SPLM Presidential candidacy must be open to all

BY: Kidepo Longiro, KAMPALA, UGANDA, NOV/04/2013, SSN;

In my opinion the issue of SPLM Presidential candidate should be left for the SPLM Convention to discuss and choose who the party thinks can take the SPLM Presidential ticket come 2015 election. President Kirr, Vice President Wani, Dr. Riek, ex-SPLM Secretary General Pagan, Madam Nyandeng or any other SPLM presidential aspirants are all sons and daughters of South Sudan and have equal democratic rights to contest for the Presidency if they want.

Like other democratic political parties in the world, SPLM also allows internal democracy through convention or primaries this time around. Therefore, it is up to the SPLM Party to decide who they want to lead the Party and the Country this time around NOT particular tribal sentiments in Newspapers to discourage any of the presidential aspirants.

The former Vice President-Dr Riek Machar had openly declared to the public that he is contesting for Presidency and the writer of this article applaud this courageous idea. The writer is expecting more SPLM candidates or South Sudanese from other political parties to declare their aspirations for Presidency openly without any fear including the current sitting President- Mr. Salva Kiir, if he is still interested to contest for the next Presidency.

For those who are interested and prefer to keep silent, the writer of this article welcomes their attributes too.

The SPLA/M liberation war was fought collectively not by an individual or segment of one community who has claimed the whole war episode by behaving like dinosaurs in the society not, remembering even that most feared animal- the dinosaur and its species was put to an end by the very mankind around who were victims of the giant dinosaurs.

I do not know why it is difficult for most African leaders including President Kiir to retire like Nelson Mandela of South Africa who served one term (4 years only) and retired with dignity after delivering Black South Africans free from White apartheid regime which was the most important achievement.

Most South Sudanese should have remembered and acknowledged all the positive aspects about the unique leadership style of Kiir in handling issues when he first came to power –before he was messed up by his wrong/tribal advisers who think President Kiir in the like of Telar Deng.

President Kiir was known for keenness, partiality, generosity, forgiving, kind hearted and religious person to some extent, etc… just to mention a few, but of course this does not justify tribal opportunists to advocate/lobby barring, threatening or neutralizing other South Sudanese energetic Presidential aspirants who may deliver better using the best style of leadership this country might have never experienced before.

The Republic of South Sudan is not a monarchy but a democracy that must be respected; tellingly people should be ready to accept transformation and changes in this country. I do not know where on earth or which political party in the world advocates baring resourceful people for aspirations to be leaders?

With all due respect to our current Government, people should be presently analyzing the achievements of the current Government from day of inception in delivering basic social services to our people for the past 9-11 years (from 2005-2013/15). These kinds of evaluations should be examined across our states and communities taking into consideration the challenges faced by the government along the road while delivering these basic social services.

People should choose a leader based on his/her capacity to deliver or what he/she has delivered for the past years or what s/he can deliver in future.

Equatoria people should identify which leader will listen and implement the call for Federal System of Government deliberated during the Equatoria Conference 2013. Dr Riek Machar had already made it clearly in the Equatoria Conference that he is a Federalist and believes in a Federal system of Governance.

This does not mean I support Dr Riek but every Equatorian who attended that conference can testify this. Dr. Riek Machar has throughout been attending and listening to Equatoria Conferences in which President Kiir has never attended, but instead sends Dr Riek or his Terrany/Telar/wrong adviser who thought the President with all theft styles and looting of public fund.

But when it comes to Bahr El-Gazal conferences our President Kiir can fly easily up to Wau, Kuajok, etc when he could not attend Equatoria Conferences which are held in Juba Capital much nearer than Wau or Kuajok!

The Equatoria conference was highly disputed, politicized and propagated by some reporters in newspapers-mostly from Dinka origin– as an attempt to water down issues affecting Equatoria States and people in Equatoria and Republic of South Sudan.

Some of the reporters had openly written that their community (one community) members are dominating all high salaried paid jobs in the Republic of South Sudan Government (even without qualifications) because they were army generals and had fought the war without the involvement of others all along just to justify institutionalization of corruption by one community in the RSS.

