulted to the loss of thousands of innocent lives and the blood of the innocent will haunt Kiir, Telar, Bona and group.

  5. Manoon Thonchol says:

Mr. 13012 Chairman, your demands are to the point. Kiir needs to step down if he really cares about South Sudanese people. This violence will never end with Kiir still in power, period.
It is also an illusion to suggest that peace and reconciliation will happen while the guy who orchestrated tribal violence is still the president of the people who murdered. This is insane.

  6. jpt says:

RSS president concocted coup turned out to be a lie, an intentional thought to clear a way for himself, he doesn’t deserve legitimacy. Kiir has executive brain dysfunction and poor judgement even in appointing irrelevantly his friends to the positions that are incompatible to their wisdoms or training background.
He appointment a legal advisor; who needs legal advisor so blind leading a blind?
Not only that he has placed a judge to the information post, a person who appeared to have understanding of judging others but unable to look into his own errors of judgement and illiterate coming to diplomacy and reconciliation.
why a president would form militia army from his tribesmen while he has hand picked SPLA and National security command under his authority or manipulation?
Kiir proved a coward by feeling insecure within his security organs he commands but out of being scared.

  7. Adeekdheeng says:

I believe all has been stated otherwise dialogue is not a problem. It happen today that I attend the demonstration in Washington DC that was misconstrue as for South Sudanese unfortunately Nuer attend the rally only. The sign post was written Kiir must go that was the same back in 1991 that Garang must go. The CPA was not brought by Riek but John Garang and Kiir who preserver to stay in the movement for all the years till end. Many other South Sudanese who did not rebel against the movement are consider the part of the dialogue that bring CPA. Today the Riek greed of power windup being taken as Kiir problem. That is not true Riek want power whether it is in Equatoria or elsewhere he just need to be the one on top. Mr. Deng I agree with most of your comment in the document written above but this is not true “President Kiir may just call it a quit to save lives and let the Nuers take over! There seems to be several forces acting on the Nuer militia and their aggression seems to be non-stop (suicide mission i.e. The Nuers vs. The Nation)”. I stated that if Garang would have quit for the Riek reason would there be peace or CPA I don’t think so. Kiir is an elected president of the South Sudan until the term is over. In addition there is no power sharing of that dialogue either because Riek has not form his party? There is no way a party split itself and share powers within I never see nor I agree with such move. Riek may return with his empty as usual.

  8. General Motors says:

    Dear Abraham Deng Luth,

Greetings to you from our beloved motherland South Sudan, let me tell the the truth, there is no coup attempt as alleged by our president kiir, he kiir wants to get rid of all his opposition in the party, that is why he created the story of coup attempt by Dr. Riek to push them out from the party. He (Kiir) ordered the disarming of all republican guards belonging to former vice president and this way how war started and he (Kiir) sent his soldier to kill Nuer civilians in Juba residential areas e.g Gudele area is worst part and Dr. Riek was forced into a rebellion.
