Central Equatoria State facing Dinka Bor influx: The incoming number of Dinka from Jongolie into Central Equatoria State is beyond legislation. The Central Equatoria State stakeholders need to respond to this massive movement of Dinka into the State. What exactly is the cause, or what is pressuring them to move? Unrest in Jongolie must not be used as an excuse. There is something wrong among the government stake holders. The patience of the civil society is running out. This movement compounded with land confiscation will soon lead to insurgency. Stop such movement. Clement Lupayi Lubajo, RSS
Doubting on Isaiah I'm always impressed with your articles, Mr. Isaiah Abraham, but today particularly when mentioning "we are blessed with another Garang in the person of Riak Machar," is quite awkward to me. I don't see the reason you condemned massive corruption practice by this incumbent regime and singled out one pretender looter to be the good one or unless this letter was written by Riak Machar himself in disguise of Isaiah Abraham or his foot licker. Now onward I will never value your profession which I used to tell other people when conversing. Check your writing when talking on general situation not what I have noticed as self interest or matter of showing how much you know English. Apuk Deng, RSS
Who's the original separatist? Chiefs Abiko and his likes are trying to put bias on the South Sudan's history by saying that the late Garang was/is to be credited for achieving the self-determination. Yes, the veteran politicians of two Anya Nyas (i e One and Two) excluding Garang were the starters. OK who said Wad Elfa? Lagu or Machar? Who opened the door for separation after it had been closed in 1983? Who closed it then? So, Mr Abiko we must teach our children a real history, we came a long way and we should tell exactly on/in which way or direction respectively we crossed. Bol Thon, RSS
Irresponsible decision to fight The ongoing case in Unity state in form of cattle raiding needs to be investigated systemically, because the step taken by Warrap and Lakes states authorities by sending SPLA/ Police forces and fighting with Mayandit county government was not a responsible decision at all while the Unity state government under the wise governorship of Lt. Gen, Taban Deng Gai was trying its level best to bring the culprits to book. So I'm calling upon these two states governments to accept Mr. Deng Gai's peace proposal otherwise the case may reach the unwanted degree in the future. James Bi Babul, RSS
Political immaturity to govern To people of Panrieng, my heartfelt sympathies goes to you and great thanks for putting your grievances in writing, so that south-Sudanese including the Federal government can see the injustice done to your counties by the governor, Taban. Mr. governor, I'm sorry to hear the very people that helped you defeat Angelina Teny, in a hotly contested governorship, to be now suffering under your leadership. The formation of your government, if proved as was portrayed in the letter, then governor your 're inviting the tsunami that will have no sea wall to block it. Mr. governor, if the people of Unity state including the marginalized minority Dinka, are now complaining of poor service delivering, misrepresentation and unequal share of power, then what is your future, sir? I'm afraid that your political maturity and ability to govern, is insufficient to run the affairs of Unity state. It is just a matter of time, but the people of Unity state had enough of you and you know it very well. Akol Akol, USA
Politically-motivated wars of no benefit The on-going hostilities between the two states (Unity-Warrap) need a comprehensive solution to stop further bloodshed between sisterly neighbors in order to achieve everlasting peace and political stability. We are tried of killing each other without reason after we have attained our independence and this is a time we can dream of development instead of turning to each other. The attack carried out in Mayendit county by well equipped army suspected to have been sent from Warrap state is "politically motivated," which sent a clear signal that there is no government to take appropriate step to bring those warmonger soldiers to book in order to face trial of breaking Army law. If there is no clear step to be taken to stop cattle rustling between two states, it will become worse than anything. It is good to stop before it escalates like wild fire and government should take tough measures to curb violation across the region. Two Governors, Taban Deng Gai and Madam Nyandang Malek should come up with amicable mechanism to bring peace and co-existence without breathing fire to fuel conflict. However, it is worth mentioning that some polbticians in Central government put their dirty hands crippled by politics into this no-benefit conflict. Joseph Gatkuoth Kutei, 3rd year student, Juba Day Sec. School
GOSS vehicles embezzlement: To the new Auditor-General Chambers I'd like to advice you to focus on the government ASSETS which are misused by some elements within the ministries here in Juba. I have seen some vehicles which were bearing the plate numbers of GOSS, but now are turned as CE (Central Equatoria license). They're mostly driven by women of Big Bosses as these Bosses are now driving new V8's which are purchased by their Ministries. So my advice to this board is to reverse all the previous government vehicles purchased and return them to the ministries before giving them the new ones. These vehicles are kept at home for private uses. Such kind of people should be brought into accountability. George Lot Awongiro, RSS
Premature battle between the south Sudanese inside and south Sudanese outside. The question of who fought the war is not from mature people but from premature and greedy. Why Vice President Riak Machar shouldn't take credit for himself for Self-Determination for South Sudan problem Riak Machar is kidding himself at this point! Riak Machar issue for Self Determination for the South problem, was not originated by himself. Self Determination for the South Sudan was began by South Sudan Veterans Politicians who were the advocates of Self-Determination for the South since Sudan gained the Independence in 1956. Dr. John Garang De Mabior himself should be given credit for his highly skillful political ambition. Chief Abiko, USA
All should be involved on security I for one thing believe that insecurity in all areas of former Upper Nile Region has something in common, that is, it affects all peace loving people including those from other regions. For this reason, i would see to it that a permanent solution is to have all the stake holders to come together and address these issues in a spirit of peace and forgiveness. What is happening in Upper Nile state, Jonglei state, or Unity state could not be solved in isolation to each other. It may sound like nationalizing Upper Nile conflicts but unless the leaders of this region take collective efforts, finding a lasting peace would prove be to more challenging. Our people have suffered for so long. It is time to have the children of this region going school with no fear, it is time for traders to transport their goods so that innocent civilians could have access to them if they can afford, it is time for nurses to help those young mothers delivering babies or care for the elderly in a secure environment. And it is time to stop pointing fingers at each other for this will not stop the cycle of attacks and counter attacks.
Dividing a State is not whatsoever a solution because neither of the warring communities is fighting border demarcation. However, there are some grain of truth to that suggestion. This is my personal take on it and it does not in any way, shape or form represent any community. That grain of truth is that some geographical areas are so vast that controlling it effectively is a test to those who decided political constituencies or administrative units. There are some counties whose population double others and this ought to be re-visited should the government wants to put an end to these senseless conflicts. South Sudanese are humble and respectful of human lives. It's a shame hearings/readings these tribal conflicts destroying our hopes (children, women & elderly) for a prosperous nation of South Sudan. In the same token, it is not entertaining as well supporting politicians courting political posts through violent means. David Bang Teny, Canada
Let your God be not divisive With all due respect, Father Dsouza, when one intends to unite people, one should aim at blurring the dividing lines between polarized groups of people. Condemning the violence in South Sudan, especially in Jonglei state, should be condemned. However, divisive religious mambo jumbo such as PRO-LIFE vs. ANTI-LIFE serve nothing but further create unnecessary divisive self-righteousness between and among people. If you want your Christian god to bless South Sudan, then speak of something that doesn't impress division. ALL SOUTH SUDANESE value life! Kiur Garang, Canada
A rebuttal to Mr. Kong Tut’s great idea “All South Sudanese citizens should get paid monthly” How I wish that all South Sudanese are paid monthly. How I wish that all South Sudanese drive V8s. How I wish that all South Sudanese have access to managing oil money! My fear is that this could be the type of ideas that fall prey of the saying, “If all wishes were horses, beggars would ride”. This is simply an illusion that would only tease laughter. It doesn’t pragmatically stand the test of time.