That is why when the so-called those who fought the war alone are corrupting the system specially money embezzlement no one can dare apprehend but only poor ones are cheaply detained even without proofs of documents.

South Sudanese and the international community have been reading and watching all the terrains around South Sudan publicly as portrayed by these uncivilized bunches of lunatics in this country.

Mind you, these kinds of songs have reached some of our deaf ears, only 2015 will prove it. Meaning, people should also expect one community- Dinka- alone to vote and bring up an SPLM presidential candidate from Dinka origin through democracy since one community has reduced national leaders to community levels instead of applauding them as National figures by doing right things to others.

Dwelling much on the split of 1991 is tribally-motivated headache that will not save you any more, because for some of us who had experienced the worst experience in New Sudan live style (liberated areas) before the CPA.

There were worst human rights crimes committed by some of high profile members of SPLM/Government from Dinka origin against Equatoria people that included pandemic rape cases on under-age Equatoria girls, women and forced marriages.

Incredibly, some of these senior public officials who’d committed these kinds of human rights abuses are currently holding National Ministerial, Governorships and other constitutional positions (such as the alleged rapes in Pageri by Kuol Manyang).

However, I do not know why some people would keep on hanging on 1991 split. How about the Nuer of Gajaak massacre, the raid on Naser and others?

Did any Nuer come up and start blaming our late Leader(s) in Newspapers, for instance, for having instigated the killing of innocent Gajaak people?

How about the deaths of Joseph Oduho, Kerbino Kuanyi, William Nyuon, others and several assassination attempts against Dr. Riek Machar and the subsequent killing of his late wife (knocked by a vehicle) in Nairobi-James Gichuru road/junction- did people unearth all these out?

What about the Chukudum genocide in 1998 that arose on the issue of Peter Lorot and late Deng Aguang when the innocent Didinga civilians were brutally killed in the search of Peter Lorot and revenge killing against Peter Lorot’s community because of the death of one person only, did any one recall such dark days?

How about the continuous intimidations by same community towards other South Sudanese and international community in South Sudan from time CPA enactment 2005- up to now? Will this ever end and what is the way forward?

Leave democracy to take its course alone and do not interfere with the process. This time you should lobby professionally than barking against Federalism system of rule in your tribal forums.

If you are those who ran to the bush claiming to liberate the people of South Sudan from oppression with a hidden agenda of anti-Equatoria since some of you feared kokora, your colours are already clear to some of us…….

They are all killers and have blood of innocent fellow south Sudanese on their hands. let some not be righteous just because he killed one or two. After the CPA all have a new chapter and should have an equal opportunity to ascend to the highest seat. The current rules while in the seats have killed few of our people, prominently Isaiah Abraham, for which we should impeach them but if they are still ruling why will they prevent others from ruling because of having the blemishes they themselves have if not worse?

I say I personally will vote for Marchar and Lam before i vote for Kirr again.

u started your story well , but reveals your true color at the end …hahahaha …u must be a tribalist, be realistic in your article !!

    • This community is both tribal and greedy toward non-Dinka in South Sudan. But in 2015 election, we shall vote them out, when Nuer and other tribes say enough is enough. Their attitute and embracing their wrongdoing it became constantly annoying. And 2015 should be a year for change, to replace the unwanted rising dictatorship government of Kiir.

      • Raan Naath says:

The writer has said it all. These people have lied enough. We fought the war together but now they said they fought it alone. But since when??? In government, they are the most corrupt and don’t want law to take its course. They prevent democracy to take its course yet they said they fought Khartoum to achieve such principles such as democracy and freedom. Kiir must be removed by 2015 no matter who is behind him.

        • Dear Raan Naath:
Please don’t pull my leg. Whom did you fight the war with? Are you and the likes experiencing some memory loss? Was it not you who allied your forces, known as Friendly Forces, with Jalaba to fight against Dinka during the liberation war? Please don’t cry for the pie/cake which you haven’t sweated cooking it.
You and the Author of this article must go back to Khartoum and Kampala where you were hiding during the war. We will never give up South Sudan for those who betrayed us and our freedom during the war.

