The day the southern Sudanese will never forget The death of Dr. John Garang caught everyone's attention including enemies and was tearful with us. Well, don't cry with us but just give us Independent south that it. If not, then the last resort you know!!.
The grief we have now because of our martyrs is not simple, however, it will be simple when we get it right to the whole world that we have a republic of southern Sudan as an independent state in Africa.
God will bless all your souls. I miss our dear brother Cdr. Wilson Kur Chol, one of the founders of the SPLM/A. Thanks, Mayiik Deng Kiir, North Carolina, USA

Poem  for Separation It's a matter of doing it for the sake of doing not to miss it. Separation is what we need. Even if many people claim that unity...unity, I have tethered unity with a leather strap. Let's make it not to regret later, by Sabaath  De Yacouba, Kenya

"Wise choice"

It's to let the lion go
Disunity, the solid chance
A miss and a cry
A miss and we go
Beyond the scorning hills

Choice is yours
Choice is in your hands
Choice is mine
I have a wise choice
I suppose you too

Cast votes of separation
It's time to shout it out aloud
My proposal without yours is useless

Crazy choice you make affects me
Crazy choice I make spoils you
Not there anymore

That den has a lion
It roars and you off
Grief will be mine
I have foreseen
Don't let me cry blood

What's happening? I am very confused about this article but I would like to know if SPLA is run by Dinka only. It is wrong for Government of Southern Sudanese if SPLA start of killing, torturing and raping women and girls.
I am a Dinka boy but I believe that all Sudanese are my people no matter what directions they're coming from, they're still Sudanese.
In the end, Kiir needs to pay attention to this problem because this is not the first time people mentioned this. What is the vision of Southern Sudanese? Delta Yankee, USA

Advice to Dr. Lam  Dr. Lam's anger is enrooted in power greediness for South Sudan top position and his fellow tribe elites higher position in the SPLM/GOSS.
He needs elderly advise both from his tribe and by his close friends to normalize his anger to stability so that he will be in line of the right direction of his common people of Southern Sudan before coming Jan 9th 2010. Jusdo Kimaki, USA

Land issues a growing concern: Sudan is the largest country in Africa. The greatest trouble in southern Sudan plainly emerged from land sales that is why we fought for years. Today after allowing SPLA/M rule in Juba, with evidence that parts of Juba city is been sold to foreigners especially Somalians. Are we sure this might not result to what happens in the past to the northern parts of this country? Each time of emerging land issues in Juba, some Dinka are behind. What could possibly be the reason for some Dinka to do this not in their ancestral land, but land which belongs to other tribes? Why some southern Sudanese are not allowed to own land in Dinka land? And how comes some Dinka are targeting land and women in the rest of southern Sudan? I think there are things terribly wrong in the perceptions of SPLA/M. If these are because the leadership of GoSS and majority ministers been from Dinka, what will southern Sudan look like if total southern Sudan becomes independent nation state? Dinka is not the only tribe in southern Sudan, burying identity of the rest of the people will amount to crisis if TOP SPLA/M officials continue to rally behind those Dinka known to be criminals. Alikutta James, Sudan

Great assurances, Dr. Riek. It is imperative we focus on the referendum and not some detractions as petty as an imaginary line on the land. As Southerners, we ought to focus on Referendum, Blue Nile and Nuba Mountain rights to decide their future. Or could that be the vision to secure permanent borders. J. Akok, South Sudan