Mr. Tut, you truly possess the passion and the humanity that is critically needed in our country right now. I just simply doubt if the idea you have perceived is realistic and testable. However, this is the best you think can be done to help alleviate the chronic suffering of our people, but I assure you, brother, Gaddafi had tried it in Libya and it has not worked. Instead, it has finally cost him dearly. No one, not even a single, has the vigor to shun South Sudanese abilities to toil and bring food to the table. Our people are hard working, non-envious and high achievers. All they need is specialized empowerment not monthly payment. The empowerment could be done through eradication of illiteracy, agricultural supplies, micro-finance loan, cooperative societies and more. Socialized spending, as you tend to suggest, has never and will never be the right way of beginning a nation building.
I am not ignorant of the fact that there are people in our own Government who have lost track of why we needed freedom as South Sudanese and have continued to loot public resources without thinking of why we paid the price of 2.5 million lives in order to get to where we are today. I assure you, and all, these groups will live to answer for themselves to those 2.5 million lives. History judges tougher than humans. This however, does not detour us from telling them of the disservice they are doing to our young nation. Majority of these are dead logs that are ready to be consumed by fire of aging. Let’s keep the faith and move on with plans for a capitalistic economy. This is the surest way we can build a nation we can all be proud of. It’s a matter of time and things will be fine. God save South Sudan Dr. Ambago, I was so glad to read such a PRO-LIFE article, in the midst of such a lot of ANTI-LIFE violence in Jonglei. How sad to see such evil going just uncontrolled. I am a Catholic missionary from India. And I pray that God saves South Sudan from such evil. God Bless South Sudan. Fr. Savio Dsouza, India
Muslim representation not a conspiracy It beats reasoning how less than a handful of people representing Islamist parties at the National Constitutional Review Commission will influence the process. I guess their inclusion is not a conspiracy to introduce Sharia or reverse South Sudan's independence. Like any group present and active in South Sudan, though tiny, their representation is not bad. This will shut the door in front of any future claim that Muslims are not represented in this crucial exercise. I guess Ambago's party missed out. I believe it is because this party exists only in name. Alesio Clement, Kenya
No political will on Jonglei crises The Jonglei file has become a very threatening issue which really demands a very urgent and hast solution. But to my surprise, there's a deathly silence from Juba and whatever comes from there is always on individual base. It never happens that the council of ministers or the parliament stage a very special session to see into the problems that keep on repeating itself in jonglei. Does it mean that they are underestimating it or what is happening in jonglei is been manufactured in Juba? I know that some of you will claim to hang on the recent visit of Dr Riek Machar or the recent deployment of insignificant number of the policemen as gesture of government's presence and concern. But we need to remember that, many scenarios followed these government initiatives such as the previous attack by the Nuer white armies after the departure of the VP from the State and lastly the payback by the Murle tribe despite the recent deployment of the policemen. So what is needed is a political will from Juba to find a pragmatic solution to this file and to expose those political thugs in Juba who are creating such kind of crisis for their political scores. Originality Should Take Precedence – Bentiu should be the Name: The inhabitants of the so-called “Unity State” have always been known as JiBentiu (This means people of Bentiu). Even though Bentiu is the Capital city of the state, it basically describes the whole region of Western Upper Nile including our brothers (Dinka) whom we love dearly, are also describes as JiBentiu. This name has been there for God knows how long. I would say since the creation of the inhabitants.
For that reason, I would think “Bentiu” being the descriptive name for the people who live in this region would be the proper name of this state. Using English names to describe ourselves do not make any sense at all; it would mean forgetting where we come from and become westerners. Bentiu is known over the South Sudan as the proper name that describes the inhabitants of the said people regardless of where they come from. So as long as you live in Bentiu, you are person of Bentiu and you should call yourself (Ran Bentiu or Bentuian).
Furthermore, there has never been any quarrel over the name before our brothers in the West colonized us. People of Bentiu (Both Nuer and Dinka) have lived peacefully in this region since time immoral. The name was there and these new names were just coined up for personal egoistical sentiment. Western Upper Nile (WUN) was coined up by some person whom none of us knows; probably a Westerner from British. Unity State was probably coined up by Jallaba as a duping means for them to rob southerners out of their land, just like they did to Abyei. I never heard anyone saying people of Liech and it never describes us whatsoever. This is a narcissistic name brought up by Dr. Riek Machar to satisfy his ego. Indeed, neither of these names is bad. But I do not prefer the originality. The original name of this state is Bentiu and this name should be given the preference over these recent made up names. GatCharwearbol, USA
'Western Upper Nile' the best name Mr. Gatkuoth, your observation over the name "Unity State" makes perfect sense. Thanks for bringing it up. Just as concerned as you are, I have been deeply troubled by the irresponsible dubbing of our Marvelous state as area of "Unity". After gaining independence, I think it is the right time for the citizens of the State to begin search of a name that would represent their cultures, traditions and aspirations. A name that they will all be proud of. The name Unity should have died right after independence. To the question of what the name (in search) must represent, you are correct to mention that the new name must be free from any ego, be it clear stated or implies. In this case, your suggestion of "Western Upper Nile" got my favor. All the other names that you have suggested are also fine but just to avoid any other stake of interest, a geographical name would do us peace of mine. Otherwise you have raised a critical issue. Thanks. Agoilek De' Deng, RSS
No utopian Nuer state in UnityI like to appreciate brother Mr. Gatkuoth Kedok De -Lew on his article in which he proposed changing Unity State name to either Western Upper Nile State or Liech. Mr. De-Lew, your writing worth commenting especially amongst the natives of Unity State. Though your article was purely on oil and lastly touched part of the name of state did give your readers some ambiguity because you had conflated the issue of oil and the name of state to derive heading of your writing. The sequence is oxymoron to us.
To quote your statement, description like homogenous western Nuer to be Unity state to me falls short of the fact of demographic realities of Unity State. Mr. De-Lew Unity state is not a homogenous state but heterogeneous state because it is inhabited by two nationalities of Nuer as a majority and Dinka as a minority. Mr. De-Lew having that in mind, I doubt whether Liech can still be a preferred name. A name like Liech was crafted immediately after the 1997 Khartoum Peace Pact. Nuer traditional names like Liech, Phuou, Bie and Latjor came to be in use especially naming states in the greater Upper Nile. Jonglei was split into Phuou and Bie while Upper Nile state became Latjor and Unity state subsequently Liech.