If he wanted to tell us that the liberation war was anti-equatoria, then let him tell us why we have Wani Igga as the VP. If we went to bush because of kokoro, then why are we still in Juba?

      • Kidepo says:

        MAJONGDIT-

WHEN WAS WANI IGGA APPOINTED AS VICE PRESIDENT FOR YOU TO SAY LET HIM TELL US WHY WE HAVE WANI IGA AS VICE PRESIDENT?

I thought Wani was appointed after all the Nuer leaders refused to take the position they believed should have been headed by Dr Riak. So Wani is the last resource to be appointed that is why no Equatorian buys his trash appointment by the failed president.

      • philip says:

please the appointment of V.P Wani Igga, is not all the language that you are using as WE have appointed V.P is government is for one tribe? Ya Mr. X if it for one tribe this why Riek is fighting

make researches well before airing non-essential blaming about who killed Gerbino K Bol, William Nyuon, Elijah Hon and you will find out that it was Peter Gadget Yak under the leadership of Dr Risky Hitler. Joseph Oduho was killed by the same nuer in Panyagoor 28/3/93 when SPLM/A recaptured town, him Joseph Oduho, Arok Thon, Dr Hitler Machar and Dr Lam run in 30 minutes to where they got air plane.
Unfortunately Joseph Oduho didn’t manage because of his age unlike the rest, so Dr Risky killed Joseph Oduho and buried information because he couldn’t run any more and SPLA may capture both of them if not doing so for survival.

DAU-NETWORK, RELIABLE SOURCES SAY YOUR DR. RISKY HITLER DROVE AWAY LEAVING ELDER JOSEPH ODUHO BEHIND. IT WAS GARANG’S FORCES PURSUING MACHAR’S RETREATING FORCES WHO KILLED ODUHO AT PANYAGOOR. WHEN MACHAR FORCES DROVE BACK GARANG’S SPLA, THEY FOUND THE DECAYING BODY OF ODUHO AND THEY BURIED HIM AT THE POST.
YOUR DR. RISKY HITLER IS ONLY WHOLLY TO BLAME FOR ODUHO’S DEATH BECAUSE HE INTENTIONALLY ABANDONED THE OLD MEN, PEOPLE SAY DR. RISKY HITLER SHOULD HAVE CARRIED ODUHO IN THAT ONLY ALL-WHEEL DRIVE CAR ON COMPASSIONATE GROUND AS ODUHO WAS TOO OLD TO RUN LIKE THOSE NUER YOUNGER SOLDIERS OF DR. RISKY HITLER.
THIS IS ONE SIDE OF STORY I LEARNT FROM SOMEONE WHO WAS THERE AND HE PERSONALLY BYPASSED THE PHYSICALLY TIRED ODUHO WHO COULD NOT WALK OR RUN ANY MORE. MY SOURCE ACTUALLY LEFT HIS WATER CONTAINER TO ELDER ODUHO AS GARANG’S FORCES WHERE HOTLY PURSUING DR. RISKY HILTER’S RETREATING FORCES. EDITOR

it was senseless political ambition of Dr. naïve and Dr. Nyagat Riek Machar that killed Oduho. The 1991 coup by Dr. Prophet Teny achieved nothing but humiliation and lost of precious life that did not have to be lost. And it is the equatorian who are cheer-leading Dr. Traitor to be the next president of south sudan.

The Equatorians are desperate to the point of forgetting a 20 year-old painful history of Dr. Hitler. they have hidden behind Upper Nile professional militias and warlords to get nothing more than vice president or speakership, a position held by their son, Wani Igga. Why are Equatorians shying away from presidency?

Dr. Prophet Teny may give us the answers.