The differences between our leaders What is going in the oil rich state of Southern Sudan……defection… from where to where? These are the same people that come and go. Our leaders never heard of 'measuring it ten times and cutting it only once”, all they believe in is measuring once and cutting it ten times but the NCP will teach us a lesson that we do not know.
There is no defection better than any defection, once you defect your names enter the list of Traitors but our current President Salvatore Kiir Mayardit was exempt from receiving such as a name; which led to the question of, does the means justify the end results or the end results justify the means? In 2004 after hearing rumors of his replacement as the 2nd man in the SPLA/M leadership, Kiir Mayardit fenced himself with all the enemies of the SPLA/M to defend his position militarily but nothing was done to threaten his well-being or that of his followers that includes Bona Malwal, Dominic Diem among others.
The Vice President of the unborn Republic of Southern Sudan, Dr. Riek Machar put it on the map politically to kick out the SPLM in Unity State with his wife Angelina Teny by bringing forth the idea of Independent Candidacy. Nothing was done or said in Juba the capital of South Sudan; including Mr. President Kiir Mayardit and his corrupted officials.
What is so alarming is when a well respected individual from one of the smallest tribes in Southern Sudan decided to have his voice heard, all these failed Advisers and narrow-minded Ministers will called him/ her all kind of names ranging from Traitor to whatever bad names you can think of. Can anybody tell me the differences between Kiir Mayardit and Lam Akol, Riek Machar and Bona Malwal Madut, Riak Gai Kok and Clement Wani Konga...whichever way you would like to put it? I will wait, just find the differences without basing your analyses on the tribal lines. Do not even try to convince me that individuals such as Kiir Mayardit have been in the party for so long; only perfect experience counts… one mistake will haunt your career for the rest of your life.
There are no more Southern Sudanese raised in the cave who will not carry a guilty and bloody hand so let us not only defend these cronies who failed Southern Sudan miserably but have everybody's voice be heard and give them the opportunity to exercise their abilities.
Leave Dr. Lam Akol alone, his differences with other Shilluk tribes mates should not be listened to and use against him. Leave the man alone…. He is not the enemy, our enemies are working day and night to fail us by any chances they get. George Thon, Schweinfurt, Germany

Uncle Dr.Justin Ambago Ramba This is very exciting article. I'm here to thank you for your standing and continuing support to the cause of our people. Dr. Ramba, this is the time for the elders and statesmen to speak out from their hearts and knowledge to young people about spelled myth into future independence of south Sudan.
I'm humbled by your wisdom and analysis. This is how we expect our elders to speak during this critical time. I believe your articles encourage many voters to stand firm for the separation rather than unity. Even those who may support uncle Toby Madut will see light through this analysis. Million of south Sudanese are dreaming for the new state in the Africa continent.
However, the south Sudan's opinion poll show that majority support the separation than unity, which means January 9 referendum vote, automatically, south Sudan's independence will be born if indeed, the referendum exercise is to take place in the good atmosphere, free and fair without intimidation and vote rigging. Bool Whan Kuich, USA

God Loves a Nation That Fears Him My dear people this is the time we MUST instill the fear of God in our hearts. I hate the so called -Tribalism , the reason is if we (the southerners) are Christians then we should have no place for any form of ungodliness. But let's embrace oneness, love and shun what is evil and after all our nation shall be established under the promises of the Almighty God , this is the time we need our people to experience the sweetness of their own land and therefore, let's bury the past (bitterness, hatred, butchering one another, etc). The Bible says that we should forget the former things for God is doing a new thing .Thank Southsudannation for this site. Deng Dut, Kenya

South Sudan National Anthem

Version One

Oh, South Sudan, the blessed land of ancestors, may the Almighty God showers your people with the spirit of love and unity.

Oh, South Sudan the blessed land of ancestors, may peace and stability be the order the day.

Oh, South Sudan, the blessed land of ancestors, may the Almighty God erase hatred and evil spirit among your children forever.

Oh, South Sudan, the blessed land of ancestors, may your children prosper and fill your surface in peace and stability forever.

Version Two

South Sudan, the land of ancestors
Peace, stability and prosperity shall be the dominant features

Blessed with all the natural resources,
Its soil shall be the source of happiness for generations

South Sudan, the land of ancestors
Shall prosper and shelter all its sons and daughters

South Sudan, the land of ancestors
Shall be the source of joy for all its residents

South Sudan, the land of ancestors
Shall continue to receive blessing from Almighty God the creator of living and none living things

Dr. Thuou Loi Cingoth, Sudan

Is the God of Sudan awake or is he's gone to sleep?
Under the Sun, there is nothing new but God or Nhialic in Thongmuonyjang and Mayual in Agaar always have mercy on people. I wonder when will God Mayual help us in Sudan, the rumors that are circulating in South-Sudan now are of vote for unity, if so will Nhialic or Mayual God help us or deem us to death again? Majok Aker Ayai Rumbek

Where are the peace dividends? So when will the marginalized south southerners like myself get the "peace dividends" or see any improvement in life since CPA?  Some of us are left out and no school, constructions, roads, or simple drill water has not reached my village.  So where do I stand on the Jan 2011 election? Whichever side starts constructing roads, hospital and schools and other livelihood amenities...ARABS lied to us, SPLM lying to us, GOSS (never seen much money and power before), so POOR people or south Sudanese are falling thru the cracks or holes.  You have to know someone in order to get things done.  I rather be a second class citizen in a FIRST WORLD COUNTRY.. People leave you alone especially if you just want is food, shelter, schools for children.  Healthcare is free and food stamps. Okeny, Sudan