The application of such names to Dr. Riek Machar was just tantamount to formation of utopian Nuer state without other nationalities. Riek had deceived himself and began viewing Upper Nile as Nuer Dynasty. The inherent application of Nuer being a majority cannot justify the usage of Liech in naming a heterogeneous entity. I practically know what Liech is both literally and in deeper meaning. Names like Western Nuer and Liech technically isolate other nationalities in the state with Nuer unless Nuer wants to settle for a homogenous state like you put it.
Mr. Lew, it is always good to be conscious of national compositions whenever putting things on paper so as not to be seen as informatively naive or even bias for that matter. What we put on paper ends up in national archive, hence deserves national outlook. Chaos in Jonglei are brought about by tribal chauvinism, jingoism and parochialism. Atok Dan, RSS
Build the pipeline to Lamu, but not the Refinery As we go through this difficult time of oil field shut down,. the Refinery should be built inside RSS and not in Kenya because you never know what the future might hold in the wake of political uncertainties in those countries in the future. Southerners must be first employed As a South Sudanese citizen, I would like to add a few comments regarding the review of our constitution. No any foreign NGOS should hire the foreigner into executive position except a south Sudanese, if they want to do business on our soil. Any foreign company must hire nationals first before starting to operate and must abide by the laws. We don't want foreigners to rob our resources. positions such as human resources, assistant manager must be from the national not foreigners at all. In this way will pave the way for our people to get jobs and enjoy the fruits of his/her country. Samuel Wani A. Bringa, USA
Politics of gossiping in Fangak County led to arrestments and mistreatments. What is happening right now in Fangak County can't be termed as politics but it is simply a gossiping amongst those who are close friends to commissioner and those Villagers who don't even know how to write their names leave alone how to play politics in this developing world. Therefore as a concerned citizen in Fangak County, I would like to advice my fellow educated youth in Fangak County not to involve in such criminal acts. Let us not allow those semi-politicians of our County to divide us through their political interests. Those poorly educated politicians need to know that Fangak County is not a breeding ground for crimes. Hence I would like to appeal to the Commissioner of Fangak to release those detainees from police custody including those who have been detained in the SPLA military barracks, those people who have been detained Mr. Commissioner are innocent, they were just misled by those poorly educated politicians who don't want your re-appointment. They failed to prevent your re-appointment that is why they were trying to look for another means of removing you from the commissionership of Fangak County. Mr. Commissioner, just be confident and faithful to your people. We the intellectuals and educated of Fangak are behind you. We will stand by you until the end of your leadership in our County. Don't let those dirty politicians come closer to you because their intention is to undermine the people's confidence in your government. Just be big-headed person and work for the common interest for all people of Fangak regardless of which clan they come from. Wal Wiyieng, Economics Student at the University of Bahr el Ghazal.
All of South fought the liberation war What you wrote (Battle between South Sudanese inside and outside....) was true, but I believe those ideas were old and is now changing. It is normal however, for those who fought rebel wars to think that way because nobody's telling them other side of the story and roles that Southern Sudanese outside of the country played towards the liberation of the country. Former rebels are now starting to understanding that Southern Sudanese outside of the country fought at least 50% of the war. Media which is known as the most effective weapon was applied by the outside Southern Sudanese. They protest from time to time all over the world which exposed our enemies to the international world. One example was been the southern Sudanese people in Canada protested for three consecutive years against Talisman Oil company that eventually led to her pull out of Sudan. Many people even contributed money, clothes and medications. People all fought the war in one way or another. People in the countryside contributed flour, chicken, bafora, goats, etc... and even those who went to schools are the best fighters of our war. All people should know that guns alone can never achieve the needed results. Sagin Bali, Canada
The Republic of South Sudan Constitution should reflect on what the war promised us and what the peace had brought us.
Hence, the constitution of the country is the law of the land and must be delegated to the protection of the citizens of that nation and there is no need for micro-managing as the previous Transitional Constitution was.
The Republic of South Sudan upcoming Constitution should be a test of the democracy in making: Our leaders should work with each other to deliver us a genuine constitution that should enshrine all the qualities of what good democratic system is all about. In reality we do know that democracy is not the best system in the world but it works, it had been existing since it was invented by the Romans and it continues to spread at the rate of the speeding bullet (an Arab Spring could be attributed to that). But it depends on who is implementing it or enforcing it, perhaps on who and why? The system of democracy comes with different flaws in which some maybe bad or good. For instance, equality and freedom are the best characteristics of the democracy and many successful revolutions around the world were triggered by the people’s demand for freedom and equality from their oppressors and Republic of South Sudan wasn’t an exception. The people of South Sudan had been longing for the democratic system since 1955, before the independence of Sudan from Anglo-Egyptian condominium. Finally, our struggle for more than five decades had paid off on July 9, 2011. And as an American Ambassador to the United Nations, Ambassador Susan Rice, told millions of the South Sudanese and their friends during the Proclamation of the independence of the Republic of South Sudan that “this achievement wasn’t a gift from anyone, but it is something you fought for and you earned it”. Yes, we did. Millions lives had been lost as a results of the conflict and therefore no regret for that, because it was something many of the South Sudanese were aware of from the beginning of the war. The people South Sudan had been sporting the war for number of years since 1955. So we considered those losses as collateral damages. But as the war ended our people deserved security and better services and we shouldn’t go wrong on providing those to each and every community in the country. We do know that the war on corruption had always been a daily music to our ears usually sang by our top leaders on the pretext that they will not tolerate the corruption, something everyone agrees with but there still no high profile cases that had been prosecuted or brought to the light yet. Something seems to be very scary and people of the South Sudan are losing hope on those promises. Now for our leaders to guarantee to the people of south Sudan that the war on corruption will be done away with or dealt with accordingly. The right chance is now, especially when drafting, writing, or reviewing the constitution. Now it is the time to include in the constitution those articles that will protect the wealth of the country from being looted by few individuals. If one could remember the South Sudan referendum results for secession which was almost 100% for separation then one should know that our people were fed up with union with North Sudan and such overwhelming vote should be greeted by our south Sudanese leaders with pride. Thus this constitution of the Republic of South Sudan should be the ultimate hope for all citizens which will protect their basis and fundament rights.