    • majongdit says:

      Editor,

Dr Machar’s forces were scattered to an extent they could not regroup and organize another attack. Dr Machar and his wife called Emma took off and escaped on a truck leaving behind their special female dog (bitch) called ‘Come On’. The little dog was captured by the SPLA in Panyagoor after Riek fled. The dog was cared for by SPLA and fed well as a prisoner of war. This dog was later renamed Emma by the SPLA after Riek’s white wife.
Dear Editor, please look at it this way: if SPLA could keep the dog safely as a prisoner of war, why would they not do the same for a human being?
Again who is to blame on Joseph Oduho’s death? It is Oduho himself. Why did an old man accept to go to front in such a far distant place? Instead of sitting calmly in Equatoria he opted to gang up with Dr Riek to fight a useless war. And Dr Riek seriously betrayed him.
Look, in the first place, why did Dr Riek allow such an old man to go up to Panyagor when he should have been left in the base in Nasir or Leer?
Secondly, when Dr Riek escaped on a truck, why on earth did he leave behind an old man?
I feel that the question of who killed Oduho is not important. What is important is the wrong decision by Riek to allow such an old man in battle zone.

      • Dear Majongdit:

You have said it all, Brother. However our Brothers and Sisters are living alie, therefore they have difficulty admitting simple truths. I wonder, if some our Compatriots are aware of how the developed world treats or handles their armed criminals. If you are found carrying a gun in the advanced Countries, you will be treated as a killer or someone who is longing to kill and you will be dealt with in the manners suitable to those who are disarming you. If late Uncle Joseph Oduho could walk all the way to Panyagor to inaugurate Riek Machar and his Kawaja Lady Emma into the fake Chairmanship of the SPLA, then he surely deserved his fate.

In 1989, the Jalaba Commander,Col. Majuob pledged to bring Dr. John Garang to Khartoum alive or dead. However he(Majuob) ended up being captured alive by the SPLA in Nasir Town and taken as prisoner of war and eventually released in 1994. If the SPLA captured Jalaba Commander, kept him alive for many years and released him unharmed, Why would they not do the same thing to Uncle Joseph Oduho? The truth of the matter is that Uncle Joseph Oduho was unfortunately killed in the cross fire and there was no way to spare his life. Therefore Dr.Riek Machar and Uncle Oduho himself should be blamed for his death. The Dinka would have been blamed if and only if Uncle Oduho was poisoned to death. In this case, the deceased is wrong and he must carry his own cross to hell or heaven.

“The truth hurts but it is worth telling it”
        Lukudu Gatkuoth Garang!

      • Majongdit,

The Battle zone was supposed to be Jager not Pangagor. Yes, Riek forces were scattered but they came back again. Dr. Machar did not escape in truck and left Oduho behind, however, Keribino was the only person who escaped in van which brought them to Panyagor and there was no dog captured during the attack. I do not know where you got that delusive information.

In fact, I was one of the SPLA soldiers which attacked the SPDF forces in Panyagor. The SPDF forces were in Jaager, Mading Bor, Baidit, Kongoor etc. The SPDF forces actually controlled the whole area of Bor. They were not aware that the SPLA would emerged from Murle side. We the SPLA forces which attacked Panyagor came from Buma, Kopota, Maridi, Yei, and Juba. Our leader was Kuol Manyang. When we were about to reach Jager we branched to the right hand side so we went to up to Gumrok. We stayed in Gumrok for a few days and then we took off from Gumrok we walked through desert until we arrived in Panyagor area.

Shortly before we attacked Pangor, some people from SPDF side, informed us by telephone that Dr. Machar, Arok thon Arok, Oduho, William Nyuony, Kawany Makuei, Gorden Koang, Kerbino Kuanyiny, Atem Gualdit, Kuol Ajak etc were in meeting in Panyagor town. Immediately as we received the news we attacked the Panyagor, however, the most wanted by the SPLA managed to escaped. While all the SPDF forces were behind us, we the SPLA forces we continued retreated the disarrayed SPDF leaders shortly after we left Panyagor we found a body was buried. The SPLA commanders became suspicious they thought it was Dr. Machar body so they ordered the soldiers to dig out the body so the body was dug out so we noticed that it was Oduho’s body and then Kuol Manyang ordered to not rebury the Oduho’s body thus the body was left unburied.