Dr. Adwok, for how long will Dinka SPLA protect you? Dr. Peter Adwok Nyaba writes as if he is still in the TOM BROWN SCHOOL DAYS. He has to grow up and live like an intellectual. Among his Collo colleagues in SPLM /A he the most learned person and should lead them correctly. What is happening correctly in Collo Kingdom was not created by Dr. Lam. It is a general plan by Dinka and given to you and your colleagues in SPLM/A to execute. The civilian Collo population will blame you. I hope you are reading the writings of other Collo intellectuals. Should elections be repeated to-day, you and your colleagues in SPLM/A will never pass. You have become obstacle to our people and let us wait for how long will you sustain Dinka agenda in Collo land. Dinka SPLM will only rule in a United Sudan otherwise if Southerners vote for independence that will be different story. No ethnic group will accept to be marginalized. Dr. Peter Adwok should enjoy the position given to him on silver plate by Salva Kiir. For how long will the Dinka SPLA protect you? Urbano Tipo, Sudan

Why the SPLA didn't wipe the Shilluk in the past Dear Dr Okuk, I think you're painting a too bleak picture of Dr Peter Adwok Nyaba.
When I visited Yei during the war, I asked Oyay Deng Ajak, why the
SPLA did not destroy Lam Akol´s quisling forces in Chollo, his
homeland after all, he pointed out that there was an understanding between the Shilluk in the SPLM/A, that Chollo was too accessible and densely populated to wage a guerilla war, given the genocidal counterinsurgency tactics of the NIF/GOS and that Peter Adwok Nyaba was one, who had urged for calm there.
Oyay, as South Sudan's probably most gifted military man, probably knew
these facts simply from a glance at the map, but the fact remains that Dr Nyaba had stood for that decision.
In hindsight this rather humanitarian look seems to have been mistaken. A battalion of the SPLA should have been able to crush Lam Akol's (who is after all one of Sudan's most inept military leaders), as they use the battle vignette from his book in Bilpam as a lesson how not to fight) SPLA/United forces and put Lam´s head on a pike. The omission to do this, is now causing the SPLM and GOSS untold difficulties, as Lam now basks in the glory to have been the savior of Chollo and the SPLA has a dirty counterinsurgency campaign at hand, trying to collect the guns he has distributed on behalf of the  NCP.
Given the SPLA's brutal tactics, I doubt that the SPLM will have much
luck in free and fair elections, when Chollo is pacified.
Had the SPLA then, when it was easy, finished off Lam's quisling
militia, they would of course have been unable to hold on to Chollo in
the face of Riverines and Helicopter Gunships out of Malakal and Naath
Militias only too willing to do the Jallab's dirty work plus
Murahaleeni irregulars out for loot and rape. But the war crimes would
have been committed by the enemy, whom the liberators could not keep
at bay.
Of course the people would have suffered, like some of those northern
Dinka sections, who nearly got wiped out while their boys were
fighting in Equatoria. But then it would have given Chollo a chance to
have been a full part of the liberation struggle and who says Chollo
blood is redder than Dinka blood. Peter Adwok Nyaba erred on the side
of humanitarianism and should thus not be blamed too much, but he
erred.
You should keep his and Oyay´s role in sparing Chollo in mind and be grateful. Best wishes. Soenke Franzen, Germany

Top SPLM Leaders Playing Dirty Politics on Referendum: Dear Dr. Riek Machar, your stance on the timely conduct is commendable but do you know now that those trying to impede the referendum are some of the SPLM leaders themselves who're seriously moving and collaborating these days with the unionist Northern political forces? Did you ask yourself why Dr. Salva Kiir is becoming a political sweetheart of Molana Mohamed El-Mirghani, the communist Ibrahim  Nugud and  the Ansari Iman Saddiq El-Mahdi these days? The answer: because he (Dr. Kiir) fears that if the referendum is not postponed for five years or not done in favor of unity where he is broadcasted in the Sudan TV these days as a pre-voter for unity of the Sudan, Southerners (including you) will vote him out of power in Juba immediately after the declaration of the independence of South Sudan. Another answer: It seems that the NCP and Northern forces have assured him (Dr. Kiir) that they will protect his current de facto power and wealth if he agrees to postpone the referendum for more years because rigging it in favor of unity might cause chaos or UDI inside the SSLA. Mark my words and prepare for war if you want peaceful referendum that could lead to independence of South Sudan if you are courageous and capable to lead that struggle! Dr. James Okuk