Rule of law in Fangak county It is incumbent upon me as a citizen of the Fangak county to comment on the political situation which is now dominating every thing in the county. In the first place I would like to congratulate the Fangak Youth Union's leadership for its press release which I have just read on this esteemed website (the southsudannation.com) and it is also in my interest to tell the said leadership that your condemnation was (is) on neutral ground and complying with rule of law. Not only the author but everybody appreciated your words, so you can go ahead. Yes, Mr Commissioner neither I nor any body else in the county can support the criminal acts that are against the law, but if there is any civilian who's suspected or reported to has a connection to any certain crimes committed, that person has to be taken to civil court (police custody) and defend himself/herself. This is what everybody wants you to do, My dear Commissioner, nothing more nothing less. I have also heard that you dispatched the CID personnel to the Upper Nile state capital Malakal, in order to bring back the evading suspects to the county and what I only expect is a fair trial should the CID find this suspect because injustice sometimes causes a state of anarchy. Significantly, the ordinary people of Fangak county should understand the current politics of South Sudan that it is up to the state or national government to direct and appoint Mr. X or Y to be a commissioner of a the certain county either once or twice. I mean to say let's work hand in hand with our commissioner because he is a good leader. Lastly, I once more recommend to the Commissioner that all civilians who are now under the SPLA detention must be back to the civil court. Bol Tut, RSS
Mr. Elhag Paul, give us a break You will never lure anyone so to proselytize him or her into your tribal orientation of 'this people or tribe, against that or this tribe or people'. Some of us have no tribal bones, and you can attest it when we hit left and right to any lunatic who gaffes about anything that looks otherwise. I know you; please grow up and let's all put our hands on how to build this nation in our individual way, instead of tearing it by tribal overtones and rhetoric. Isaiah Abraham-Juba
Congratulation to GOSS. I would like to thank the Government of South Sudan on the decision they had just taken last week, it shows commitment to serve the south Sudanese, but I partially blame the GoSS for having delayed to act on this matter since 2005. Otherwise, Arabs have already taken more than enough, rumor has it that they have an illegal pipeline apart from the known one, meaning they are storing equal amount of oil in their Northern reserves (a daylight stealing). But this move will salvage the the situation. Thanks to GoSS , you have woken up at last. Bol, RSS
Aweil North county commissioner We heard the rumors that Northern Bahr- El Ghazal State Governor has gone to Juba to be sworn in before President of the republic of South Sudan to be come full governor and after that he will go on with the process of making new reshuffling on his State government by appointing new Ministers and commissioners of the counties. Therefore, this time we don't want our governor to appoint the commissioner of Aweil North without involving the local community in nomination of new commissioner for Aweil North County, because selecting someone without knowledge of the concern community may some time caused demoralization and hopelessness to the community on the existing government. And in the actual sense, it may appear as if the government is not for the local community since there was no consultation being made to them during the new establishment/ reshuffling in the state government. In South Sudan the government is now facing so many challenges in all the sources where the developmental programs are supposedly to come from and the issue is, the government used to give the positions to unqualified people to waste most of their time in the office without exerting any efforts to deliver the basic services to the poorer people. Private universities like beer bars Dear Editor, allow me to put forward a point of concern about the private institutions operating in South Sudan which are becoming like bars and drinking places. I appeal to the Minister of Higher Education to access the condition of those private institutions to allow only those who met the requirements of higher institutions, otherwise we will only be educating in those schools and at the end graduating with valueless diplomas, degrees , masters.... etc. Ohisa William, RSS
Good dreams about South Sudan Thanks Mr. Abraham, for your well articulated article on the current constitutional review going on in Juba. You have well suggested that you would want to see a Moru Commissioner in Bor, Pibor and so on and that a Dinka a Minister in EES for instance. These are good dreams but to my understanding the State Ministers are not hand picked like the constitutional review committee. They contest in their constituencies, pass the elections then nominated to be ministers in those very states where they contested. Or are you also suggesting that a Dinka or Shulluk should be allowed to contest in any constituencies other than their own? George Wani lo Igale, RSS
Land lease should be new policy I was concerned when I read an article about the scramble for land by foreigners. Zimbabwe will repeat itself in South Sudan according to an author. Junubin (Southerners) should be educated right from their homes about the motives of these foreign men. From what I know, Land is gold. You have a choice, but how many people can think straight when they are pampered with the kind of money they have not seen in 60 years? I call this “the now factor” due to shortsightedness. A visionary will calculate the dues of this in 10 years. Unfortunately, not many think alike. Land for lease should be the new policy as a private owner or organisation can repossess it. Unfortunately, those who sold their land will regret their stupidity when left with nothing to gather. The notion of “South Sudanese gypsies” would someday become a reality. Modern colonialist is at its best operation when you don’t have a place to call your own. Bosco Datta, RSS
Disarming Murle first is the best solution. But that should also include, settling them and creating farms for them so that they have no food problem, would help a lot.The internatinal community who are trying to help in this peace creating initiative could come in and finance these projects such as producing food crops and cattle raising. Out of reality "Fortunately, our people have a caring government and here it has presented an opportunity for all. This is a chance we must all seize. Politics in South Sudan is personal interest rather than public guide I have always been passionate about the separation of my nation South Sudan and more recently I get really disappointed of what is happening in the current time among communities. I feel that to understand what is happening in the present requires an understanding of what has happened in the past. From a young age I read books on the history of Sudan outside of what I was studying at school. My fascination with the past developed further. Many politically based people are always thinking of individual interest here in South Sudan rather than having public option which can help civilians in development. I enjoy becoming involved in debates of politics, but if I think of what’s going on here and recalling the war in the past then I get really ashamed of the ongoing politics. Solomon Gaiayor, Kigali, Rwanda
Parliament must debate oil-issue President Kiir, people of South Sudan are getting tired of seeing their government making one mistake after another. Oil is the central nerve of the country's economy at the moment; therefore anything having to do with that sector should be deliberated upon in the people's assembly before making any decision. Mr. president should ceased from running the country as though he is running his own business. Let the government get back to the negotiating table with Khartoum. Let us be realistic, South Sudan cannot afford to go on without the oil money at the moment. Peter Uku, Canada
Is South really paying transit fees? Dear editor, may you allow me a space in your website to place my opinion on this new controversial issue which is now dominating the political arena of the two Sudans. Some days back, I was just watching BBC Arabic, so there was a political analyst who happened to affirm that GOSS was really paying for the transit fee but GOS was denying this reality.