Dr. Machar and his wife with less than 20 soldiers arrived in Ayot. A day later the SPLA took Ayot. Arok thon Arok, William Nyuony, Kawany Makuei, Gorden Koang, Kerbino Kuanying, Atem Gualdit went to Akobo from Panyagor. After few days the SPDF forces attacked the SPLA forces lead by Kuol Manyang in Ayot. Kuol Manyang was wounded in the stomach on the third attack. The SPLA forces were defeated from Ayot back to Panyagor and from Panyagor to Mading Bor. The SPDF forces took Mading from SPLA again and followed SPLA all the way to Equatoria. Between the October 1993 and1994, the SPDF forces took Ngalngala Lirya, Lopon, Lorinya, Kiala, Ikotos, Ithoki, Kimtong, Imitong, Chukudum, Thirtanya, Ipoto, Ame, Moli, Magwei, Pageri, etc from the SPLA.

However, the SPDF withdrew it forces from Equateria in 1995 when John Luk Jok defected in Akobo from SPDF to SPLA, Gabriel Tanginya who was an area commander in Pangak defected from SPDF to Sudan government and Matip who was zonal commander in Bentiu defected from SPDF 1997. Consequently, the SPDF forces which control some part of Bar-El-Gal such Marialbay and Mayan Abut were also withdrawn.

I believe Oduho was killed by SPLA because if Oduho, Dr. machar and Dr. Lam Makol did not defected from the SPLA they would have been arrested and kept in jail like Arok Thon, Kerbino Kuanyin, John Kualang, Majer Gai etc. Again, to you Mr. Majongdit, I just wanted to let you know that the SPDF was not scattered to the extent that it could not regroup itself. In fact SPDF did regrouped itself and defected SPLA in many towns in South Sudan.

Do you recall when Dr. Riek declared his ambition to run for the top seat; Where is he now? He ended up jobless and the same can happen to the ones you are calling. Who knows may be Kiir will send them to exile or shut them up for good.

  11. @Dau network! Spreading lies without evidence became part of your culture. Right?

    • Even Kuol Manyang and Bior Ajang can’t tell how Joseph Oduho died because they got a message from us seven guys who were running in front and identified a body as the remains of uncle Joseph Oduho with 3 close-range shots, that’s why we said that he was killed by close bullets and suspects were his nuer forces because nobody was ahead of us seven soldiers who recovered a body and we conveyed message later to Athor Deng and to then commander Kuol Manyang.

  12. Dear readers, according to my personal understanding, Dr. Riek Machar was not sacked because he openly declared himself to contest for the seat of the presidency come 2015, but because he criticized the same leadership of which he is part of it. For those who tried to mobilized tribes against each other they will not benefit from it.
let us not preach the hatred among our people, we should work for the goodness of this nation.

    • GatCharwearbol says:

      Dear Toney Toney Matot,

Young man, you claim that according to your understanding Dr. Machar was not sacked because he declared his intention to contest for the presidency. He was rather relieved due to the fact that he criticized the leadership in which he was part of it.

The above claim is yours alone and it is what you think and not what you know. The absolute truth is that Dr. Machar was let go because of two things: First, your Uncle Kiir wants Dr. Machar to jump into corruption’s bandwagon with him. But Dr. Machar detests corruption and mismanagement.

Second, Uncle Kiir is not open to suggestions. He has a tunnel vision. Dr. Machar is the opposite. These are two reasons why Dr. Machar was relieved. Stating different would mean denial of the facts.