Lam's return to SPLM I presume with all of my heart that Mr. Ayok entreat for Dr. Lam's return to the SPLM is genuine. Mr. Akol, don't ignore the voice of wisdom from that man, that Southerners need each other at this point in time. Your place is missing, sir! But it seems as if you are the one who rebounds a futile defense using the name Michael Deng. You put a lot of stuff, the very fine details we have been hearing you saying it aloud in public against the SPLM. Yes, you are misunderstood, but that doesn't make you turn away from your people; fight your space within the SPLM party. Long live Southern Sudanese unity! Name withheld on request

Corruption in Kiir's demagogic leadership It doesn't auger well to blame Dr Garang De Mabior as the co-creator of the corruption and tribalism as Mapuor Makorou put it. If we remember those days when the SPLA/SPLM were in the bush fighting Khartoum regime, we'd know that Dr John Garang did not play any game of corruption, tribalism nor nepotism.

Let's stop blaming Dr Garang, we all know the role he has played in Junub Sudan, he has liberated Junub from the bondage. If you can remember the time the Khartoum regime has vanquished the junub while the south were left with three towns, you'd know that Garang did not do what you are saying.

Under Kiir 's demagogic leadership that is the time we southerners have experienced some form of corruption. Kiir is like the late president of Uganda Idi Amin Dada, Kiir is a tyrant. Let us not blame them so much, because it's their time to rule and also he is faced with a lot of quagmire that are shaking him, his patience has also paid him. Let us wait for our time to come, we can make a better place in future. Let us anchor ourselves to make a better country after old men, let us joint together to fight against corruption and any form of evil in our country and God going to bless you all. Wal Agutwong, Kenya

True Love is real love for a life time. Love is a voluntary sexual activity between adult people. True love in its real sense will last and be a happy one and not a forced love through the barrel of the Gun as stipulated by George Ottomon that Dinka marry in Magwi county through Gunpoint.
This is unacceptable and can not continue in such a way. Soldiers are not above the law, the Gun they are carrying around is for the protection of the civilians and not to be used against them for personal benefit or gain. Forced married is a crime and should be treated as an adultery punishable by law. I do not understand why it is always the Dinkas that are involved in such a futile act. Justin Chicago Opiny, Canada

Nyaba profiteering from Lam's name The terms, legality of wars, liberations and freedom of nations, referenda of entities and insurgencies against the dominated powers have nothing to do with parties legitimacy or their unlawfulness as written by Dr. Nyaba calling his de facto cannibalistic party to ban the SPLM-DC party for the common interest of himself.
Dr Nyaba, if you are really politically well qualified and professional in performing the games of elites, what prevents you to bring up your creativity and ideas so that many people in the south or else what can they gain from your ways of criticizing Dr lam Akol?
What I had realized from some politicians such as Nyaba, who had built a huge tower in the ocean of poverty, can not get more money if he is not using name of Dr. LAM for his private gains in the self-contradictory party as SPLM/A. Mojwok Deng.

Response to a letter written by Abraham Gai titled "Greater Crimes committed by General George Athor Deng I'd like to tell my friend Abraham Gai that his writing has really underserved the purpose and meaning of writing because he has gone short on the facts he is supposed to share with public on media in the sense that he is too judgmental on Athor by being vocal saying “There is no other greater crime ever committed than the crime committed by George Athor against South Sudan.

My Gai, never misquote me as an advocate of Mr. George but I fear the use of such a language unless it is pronounce by a competent court of law a person remains a suspect until proven either guilty on innocent depending the outcome of assigned judicial verdict but a plain dress fellow like you cannot just hold up a heavy hammer in pronouncing premature statement on somebody. NB, Please Mr. Gai when you find two people arguing over a matter, never dare to judge unless you dig deep down the corridors of truth before passing such biased verdict.

There are always reasons in killing in a scene of a crime but the use of a word crime does not necessary mean somebody is guilty but just a literal meaning of act unless yours here where you have added a degree. When marginalized Sudanese picked up armed against a system, it wasn’t that we were criminal though the Sudan government pronounced us outlawed until we proved it to the world that something fishy is unfolding.

