Rescuing the smothered
self-determination
BY: Gatcharwearbor, USA
FEB 9/2010, SSN; Before it dies,
self-determination must be rescued from its predators who are working
day and night to kill it altogether. Among other things, NIF is
determined to trash the CPA in an indirectly executed game plan, the
ploy of divide-and-rule is still being employed. The tactic of so-and-so
is better than so-and-so is another trick that needs to be watched out
for and preached to our commanders that turn to fall for this kind of
hoax without any difficulty.
Rescuing the self-determination requires all southern Sudanese sticking
together and rallying behind this clause. For that to truly happen,
southerners need to leave behind their differences and worries about
achieving this important protocol first.
Our nation truly needs a genuine leader that can take charge when the
need arises but this we need to worry about after self-determination is
achieved. Therefore, it is very important that we all rally behind Salva
Kiir Mayardit in the meantime as we are entering this critical point of
no return in our history.
It is proven that Salva Kiir is incompetent to rule our nation, but at
this point, we have no choice but to accept him as our leader for the
sake of dealing with NCP who is determined to make our secession as
difficult as it could be. Removing the incumbent SPLM’s ruler will be
easy to tackle after we achieved our independence.
SPLM-DC and its supporters need to rally behind Kiir as well because it
is Dr. Lam and Dr. Riek Machar who championed this clause of
self-determination in the first place. Running away from it will mean
favoring the unity of the whole Sudan. This will contradict with what
Dr. Lam believes in.
Dr. Lam has every right to challenge the current incumbent at anytime at
his convenience; this is an inalienable right that can not be taken away
from Dr. Lam Akol. He [Dr. Lam] has been known for this self-government
for the southern Sudanese which is very compelling to those who valued
the self-ruling as important thing to them and to southern Sudanese in
general.
For that to bear fruits, we must all acknowledge that it is not going to
be an easy task; it definitely requires our commitment, patience,
persistence, forgiveness, and take pride in doing away with our
differences for us all to confront this issue as one people with common
goal. This will drastically reduce the difficulties that we will run
into along this bumpy road.
Self-determination is worth fighting for. Thus, we have to give it all
we have, our utmost effort is seriously needed to rescue this clause. As
such, if we let go of the past, it will be easier said than done for
National Congress Party and its allies to smother the self-ruling for
the southern Sudanese at our watch.
By doing so, I guarantee that our way will be free of obstacles that we
might encounter on the way and our winning hint will ramble like a wild
wind. Whatever hoax they will try will not hold any water whatsoever.
Our unity is stronger than splitting ourselves up into countless parties
which make us weaker than we should.
Dr. James Okuk has overlooked what is important for our nation at this
time. Having Dr. Lam refrain from rallying behind Salva Kiir is the
egocentric thing that he could do. South Sudan belongs to all of us; it
is not for Salva Kiir and his supporters. Thus, it would be unwise for
Dr. Lam to avoid fighting for what he started because of Salva Kiir.
Take for example Dr. Riek Machar who spearheaded the self-determination
with Dr. Lam is rallying behind Salva Kiir. It is not because he admires
what Kiir is doing; he is doing for the betterment of south Sudan and
his vision of self-determination.
At the end of day, we will come home after achieving the
self-determination and vote out those whom we deem incompetence to rule
the newly born nation such as Salva Kiir whom we all think or proven to
be incompetence. At this interval, Dr. Lam Akol and his supporters will
sharpen their axes and campaign rigorously to prove that what they have
been doing is truly the better way forward to securing our nation. And
that Dr. Lam is the potential candidate to take on the task of president
Kiir.
Having NIF smothered the self-determination while we are fighting each
other over minor things that we can deal with in our own time is the
stupidest thing that we could possibly do. Salva Kiir and Dr. Lam are
great sons of south Sudan and their ideas are bright to all of us in a
different ways as it is said “different strokes different folks”.
Supporters of Salva Kiir like him for whatever reason and vice versa.
As a result, working together for the common goal of self-determination
or secession of south Sudan is the main topic we only need to focus on.
The rest are the minor cases that we will deal with after achieving the
main goal. I hope my readers will grasp the picture of where I’m heading
with this.
I am a die-hard separatist, which prompt me to write this article as I’m
sensing that we are slipping away from the right track. This is the one
time opportunity in life time that we do not want to miss out. Watching
NCP smothering our right of separation can be construed as our lack of
seriousness in what we really know is worth it and not pay somber
attention to.
It is imperative that our differences be let go right now and focus on
ways to reclaiming the self-determination from being discarded by NCP
