PRESS STATEMENT Jul/24/2016;
The SPLM/SPLA-IO Mission to Scandinavia countries of Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Norway takes this opportunity to inform all our members and sympathizers worldwide and those inside South Sudan that we strongly condemn the position which has already been taken by General Taban Deng Gai, former SPLM-IO Chief Negotiator and former Minister of Mining and Ambassador Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth to unlawfully announce the unceremonious removal of SPLM Chairman, First Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan and Commander -in-Chief of SPLA-IO, Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon from his position.
Nonetheless, we intensely appreciate and congratulate the Chairman and C-in-C SPLA-IO for having taken this bold and unwavering decision to remove General Taban Deng Gai from his doubling positions as SPLM-IO Chief Negotiator and Minister of Minister on 22nd July, before his fake coup d’état that was orchestrated by President Salva Kiir and Dinka/ Jieng Council of Elders was announced on 23rd July.
The SPLM-IO Mission to Scandinavia, nevertheless, congratulate the Troika, AU, EU, UN and other peace loving body to audaciously denounce the fake coup and continuous with their unwavering stand in recognizing the current SPLM-IO Chairman and FVP of the Republic of South Sudan, Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon as the sole SPLM-IO leader and FVP of South Sudan. We also appreciate their relentless efforts to continuously persuading the two parties namely; SPLM/A-IO and SPLM/A-IG to implement the Agreement on Resolution to the Conflict in South Sudan (ARCISS) in spirit and letter.
In the same token, we condemn in strongest possible terms the ongoing lynching of SPLM-IO members and sympathizers, unsystematic and indiscriminate raping of women and young girls and looting of property of citizens, UNMISS and NGOs agencies by the SPLA-IG and their sponsored Dinka tribal militias known as ‘Mathiang Anyoor’ in Juba town and surrounding areas.
We strongly support and appreciate the position being taken by the IGAD Foreign Minister’s Summit in Nairobi and that of African Union heads of state’s Summit in Kigali, Rwanda and the endorsement of the UN Secretary General Mr. Ban Ki Moon to urgently send an intervention force from the neutral IGAD countries of Kenya, Ethiopia and Rwanda in order to maintain law and order and also to act as a buffer zone to separate the two antagonistic forces in Juba.
Finally, we take this opportunity and appeal to the international NGOs and UN agencies to immediately expedite and accelerate the humanitarian delivery to the affected citizens of Juba and other locations.