With the name oppression, it has no definite color or application but whoever that does it and his/her deeds carry that meaning qualifies to be an oppressor, so believe that Athor was cheated in elections and whoever that cheated in election does not have what it takes to be a national leader because the end result of his/her deeds is just a violent response that lead to suffering. Cheater is the first criminal in this cause if am to use your language. Please where you are is very far from reality of the Sudan. Let’s wait to see Athor being judged so that we can use whatever language we feel like but now it is yet premature.

Otherwise gross violation of human rights is being committed in Pigi when Athor has not even done it yet he is a criminal according to your judgment, I don’t know how you term the activities of SPLA in the area. Governor Kuol Manyang rigged and George Athor reacted negatively, these are two greater criminals whose none is never right because two wrongs can never make right with the exception that one criminal is supported by a system. Remember that a system can be wronged and that why killing citizens in Darfur in the name of sovereignty is senseless when a government kills its citizens in name of protecting a vague system. Bashir is charged of war crimes, crimes against humanity besides genocide.

Lastly, I doubt my statesmanship if I can turn down the demands of my people whom I claimed to lead in rigging likewise can’t impose myself if rejected by people. Kibaki did it in Kenya. Atok Dan is from Juba. Reach me at atokbaguot@gmail.com

Dr. Lam Shall Never Go Back to SPLM But….: Dengdit Ayok, who do you think you are you to invite Dr. Lam Akol to join the SPLM when it was the very SPLM that left him? Are you Salva Kiir or Pagan Amum? Please don’t contradict yourself and don’t think that the SPLM-DC was formed by Dr. Lam alone as an individual. Know that the SPLM-DC has been born with strong teeth and nails to stay and bring genuine democratic change to the country, especially Southern Sudan that has been misruled disastrously by Mr. Salva Kiir and the company to the extent of rigging madly the April 2010 elections with impunity. Be informed that the SPLM-DC is the biggest opposition political party today in Southern Sudan working to become the ruling government in future when the people shall send the SPLM to sit in the opposition back-benches in the parliament. Did you read what Wani Igga is saying these days? He said that the SPLM is for unity of the Sudan and all the youths and those who have been demonstrating for separation don’t represent the SPLM but themselves. But what next after Dr. Lam has come back to the SPLM as you wishfully think? Will this change the disastrous misrule of the South and SPLM by Kiir, Pagan and the clique? What will be the fate of multi-party system mentioned in our constitution if Dr. Lam has to re-join the SPLM? Please, if you have nothing valuable to write just don’t waste your time. Instead tell your bad Ruler and Sultan to invite Dr. Lam and the SPLM-DC to create common dialogue and understandings (as collaborating political parties equally registered) on some common agendum like fair and free transparent conduct of the referendum for self-determination by the people of Southern Sudan, spreading the culture of peace in Southern Sudan through reconciliation of all Southerners within the context of South-South dialogue, and stopping the Dinka SPLA from ethnically cleansing the Shilluk people (by burning their villages and looting their properties) and other Southerners suffering from SPLA oppressions in Greater Equatoria. If you come up with these suggestions then the SPLM-DC and Dr. Lam  shall be willing to engage with the SPLM to make the South a better place than a hell as it is now. Dr. James Okuk

Ngok Properties looted, rapes and murders of civilians under Command of Gen. Bol Kong. SPLA Soldiers must withdrawal from Ngok County (Sobat) Upper Nile.
SPLA activities are reaching high peak now. Soldiers have burned down Ngok growing Crops areas that help Civilians harvest their food supply chain. Athor family properties are looted rather than hunting for him in the bushes. Ngok are getting kicked out in their houses and soldiers took over the houses and looting theirs properties. In Pulus at Rut, Thoi and and Luac areas, Civilians are getting shot immediately no question about that. All theirs entirely Villages are burn down and all their Cattles have been taken by SPLA soldiers.  This is seems to be elimination of all Athor Tribe.
Now the problem is getting wider to section along Sobat area. Ngok people are getting arrested because they are from Athor tribes. One incident from Mading Bor, one Ngok by the name Miyen Kiir Guem was arrested, because he did ask permission to go to Malakal.  Permission was refused to him, a minute after he left to his house.  It was surrounded by soldiers and he was arrested. Some of Bor people are preaching by throwing insults to Ngok people; that they are Rebels.  Ridicule meaning Nyagates, which mean Looters or Robbers. When did Ngok Rob other people properties or Bor? Particularly, most of Bor people who are inciting hatred always.
When is GOSS going to learn the mistake that was made by starting SPLA Acuwa (Itang)? Now the GOSS Soldiers are killing Civilians randomly and raping women like criminal Rebels of LRA. Athor Deng is not Raping women or killing innocent civilians. SPLA/M leadership cannot control their criminal soldiers in SPLA. How will GOSS take us forward? Gieth Chol Deng, Canada