I'm not going to illustrate more on this GOSS decision (shut down the oil production country wide), because am in favor of that decision and I wish that the rest of the citizens to back our government for that. But am going to invite my fellow southern Sudanese to be more critical in following the current crisis. This is a golden chance for us to examine the intentions and nature of our political parties, some of them pretending to be more nationalist than others but in reality they are not. They are been used as machines to cater for the interest of the ex-colonial power (Jalaba), some of them are now panicking and beating around the bush to justify and defend the interest of their master. I think this crisis will expose many hidden stories and people. Pitya lo Tongun, RSS
Removal of Kuol Manyang from Jonglei state governorship is the only solution to the senseless enter-tribal conflicts in Jonglei state. Since 2005 when the GoSS became the only legitimate government in the whole of Southern Sudan there has no any good mechanism that have been used to solve the inter-tribal fighting in South Sudan particularly in Jonglei state. There have been a counter inter-tribal fighting in Jonglei state before Kuol Manyang took over the leadership of the state but it did not reach to the extent of killing over 3000 on daily basis as is happening right now. The leadership of governor Manyang in Jonglei state brought nothing good for the people of Jonglei state but it brought only destruction of people's properties and endless inter-tribal conflicts in the state. Therefore, as a concerned citizen in the state I appeal to the government of the republic of South Sudan to consider the following recommendations if it wants to solve the chronic inter-communal fighting in Jonglei state. 1- Dismissal of Kuol Manyang from the leadership of the state. 2- The government of the republic should appoint one of its generals in the SPLA to runs the affairs of the state till calm returns to the state. 3- The government should carry-out simultaneously disarmament on all tribes through the state without any favor to a certain tribe in the state. 4- lastly and more importantly, the government of the republic should split Jonglei state into two states because Jonglei state has got more population than any state in the republic of South Sudan and it is also the biggest state. Wal Winyieng, a student of Economics at the University of Bahr el Ghazal
Go back to negotiations table President Kiir and his cabinet should not shutdown the oil productions without knowing what he will feed on and his corrupt ministers. Since 9 July 2011 when Sudan separated into two sovereign nations, the two ruling parties NCP in the republic of Sudan and SPLM in the republic of South Sudan have failed to agree on post-referendum issues in the oil transit fee. Therefore as a concerned citizen, I urged the president of the republic of South Sudan and his cabinet to go back for negotiations table with NCP government instead of closing down the oil production. Wal Wiyuieng, RSS
Pagan not legitimate chief negotiator On the post-independence outstanding issues being negotiated by Mr. Pagan Amum on the side of RSS, I wonder if he (Amum) has a legitimate right to represent RSS in any diplomatic negotiations with any country. Despite the fact that Pagan is a childish-minded person who doesn't know politics. SPLM failed to win the people's confidences because of his negative attitude. In retrospect, when Okiech was negotiating on the then Southern Govt's behalf as a so-called minister of peace and CPA implementation he achieved nothing. Now as a result of no diplomatic person in the negotiations team, the Sudan has been stealing our oil for a long time until the Sudan itself had come out and openly tell the world that we (Sudanese) have stolen the South Sudanese's oil, a surprise news to GoSS which led its cabinet to order and shut down the oil production. A decision which may have a negative effect on our economy, I have overheard some officials saying World Bank and international community will render or give us any thing we shall be in need of and I have no objection should these developed communities do so. To me, Pagan has no political career and he was/is a wrong person in the right place (i e a chief negotiator for our Government). He is a secretary of Sudan people's party and he might know how to talk politics in Khartoum (New Sudan). Thus, if president Kiir want issues between the S and SS which are now stated before question mark to be negotiated successfully let him nominate another person among the South Sudanese officials who know how to negotiate in a political environment particularly the post-separation talks. Wrong Action for President Salva Kirr! President Kirr action is not good at all when shutting down oil in the whole South! You know, what he took is going to make things look BAD for the people! President Salva Kirr knew our people are still in the north. The deadline for the South Southerners in the north will be in April which is remaining a few months away! Southerners in the north are going to SUFFER MOST.Chief Abiko, USA
Malakal as capital for now Comrade Urbano Tipo, I do understand your argument, about all those crises going on in the state, everybody claims that this city belongs to us as a tribe, for example Malakal where many tribes live there? The another issue you mentioned is that is the mayor above the commissioner or commissioner is above the mayor? Definitely the commissioner is above the mayor because he is answerable to commissioner always not to governor. Third issue is that Malakal as a capital city of state has no good service like clean water, good infrastructure and electricity. So brother, that is not for Malakal alone, even in Juba as a capital city of the Republic there is no power. Finally, I do agree with you that capital city should be moved from Malakal to Nasir. But that one should not take place right now because we are just started. Malakal should be built, after that a capital city can be moved to anywhere like Nasir or any one of remote cities. Don't blame politicians of Jonglei When you look carefully at how attacks & retaliatory attacks occurred, it surely is baseless to blame politicians. Jonglei state has the largest number of police in the South yet it's the most insecure place in South Sudan. Where are those policemen deployed? Are they from only one tribe? There are no simple answers to these questions as this involves trading off values & beliefs. Nevertheless, Murle people say that the police is dominated by only Dinka Bor & Nuers. Another question is who is benefitting from this confusion? Of course, those who are fighting are the losers. When will this barbaric conflict stop & who will stop it? However, both sides, Lou & Murle, will one day get tired of fighting & they will accept anybody's mediation even if it's a woman. Pachor Adek Ameth, Sudan
WHO KILLED DR. JOHN GARANG?; Dear Isaiah Abraham, in African tradition, the talk about the dead of a leader like Dr.John Garang will never end. The end comes only when the truth and circumstances that rounded the death are excavated. It has become now clear in the minds of many southern Sudanese if not all; that Dr. John Garang De Mabior was murdered. Some of our leaders know the truth but they are afraid to say it because of their own lives. The Lioness once said that, "her husband was killed," but who exactly killed him remained a mystery. Could someone unlock this mystery so that southern Sudanese have a closure? There has been so many theories about the death of John Garang. We have been told lies and we are also made to believe in those lies. Few weeks ago, the renegade General George Athor was killed. The nation was told that Athor died in a gun battle at Morobo in Central Equatoria. Other reports says that, the General was actually killed in Kampala then ferried to the boarder. Don't you think this theory sounds similar to that of Dr. John Garang? We are afraid that some clever people are killing our leaders, and no answer is given. Until the truth about the death of our leaders (even if they were bad) is revealed, we shall continue to be hunted by their spirits because our conscience will never rest. The Bible said "the truth will set us free." Oyet Lokilachong, USA
What a shame in Jonglei? Dear editor, the problem of Jonglei state to many may remain as a mystery but is now becoming clear day after day that it is a politically motivated tribalism. Right to my argument, how can a group of over 5000 armed men move from particular county, payam, bomas without the knowledge of the county commissioner, payam administrator, boma chiefs and local authorities? With all the numbers of the ministers Jonglei state is having at the national level, what a shame? Emmanuel Sadiq, RSS
STEPS TO BE TAKEN TO QUELL WAR IN JONGLEI: It is saddening to hear that South Sudanese who fought for the right of freedom are killing themselves in an era of development. To me the root causes of this war are tangible and could be attributed to marginalization and poverty. As a citizen of this country, I have a feeling that if the followings are taken care of then the situation can change:
1- Murle was the marginalized of the marginalized and they have taken guns as means of their livelihood. Disarming Murle without introduction of other means is a nightmare. I suggest to whom it may be in a position to intervene in Pibor by providing enough foods, open more schools, open more health facilities and introduce Agricultural projects and begin disarmament with effect. This may help because any body who may surrender his or her gun be given foods and supports such as tools, tractors to group for farming and etc.
2- Other communities of Luo Nuer and Bor Dinka are disarmed concurrently with Murle and create buffer zones.
3- All the MPs of the areas affected from national and state levels be sent to their constituencies to foster peace and reconciliations. John Garang Akot Bior, Juba
Well done brother Isaiah Abraham. Dr. Garang de Mabior's death is a painful death in our memories that will never be forgotten. I am so glad that you hit every point that we are suspicious of from day one till today. Thanks, Simon Wuor Gai, USA
Museveni suspect in Garang's death? It seemed though that the true helicopter in question could be different from what was actually in use for the Ugandan President. Did Entebbe give Capt. Peter a helicopter that is detonated? If yes, who did it? Needless to mention why was the statement on the exact feet of the helicopter different; the experts talked of 7000 while the exact flying feet was recorded at 500.4 feet, the true distance between the plane and the earth.
