What makes a good government for the South?

BY: Moses Dang Gatluak, CALGARY, CANADA

APR 8/2010, SSN; What makes a good government are justice and democracy. In terms of leadership, justice is the key to bringing fairness among people by whatever means possible. Now in south Sudan, it is time to judge between the last 5-year ruling government which has failed the entire nation for the half decade and a new SPLM/DC party which is eager to resuscitate the country.

In fact, after April 11, 2010 election Southerners want to see some change, however, SPLM as a governing party for the last 5yrs still doesn't admit its weaknesses and yet whining to be re-elected to the office of GOSS, so that citizens of South are in a huge bewilderment to handle that coming poll scenario which is already in the mid crisis and soon to cast votes.

Presidential election in South Sudan looks to be ironically creating another civil war among Southerners due to the fact that rights of the civilians seem to be violated by South politicians. If the objective for the call of election should turn into distress, it would better not address it the way every citizen of South can participant before.  The point in which South representatives can deal with is to avoid threatening voters.  They must follow and respect the electoral laws and rules to make the election fair.

It is their right (civilians of South) to pick their own choice and vote for whoever they think can raise their issues or can bring change since they have no voice for  the last 5 years as there was no structure put down for election. If it is happening now as it seems to be, all eligible persons (18yrs & above) need to involve in that coming poll like other countries do.  However, their rights and freedom do not need to be dictated when casting ballots.

To frighten them (citizens of South) would be a sign of despotism in the next regime. If SPLM party has been ruled for the half decade and there wasn't difference made, momentarily it is their choice to choose who they want. In their convenience valid poll, whoever they vote to the office must and may be expected and accepted to be the next president without brutal action taken by the losing party.

Peaceful ballot is the only thing that Southerners want to see in this upcoming voting. Moreover, two rival sections who compete for presidential seat need to be patient in order not to invite the same situation that happened in Kenya and Iran, and on the other hand to avoid being added up in the list of criminals who are under search warrant to face justice.

Again, its may also pertaining that South Sudanese statesmen/women have been not understood an objective of CPA that was signed 5yrs ago.  But they require to be aware of all eyes even CPA witnesses are watching what's going on in South, therefore it would be wise to preserve every individual rights instead of using force or fraud during election.

In addition, the aim of SPLM party in the first place was to equalize people of South as claimed, yet the activities in which the government runs its offices are different, party vision's been twisted and totally act opposite to equality and unity, all citizens are not treated with the same manner. Hence, the words equality and unity are being utilized just to garnish the discrimination that's circulating around.

On the contrary, future hope of Southerners as being abused by their leaders due to insufficiencies of leadership qualities and self-interests.  As a matter of fact, in this ballot South politicians can let them (South citizens) make their own selections that is best to their interest as indigenous folks.

If the government is still neglecting their rights and freedom, there won't be a point to claim democracy principle or to believe words mouthed out by two opponent parties leaders. For sure, that will be all about ignorance similar to issues South Sudanese local communities usually try to get the attention of current authority to deal with and never take any measure.

The argument of the existing regime for re-election to the office of GOSS is unreasonable because this office's been ruled for an adequate term and never performed or met the needs of the nation. Its thriving turns into woe and/or anguish with the huge impact on South citizens.

To elucidate the point, what SPLM party needs the most today is to reform its reputation and get back all the independent personnel who have quit the coterie due to unfair political entertaining within the party itself.

Sincerely, the democracy and justice that the governing clique's been entombed are presently becoming the issues of focus. Nevertheless, contemporary reign is dead wrong to profess this in the last minute as they only introvert on their personal wishes and interests, and also denied fair treatment and freedom of all citizens as well.