Supports Lam's SPLM rehabilitation I'm thrilled with the confined way in which you have seriously brought your message across to Dr. Lam. Days of struggle are numbered, the history is in the making, and will soon prevail in 2011. South will distance itself from the North and I share this genuine perspective of the writer. Where will Dr. Lam decide to stay if he does not rejoin SPLM now? Come back Dr. Lam, the man embraces you a zillion and he does not want to lose your bright mind. Give a man a reason to share for and come claim your membership today. Gol Jal, South Sudan. Ed. We don't necessarily have to be SPLM members to live in OUR dear South Sudan Nation, period!

Reply to George Ottomono Letter: Dinka in Magwi marry women at gunpoint It is always wrong to use pluralistic approach when dealing with issues affecting communities. It is wrong to say that Dinka in Magwi marry women at gunpoint! How many women were married at gunpoint in Magwi? How many Dinkas have benefited from that act? What is the work of police in Magwi? There are too many questions that will remain unanswered if this was to be an honest debate. What I am very sure is that the writer has ill intentions about Dinkas or his girlfriend was married off to a Dinka man who paid hundreds of cattle. I think George Ottomono wrote out of frustration given his humiliation by a foreigner.

It is a shame in Dinka culture to live with a woman without paying any dowry. It is even shoddier to marry a woman at a gunpoint. That practice does not exist in Dinka unless the community has undergone cultural metamorphosis during the war. Dinka marriage is the most expensive one all over Sudan. Going by current statistics, it is correct to say that Dinkas are still paying a lot in dowries.

I would like George to come up with names of people who married women at gunpoint. Whether they were reported to police or not? What was the reaction of the girl’s parents? Presumably, the girls were kidnapped at gunpoint, is there a way to get hold of them? If Eastern Equatoria Law Enforcement Authority can find them, why not snatching the girl from the alleged kidnappers and let the law deal with them? Dhieu Dok Minyang, Calgary Canada

Instead of Independence, South Sudan should seek a merger with Ethiopia, Kenya or Central African Republic. It's bad enough that Eritrea just got their independence. Its time to unite Africa, not have hundreds or Thousands of independent countries based on Tribes or religious preferences. Ethiopia, Kenya, and CAR are majority Christians. Why not merge with one of them so Africa can be united and strong. The only real solution to all of Africa's problem is unity. AFRICA UNITE! Your brothers and Sisters in America support you. Tony Bray, USA

Wishing Quick Recovery to Mr Kiir and Long Live John Luk: I wish Mr. Kiir a quick recovery from Nairobi (where he was flown for exhaustion treatment as we were told). Let him be taken to Mombasa to relax in the Indian Ocean and forget for a while the stress of the flashback of bad leadership that has led to existence of no good hospitals and treatment centers in Southern Sudan. Let him come back immediately after the treatment because we need him in Southern Sudan now. Let Kiir learn a lesson for his future political career that politics is an exhausting work if you don't manage it well and if you allow mess and worries to be all over. Meanwhile I welcome the move from the New GoSS Minister of Legal Affairs to order the release of the SPLM-DC prisoners MPs of April elections SPLM's outrage of the Shilluk choice. History is already recording Hon. former Judge Mr. Luk as a good minister compared to Michael Makuei and Gier Chuang who imprisoned those MPs based on crude hatred to SPLM-DC. Let Luk continue with the good work to release others who are still bleeding inside Kiir's MIs and Security detention cells in the South. Competition is an important factor of growth and political maturity in Southern Sudan. Long live Minister John Luk and long live his good start and honor of the rule of law. Dr. James Okuk

Do you need Kiir or Bashir in the village to rule? Dr. Okuk, if you want Kiir to be your leader, you make sure that there are no more slave activities in the village taking place under his leadership. And if you need Bashir to be your serving master like you do by carrying out slave activities in Khartoum, it is better for you to stay in Khartoum and leave South and it villages alone.
No slave activities in the village will be allowed unless a slave owner like Bashir defeat us and rule in the village to provide slave services to its slaves that is where it will possibly happen. But nothing like that will happen under the Sun and under Kiir's leadership besides you be freed from slavery. Do you really like our South? Your being in Diaspora in Khartoum and out of Sothern map is not an excuse to rely on refugees who are living in neighboring countries to return home first before your return to South. Abraham Gai, USA