Hence, it appeared to me this death of our father of nation the president of Uganda Yoweri is well known of killing African leaders, has happened before to Rwandan president who held meeting in Uganda and he took off from contemporary airport, which is clear to me Yoweri is behind the death our father of the nation. Also, Yoweri is an America CIA fan in Africa, so our current president should be aware of the lion. Kiir Chol, Canada
Jonglei should emulate Eastern Equatoria Now, we cannot blame Murle an a whole. The authorities in Pibor county in local government, should have to be blamed for long time VIOLENCE; why, because they failed to deal well both cattle theft THIEVES and children abductors before the matter had gone up in scope! As we know for now, what took place between the villages in Jonglei State and people, is not good at all! We appeal to our people Murle, Dinka in Bor, Nuer, Anyuak and Shilluk to stop the CARNAGE at once! Let them leave the past aside and must live in peace like before! We have similar issue with Toposa people in Kapoeta against the Otuho people until today! But it has gone down eventually over time! Both communities Toposa tribe and Otuho tribe have stopped doing it for sometime in many years. The new generation have taken good advises from communities leaders to stop stealing people cattle around the villages. Chief Abiko, USA
Who owns the White Army? It is very strange to hear of an Army that does not belong to the nation doing what they want to do and ignoring the government. Removal of Governor Kuol Manyang juuk will not stop the killing now going on in Jonglei state if the the ownership of the so called white Army is not known and how they are financed and equipped militarily There should be only one Army the national Army of South Sudan SPLA (SSAF) period. Allowing a tribal Army to exist is a disaster the government must disarm all the tribes Army such as the white Army and others without which there there would be no peace .Cattle rustling among cattle herding communities must be stopped totally as it is the sole reason for all the attacks from one community to another.
Transform the cattle owners into cattle farmers if need be and tax the cattle owners heavily as their Animals are also destroying the environment ecologically. Fighting among ourselves only makes the world laugh at us. We fought to liberate ourselves from the north and we got what we said we were looking for what else are we fighting for and to liberate who from whom?. My people, stop killing one another, it is time for development that was missed for over 50 years. If you want change in Juba take the civilized way of doing it in a non-violent way. It worked in other countries and it can work in RSS too. The Law of Moses an eye for an eye is outdated we have to take a new approach to the law. Justin Chicago Opiny, Canada
Truth on Garang's death will be revealed Your argument regarding the death of our Hero of Heroes are the questions that are hanging on everybody's mind. But the fact is very clear here whom should we ask to answer those (9) nine questions which you had outlined. It is very disturbing and discomforting to see the picture of the man who fought toe and nail to free his people only to die in a very mysterious incident like that and the people kept quiet. To assure everyone on this incident we should just pray so that one day Almighty God will reveal the truth one day. There is no secret that will remain forever. Dut S, RSS
'Prophet' Ngundeng and Jonglei Wars: Was Ngundeng a recognized prophet of all Nuer clans from both Eastern and Western habitats of this human groups? Is Ngundeng recognized by all Nuer people today as a prophet with inherited spirit to sons and grandsons? If the answer to these questions is affirmative then Mr. Gai L. Ngundeng's call and persuasion for Nuer war on Murle is going to work, and should be taken with great concern as an un-negligible early warning intent for genocide. Perhaps, VP Dr. Riek Machar, Minister John Luk and others will heed to this declaration of war from the new Nuer prophet's heir. But if the answer is negative then we should dismiss his call as just a voice of anger and frustration about what is going on these days between the Lou-Nuer and Mule tribes in Jonglei state. Many Nuer people, especially their VIPs will not give a damn to this call for evil of war from a new prophet. Could someone provide me with answers to these two queries, please? Dr. James Okuk
Governors must resign: The governor of Jonglei Kuol Manyang must resign as a part of failure to managed the state, the same the bad dog of Northern Bhar el Ghazal state too. Thanks, Nhomachot Deng, Sudan
Nuer and Murle need to bury the hatchet Dear Chuei Beit, I don't think removing Kuol Manyang Juuk from his position as governor of Jonglei state is a solution to the problem. Kuol didn't arm Murle nor Lou-nuer. The question we should ask ourselves where these brand new Kalashnikov came from? This is what interior minister, director of police in South Sudan and SPLA military intelligence need to investigate. Jonglei State is a vast state whatever police Kuol Manyang Juuk has in Jonglei state can not put the situation under control. Based on my personal understanding, Kuol did the right thing to apprise Juba about the catastrophe that is going to happen in Murle land. That is why the president dispatched high level of delegation led by Vice President Dr Riak Machar. Nobody was expecting that White army will turn down the request made by big shots like Dr Riak Machar and President Kiir. These are big people that whoever need peace in South Sudan should listen to them. If white army reject the request made by vice president, do you think they will listen to Kuol Manyang? I don't think so; the white-army wanted to pursue what they have prepared for.
In my opinion, we should not blame only politicians we should blame ourselves too. Cattle rustling among the communities in Jonglei state was existing long time ago. The communities in Jonglei state need the third party for peace and reconciliation. Murle and Lou-Nuer both communities need to bury the hatchet for sake of peace in Jonglei.
Regarding the issue of Northern Bhar-el-Ghazel state, I don't see a connection what is happening in Jonglei state with what is happening in Northern Bhar-el ghazel. In Jonglei state, Unity state, Lakes state, Eastern Equatoria state and Upper Nile state, civilians are killing themselves while in Northern Bhar-el Ghazel state, the government officials are fighting over the leadership without any life being lost. Three governors were elected officially, if you don't want them put your shirt on until next election 2015 to vote them out in a democratic manner. Samuel A Anei, Chicago, USA.