FROM EDITOR: MR. GATCHARWEARBOL, MANY PEOPLE SERIOUSLY DOUBT IF DR. MACHAR REALLY MISSED TO JUMP ON THE SPLM/A-GOSS CORRUPTION BANDWAGON. MACHAR IS UNSCRUPULOUSLY SHOWING OFF SUCH AN ABUNDANCE OF WEALTH, OPULENCE AND OSTENTATIOUSNESS THAT SURELY VEXES ANY SANE PERSON’S VISUAL AND MORAL JUDGEMENT. AS A FACT, HE IS NOT THE AVERAGE MAN. IF HE WANTS TO BE OUR NEXT PRESIDENT, LET HIM HAVE THE MORAL COMPUNCTION AND DECLARE PUBLICLY AS ANY ‘CIVILIZED’ LEADER (OBAMA-LIKE) ALL HIS FINANCIAL ASSETS AND HIS FAMILY’S TOO.
THEN AND ONLY THEN, THE NATION WILL SAY HE IS THE OPPOSITE OF KIIR, IN YOUR OWN WORDS. TAKE CARE!!!!!

  13. Mohd Adam says:

Seriously, South Sudan started wrongly. The Dinka have no hearts of nation building, what they want is to enrich themselves, grab the land of Equatoria with the view of colonizing the people of Equatoria. I believe many Equatorians now regret, why they voted for the separation. The ending result of the on going marginalization of Equatoria and other smaller tribes across South Sudan, will one day lead to another Rwanda in waiting. People should stand up to fight for their rights instead of whining here and there.

Everybody has blood and can die in the same way Dinkas are killing them. Why fear, you cowards? Well, it says if you cannot stand the heat, then get out of the kitchen. Get out and leave Dinkas to occupy the whole of South Sudan. But if you fight them, they will retreat and leave your towns alone. The world has become a global village, so fear not, they the Dinkas are human beings, they have life and blood, they too die.

During the war, how many of them, ran away from the front line and surrendered to Jalaba, how many of them ran to Khartoum, Panyudo, Kakuma and even those who ran to Nimule, were they not the ones who escaped the Nuer fire from Dr. Riek’s Nuer white army??

  14. The truth is always hard to accept.

  15. Leader says:

    Editor,
Do more research please on your fact about who killed Oduho. Your source may not be reliable enough. One thing I should point out is the fact that Riek’s forces did not come back to Panyagoor after they were chased out from there in 1993. They were chased up to Ayod and beyond, so the talk of them coming back to bury Oduho is pure lie.

In any case, the man died in frontline and could he have been killed in cross-fire. So the opposite side can not be blamed for any intentional killing since the bullet does not differentiate who is who between enemies from one side.
LEADER: NOWHERE DID I MENTION WHO KILLED LATE ELDER ODUHO. BY CONJECTURE, ONE IS BOUND TO ACCUSE ADVANCING GARANG’S FORCES OF FINISHING OFF ODUHO. THE LATE’S BODY FOUND LATER WAS IN A STATE OF DECOMPOSITION. MY POINT WAS WHY DID MACHAR HIMSELF NOT PUT ODUHO ON THE CAR AND DRIVE OFF WITH HIM SINCE LATE JOSEPH ODUHO WAS A VERY IMPORTANT FIGURE IN RIEK’S GROUP?

    • majongdit says:

      Leader,
I was just coming from Pochalla when that fight took place. I can confirm to you that Dr Riek’s forces were defeated terribly and were badly scattered. What remained of them was their dog…a female dog. The SPLA captured the dog and infact the dog was fed. If Oduho was captured he would have been kept because he more important than a dog.
SPLA never killed prisoners of war, the whole world knows that. Oduho died of fatigue. The escape from Panyagor and with his age, you can believe he could have died without a single bullet shot at him. That Dr Riek’s forces came back to bury him is a lie…a big lie. Dr Riek is here alive, let him go show us the grave of Joseph Oduho.

Dau- Network and others, do you want us to believe that Joseph Oduho was killed by Nuer or Dr Riek forces??? I know very many friend who were in the scene when Joseph was captured and sentenced to fire squad by private dinka soldier without taking permission and respecting the protocol of SPLA.
Brother and Sister, nothing new to all of us including the death of William Nyuon and others high ranked South Sudanese whom were murdered by Garang simply because of the word self determination which is nowaday became the song of everyone when we have already lost the lives of brilliant brothers and sister because of one man ideology.