Southerners in the North Should Go Back to South: But what about the refugees and non-refugees in Diaspora overseas and in the neighboring countries? When are they coming back to Southern Sudan to get re-settled again so that the IDPs in the North can take an example from them and take courage to return home? But who will come back to his village along the Nile or Sobat rivers when it is already signed out by Salva Kiir and the cronies to be occupied by other GoSS favorites? Who will go back to re-settle in a village where SPLA loot, rape, harass, arrest, torture and kill innocent civilians in pretext of disarmament and even burn their villages? Who'll go back from the North to the village where the SPLA prevents and even beats NGOs staff who try to assist the villagers get medicines and other help and attention? Who'll go back from the North to the villages or towns where the SPLM-GoSS arrest and detain without genuine charges the SPLM-DC MPs and others? My simple answer is "No One'. God have mercy on South Sudan under Kiir's disastrous rule!!! Dr. James Okuk

Thanks for article I appreciate the writing of Atok Dan Baguoot. It's well balanced analysis to address a community conflict. It's true there are people who are taken by emotions when they post an an article. But Atok can make a good conflict resolution officer. He is very object and clear in mind. Thank you very much for your good article. Urbano Tipo, Sudan

Kiir isn't chairman of Land Commission Dear Journalist Atok Dan Bagout, Thank you very much for having hit the nail on the head in connection with the above subject. In your reply to Mr Othow, you stated that, President Salva Kiir is not a Land Commission Chairman, that is the point. Unfortunately, Kiir's creation of Piji and Akoko Dinka Counties in Chollo Land is the very reason for the conflict between the former good neighbors since time immemorial. I think it would be hot news if you could take some moments to interview President Kiir on how and why he acted like that without applying formal and legal procedures necessary to support his actions. James Ogilo Agor USA

Dinka in Magwi marry women at gunpoint Lack of rule of law in southern Sudan the greatest threat to southern Sudanese unity. After repartition from Uganda in 2009, we have seen very many things are happening coupled with the CPA. To be serious with the GoSS, we can’t sit idle by watching our women and daughters been mishandled by some individuals from Dinka tribe at our own home in our own houses. If the war of SPLA/M is to give freedom for such individuals in such a tribe, we better watch out. Irritating life of some Dinka in Magwi County may very soon earn a lot of trouble to some Dinka. I'm completely not happy after complying a full report about our Eastern Equatorian son who was shot dead by a Dinka in Magwi County. How can GoSS give mandate to Dinka to continue forcing women in Equatoria in marriage? If the Guns meant for national protection are now being used for committing such atrocities, what are we, the people of southern Sudan working out to build? These behaviors of some Dinka will amount to reaction. Do you people know how it feels to take women into marriage by gun? George Ottomono, Magwi, Eastern Equatoria

No retreat after defeat, Gen. Athor First and foremost, the Referendum is for all of us. Second, I personally do not understand why now not before or then? I think if General Athor's really keen to help us he should have not contested for the governorship, period. You do not retreat after defeat that is considered your daily life's weakness. Athor has been with us in this very long journey and yet he did not attempt to prompt anything like this. James Mamer Alier, South Sudan

Kiir's malicious sacrifice of Shilluk Dr. Justin Ambago Ramba, thank you very much for the sympathetic and the compassionate stand you have taken to expose and convey to the Southern, Sudanese and international community the plight and the agony in which the Shilluk people are being subjected to by their own government of South Sudan and without caring or sympathy to those Shilluk individuals who have dedicated all their life to the SPLM/A struggle of the Southern people. You have written much on the Southern future direction and I have been appreciative of all your writings. I have been writing on the plight of the Shilluk on this issue, since before the death of our beloved leader Dr John Garang De Mabior. May the Almighty God rest his soul in eternal peace.

The issue in dispute came up when Hon Abel Alier was the President of the High Executive Council in Juba and Mr. Venansio Loro was the Commissioner "Governor" of Jonglei Province “Now Governor" of Jonglei State. The HEC rejected the claim of the Ruweng Dinka of Jonglei Province. They again petitioned to the government of late Joseph James Tumbura and they were told the same. They raised the same complaint to late Garang who also rejected. Dr Garang gave them a county called Khor Fulus and instead of establishing their county in Jonglei State, they insisted that it must be either on Sobat or White Nile River in Upper Nile State.