Stop blaming each other for crisis Comrade Flora Tong, you mentioned that the Republic of South Sudan is doing nothing. So what do you thing Government of South Sudan can do? We should know the responsibilities between the national government and state governments. And then you see who will be blamed in-case of any problem. But now we just throw the belam to national government always. Other people say that Governor Kuol Manyang should be removed so that the violence can stop. The issue of Jonglei is not a Kuol Manyang; that issue was there before Kuol Manyang became a governor. Nuer, Dinka, Mourle and others tribe use to fight over there always. But to me, the so-called divisions of states, counties, Payams and Bomas is the one cause all those problems. If I'm not mistaken in 70s, people of South Sudan were living as one people I remember our first commissioner in Rumbek was from Bor by name James Ajith Awol, by that time Rumbek was one county and I never seen any section fighting with another. But after these new divisions problems become too many. So let us think and find the solution and stop blaming each other because blaming will not solve the problem at all. Morthon Akol, RSS
Removal of Kuol Manyang to stop Jonglei genocide Dear All, the situation in South Sudan's Jonglei State is not far from genocide, as long as the fight is continuing in terms of revenging in which the government in Juba failed to reconcile the two sides in the conflict. The lost confidents among these two tribes can be brought back through a national healing in the terms of peaceful initiative starting from sons and daughters of the Jonglei state. The urgent solution to this problem is the removal of Lt. General Kuol Manyang Juuk who is enjoying the blood of the innocent people dying in Jonglei he should have resigned if there were to be the democratic existence. President Kiir will never be free as long as his system of government is led by some State Governors, Unity, Jonglei and Northern Bahr El Ghazal States, whom are wrong people in the world and pitted to face justice even though the SOUTH SUDAN is not yet a member of the ICC. You're all aware that 5 US Military officers were sent by the White House to deal with this corrupt government in Juba. I hope things may change in the nearer future. Chuei Beit Deng, RSS
Our Country is bleeding. The newly African independent country which is well know of its diversity, pride and wealth is now blooding. The country is blooding because of lack of vision and poor management of old fork. This is clear to the people of South Sudan that there is something wrong with our beloved country; only the unborn child and dead person would think that our country is not blooding. With daily attract from the North, Tribal conflicts, corruptions, lack of knowledge, and neglect. If John Garang knew it would this way, I don't think he would have wasted his time to fight for of South Sudan. Deng Monyarrep, USA
Primary education for all The Republic of South Sudan has a lot of things to do and one of them is about primary education for all. This will erase that general ignorance created by lack of basic education. Our case is that it's affecting the internal raids within Jonglei State. The problem has been there probably longer but on a lesser scale. Please let us have quick programs on education for all. Villages should be given some help by local administrators for classes. We all appreciate your own efforts of fighting and fighting for your dear independence. No more bloodshed...we Africans are not cursed... but those who ruled did not bother in educating us and that is why we are suffering. Mukundi Peter, Sweden
OPEN LETTER TO Minister of Petroleum; Why employ Dinka only? Hon. STEPHEN. Dear Sir, I would be very grateful if you could stop the corruption which is done by your tribesmen in Petrodar operating company. Starting from July 2011, some boys were sent to PDOC Khartoum office for employment, and these days the history is repeating itself. Why only one tribe is being employed? Do you want us to SHADE our FOREHEADS, so that we can be employed? When one asks why only Dinka are employed, the answer from the Human Resource Manager is :"these people brought letters from the Minister." People are talking of corruption, this is the worst corruption more than the embezzlement of money. To be a perfect Minister, please, equalize the employment among the Ten States, or advice our Company's Vice president to stop such kinds of acts if not intended by you. George Lot Awongiro, RSS
Unlicensed Arms in Hands of Tribes of Jonglei: A call for existence of three armies (White Army that belongs to Nuer and Dinka tribes, SPLA that belongs to the ruling party in Juba and UN forces) in Jonglei state is a tricky and complicating game. Is there another Somalization we have to wait for any more? If Murle is disarmed by the three armies how sure can Lou-Nuer and Bor Dinka White army be trusted that they will not steal Murle cattle, women and children by force too since this minority tribe will be left without arms or government to protect them? If the justification argument is that Lou-Nuer and Bor-Dinka tribal army should be allowed to disarm Murle by force because SPLA and UN failed to disarm them will not the same argument be put forward by Murle too that they should be allowed to keep their arms in order to protect themselves against the duo White Army? An irony indeed! For me, I will rather say disarm all tribes or allow all of them to keep their arms with the consequences of doing so as we have been witnessing: mass murders and genocide intent. Disarming all the tribes will be the lesser evil so that the government becomes the only custodian of arms in Jonglei and other parts of South Sudan. Licensed arms should be under control of the government. Licensed arms should be allowed to individuals only with strict conditions and not to ethnic communities. A tribal army should not be allowed by GoSS to have licensed arms (whether tacit or expressed) as demonstrated by the campaigners of Nuer Youth in Diaspora. The arms being carried by tribal armies in Jonglei should be declared illegal and criminal otherwise the GoSS should declare itself as a failed government rather than only declaring a state of disaster in Jonglei State. If armed tribes are allowed to govern the government then we should not doubt that South Sudan will be declared by the International Community as another Rwanda soon with ICC becoming very happy to have a nice job to do. Dr. James Okuk, Juba.
Constitution must be inclusive I would like to say that the constitution review commission (CRC) needs to be inclusive because this constitution is going to be the permanent one, moreover military and politics should be separate in the constitution as well as the terms in the presidency also need to be limited like that of USA if we want our country's stability. So I hope our president Kiir and his vice Dr Riek are going to make all this a success. Bol Tut, RSS
Our leaders like toothless dogs Dear editor, please allow me to post something regarding the unreasonable and shameful fights that keep on repeating itself in Jonglei state between Lou Nuer and Murle tribes while the United Nations mission is only acting as a reporting party and the government of south Sudan is just acting like a toothless dog or a castrated goat. Where on earth could some one see a government watching his own people killing themselves in this great number like in Jonglei? The two tribes ( lou nuer and murle), are they stronger than the federal ministry of interior?
Such above questions sometimes let me to conclude that what is happening in jonglei is just manufactured in Juba to resolve some political scores, between the big belly guys in Juba. These guys are really very lucky that the tribal mentality of the two tribes help them to cover this dirty game in such places like Jonglei, Lakes state and Unity states. Today, I read an article on sudantribune, reporting about an incident in Rumbek, where a member of parliament decided to attacked his in-law victimizing about four people. Such scenarios sometimes made me to conclude that the current southern leadership is just the product of accident plus chance that delivered to us a group of self opportunists leaders who have no any national program or peoples interest in their leadership agenda.
There is something always frightening me about the leadership style in our leaders, the first one is a general sentiment that our country is been ruled from outside, especially Kenya and Uganda. These two countries are really very active in our domestic politics, they are ready to protect their interest and the interest of those thugs in Juba, in many occasions these guys get involved into our affairs. All of us know that, a house that is governed from outside or there is external intervention will not last long. I hope that our leaders may come to their senses and begin to work for the unity of our people and disown their personal interest or tribal interest. In the end of the day, we are just asking God to change their hearts and minds or to free us from them and reward us with God fearing leaders. Pitya lo Tongun, RSS
Forming a Ngok-Padang White Army Thank you Gieth C. Deng and Gieth A. Dauson. I am from Khorflus, and I know both of you are my brothers next to my Khorflus county. I believe James Puot Ruot is doing job of recruitment by outreaching his message to Padang-Ngok Jieng. I am so mad when the SPLA killed my Khorflus civilians in the church during the Christmas Eve and arrested and detained the women and men that were mourning at the George Athor's burial ground. Our women were beaten and men tied. It is stupid and naive if any Padang from this community of Khorflus and neighboring Padang counties would continue to beg for the neutrality and bootlicking the SPLA and Juba for now. Padang-Ngok should rise up like Greater Nuer White Army in Eastern and Central Nuer had formed to defend themselves from their enemies including the Juba regime that killed my Khorflus people on Christmas Eve. There is going to be Ngok-Padang White Army too for popular defense against the SPLA of Kuol Manyang and Kiir Miyardit that had been raping our women, and massacring our civilians in cold blood. It is stupid for any Padang to still indulge their trust in the government that kill our people for no good reason. Gieth C. Deng, you need to form Padang unity like Greater Nuer there in your world and we will also do it here in Sudan and Australia. Gieth A. Dauson should disconnect himself from Gier Chuang and his supporters. Chol Ayom, RSS.
From where did so-called Nuer White Army get the weapons? And who provided them? And who financed them? Today, although the government in the north in Khartoum abnegated the responsibility as a political game between north government and south government, I truly believe in my heart first and foremost, that Nuer White Army and their Dinka counterpart in Bor did get military assistance from the Sudan government based in Khartoum especially the rebels belonging to the late Athor Deng. Nuer White Army do not have resources to procure weapons, they've now endangered the security in the whole South. What they have shown in Murle CAMPAIGN will make all tribes in the South to acquire weapons for self defense. Both tribes Nuer and Murle, must give up their guns to the government VOLUNTARILY without any disarmament force. This is for well being for the whole South. We do not like another Somalia to happen in the South, we need peace and harmony without living in ANARCHY! Chief Abilko, USA
3000 dead in Pibor misleading Report of Sudan Tribune's, Ngor Arol Garang, should stop exaggerating lies while reporting any events whether war or peace time. In his recent report on Lou-Nuer–Murle conflicts, I was shocked to read his report that 3, 000 Murle were killed by the Lou-Nuer. Reporting a figure like this is a complete naivety and abuse of his profession. Where on earth 3, 000 humans could be killed in two days by villagers that have the same power as their invaders? To my judgment, that number is misleading and there are not even thousands deaths, but hundreds. My message to Ngor is that; please report responsibly because people are reading your reports. Simon Riek Gatluak, Calgary, Alberta, Canada
Blame the president and all Hey, Mr. Kok, I have understood your feelings, but the real problem here is not solely a governor's problem as you are pointing your fingers to the governor. In addition, for what I think personally, it the failure of the government of the South Sudan leaderships. Why would the partial disarmament made to some peaceful communities by GOSS and not the entire South Sudan communities? Can you answer this, is there a single state left out of violence in South Sudan? I am sure every state has people who die as a result of politics or criminal behaviors. In South Sudan, there is a president who doesn't know what to do while his followers are looking upon him and they are not helping because they simply want president to be blamed for his failure. Well, followers and many politicians from different parties are the one causing problems because they are only looking for positions. Here is how I can prove that, there was a reason for many independent candidates that were running. And even Dr. Riek's wife wanted to be independent for unknown reason that was clear to some of us. President is being misled by some close relatives to change things and Salva himself doesn't have a clear understanding of his misguided actions. Therefore, I blamed Jonglei governor, Juuk, as part of the government of South Sudan and I believe that he is in a wrong position. Every action comes from Juba. Juuk doesn't have power to disarm any community in his state because he reports all situations to Juba and he has been ignored by Juba administration. Juuk was doing his work well as he was a top national leader, but he was demoted to where he got stuck now. I am not saying not to blame him as a leader, you should not exclude Kiir, Riek, Murle criminal behaviors, and Lam with others parties of the South Sudan or independent candidates. Kuch, William Makuach, USA
Do not selfishly sacrifice a few among Padang! My personality has constantly been attacked by number of individuals, some, for whatever reasons hide their identities. I need to make something clear to the person of Aluong Bul Deng in response to his recent outburst. Mr. Aluong never internalized the points I raised but only rushed to labeling me someone fishing in tribal waters to get rewarded, being well placed in the system and being mentored by Gier.
The key issues I raised in my response to Mr. Nuot of SSDM were that, this movement is not a Padang affair, and I still maintain this position. This movement was borne out of Jonglei State elections and evolved into South Sudan issue eventually. I have never heard any leaders of SSDM including the late calling for Padang people to join them in their capacity as Padang sons, unless they agree with their ideology, which is normal. I therefore considered Nuot’s mobilization strategy to be smearing the name of my community and I still maintain that. That said, I have not stopped any Padang who believes in SSDM ideology but they of course must join as individuals. That is what the meaning of being heroic is and that is why the late George did drag the community’s name into this. He only counted on those who agreed with the cause. Now what has changed? Gieth A. Dauson, RSS
Padang-Ngok needs to have political Agenda now and forward. To Chol D. Ayom, Nout Pout and Gieth Dau. Political will go and the community will remain behind. What I would say is all of us to cool ourselves down for the name of our community, think deep and wider and beyond. Anyone of us can represent our community, like other communities who write on the website. Everyone in a country has a portion right and wrong interest in the government and those who rebel. It is a long conflict; food, leadership are short but the tribes will be there forever. Conflict scar wounds may take many generations to go. We need to convince ourselves not to be in the wrong side than our Communities first.
The result of ours furthers being loyal to SPLA/M leads us to disadvantage across Upper Nile. Ngok Jieng sub- communities across Upper Nile fall Victim of Nuer and Arab Armies a long (Sobat River, Puluth, Atar, Run Deng and Padang mainland). Western Upper Nile Gok de Ruweeng (Abiei, Pariang, and Bienom) are victim communities due to loyal to SPLA/M or just being Jieng. These communities were the backbone of the SPLA/M since 1983 up to now. But within organization they there is no good input description for what they have done.
Padang–Ngok community need to come together and have a brainstorm for their future problem. We need to discuss our past, present, and future of our people. People do not know that the government is their main problem in Sudan. All Governments from South-North are increasing crime across the country. All dissatisfied people in Sudan should come together and discuss all their common interests and problems. The only thing I do not like is the Khartoum Regime still standing while we are killing each other in south. Khartoum Regime gets a chance due to lack of leadership in the south nowadays. Gieth C. Deng, Canada, Alberta
There will be an arms race in South Sudan Reading the press release by Nuer White Army, I could deduce another Military group parallel to SPLA has been formed again with the knowledge and blessing of RSS government. There is talk of disarmament and demobilization program in South Sudan. There will be an arms race in South Sudan. The other communities will follow suit to acquire arms for their own protection since SPLA will never give protection to all communities as others will become victims of oppression. Any communities that will be disarmed by force have to resist at any cost. Nuer White Army is a clear violation of status quo. Urbano Tipo, RSS
Who should be blamed for internal conflict in South Sudan? It seems as hard or simple question but a good answer is not to point the finger to any one. Justice for all is a key the system to bring dignity for South Sudanese Citizens. I see the GoSS has fragile system which you can approve it in its internal issues as you may refer it as insecurity. If South Sudan failed for 6 years to bring down the insecurity between the civilians, so what do you think the GoSS will achieve? If GoSS failed for moral issues that SPLA/M fought for for many years, so the asking is ours. And it means there will be no development at that point in South Sudan.
So the insecurity in Jonglei is supposed to be done long time ago, but lack of the GoSS for ignoring the threat of Murle to civilian people of Jonglei, it proved the GoSS weakness while Juba itself in the central of GoSS, there is no regulation to reduce alcohol and beer consumption. Beer consumption elevated the happiness of prostitute businesses, and HIV to spread from Juba all ro South Sudan without notice of population of South Sudan at present time. If Juba failed to regulate that minor issue as for example drinking, so what will make them to disarm the Murle? There is no reason. So I believe Lou Nuer went to bring their children back that Murles abducted because it was only solution for them to do. GoSS failed its test as voice of the people. And I warn all the citizen of all Jonglei to be alert for Murle because they don’t recognizing their mistake and they can come back any time to destroy you. So don’t relay on the GoSS security. GoSS is been for 6 years but they never disarmed Murles. Deng Manyok from US