In short the Dinka Claim is to have them occupy all the eastern bank of the White Nile, from Zeraf mouth in the south to Joda “southern border with the north”, and that the Shilluk should confine themselves to the western bank of the White Nile. President Salva Kiir Mayerdit endorsed the Ruweng ROAD MAP. He created for them a county named Piji in Upper Nile State and this is where General Oyay Deng Ajak and I hail from. So Salva should not shed crocodile tears when his most senior General lost elections in his own back yard.

My own guess is that is Kiir has maliciously sacrificed the young Shilluk warriors as they were known and called 'Garang or sometimes Nyandeng boys.' This is SPLM/A problem, but the Shilluk anger and bitterness on the encroachment of the Ruweng on to their land must be separated from the South-North politics. James Ogilo, USA; Former MP for Malakal 3 times and government Minister aged 72. And let me be proved a liar.

Let's Support Ghana! First of all, thank to the African countries that had made it to compete among the 32-countries in the first-round of the World Cup 2010 in South Africa. Congratulation to Ghanaians' players who are still pushing to represent the continent in the World Cup. Minus our war chronic system in the continent, all the African countries should bow to support Ghana in the next round for the victory that had never and shall be the first time for the African country to reach the final-round if Ghana with our support can make it.

I urge to my continent of birth that the world has gone ahead in some miles while Africa is still only best at wars. Let's try other side of the coin if this surface is not taking the opportunities to compete in the whole social agendas, that means the long term freedom fighters in the continent should be convinced or given the chances to rule to meet the world social margins and so that the leaders and other social group should have time for such import activities. For example let's look at South Africa that gained the independent in 1994, they made it like other countries in the world.

I am sure when the countries like South Sudan are given the independence, there shall be 2-African countries in the Final Round in the next 4-years World Cup. Thank all. Kuer Dau Apai, Australia

Under Bad Situation in South, Northern Sudan Seems Better: Gat Charwear Bol, is it the Arabs Muslims or fundamentalists in Northern Sudan who desire to have a new state in Southern part of the country or is it the duty of the Southern Sudanese separatists to achieve that? If it is the duty of the separatists, then the rule of relevance dictates that they rather focus on South Sudan affairs and the bad policies and practices that need to be avoided in the new independent state. Talking of someone's else affairs will not help. It seems you are making yourself a laughing stock when you try to conjecture that "southern Sudanese are far moderate than Islamic brothers in the north. South Sudanese respect laws and we all know that, it is just a matter of enforcing the laws and everything should fall in its right place." Are you talking of a utopian Southern Sudan or what? The current situation in Southern Sudan under Salva Kiir's bad governance speaks by itself something different from what you believe. Even Northern Sudan seems to be better, otherwise those who have been intimidated and displaced by the SPLA would have not opted to take refuge there. Dr. James Okuk.

South Sudan a secular nation Dr. James Okuk, though I'm not your fan nor a confused reader of your routine biased articles against Monyjang (Dinka) tribe in South Sudan merely due to your overwhelmed tribalism, I convinced myself to give you my high-five for saying what others don't know about Christianity. Look, you either be careful or else you will be alone in this topic because the majority of our people are only taught what is said in the verses of the Bible but not as far as outside as you have said. It only a few who are alarmed of the trend of those who mingle Christianity with our people and the forthcoming country (promised land, they say). Truly, we are losing what we are claiming to be protecting and praising if we simply agree to relinquish our African names for the names in the Bible that they will let us be welcomed into the kingdom of Christ. If we name ourselves James, John, Peter, Mary, Debora, etc, then what do you think will retain our identity to our coming offspring? What I need to say is that South Sudan is not a religious nation or Vatican country to those who want it to be. We are secular state, period. Not all our heroes who died in struggle of our nation were Christians, but majority are but some are not. John Junub, UK

With Kiir's Wrong Government Nothing Shall be Called Post-Referendum: Dear SSN Editor, please allow me to complement and add my super-voice of support to your masterpiece expository editorial. What you have jotted down is a nearly perfect diagnosis of the looming bad news in Southern Sudan under the continuation of Salva Kiir's bad rule in Juba backed by NCP's treacherous SPLM partners in Khartoum. However, I would like to draw your kind attention to the eminent possibility that there shall never be anything called 'after-referendum', given the continuation of the GoSS status quo with more hell coming on earth in that part of beloved African land. Believe me Sir! We don't need to wait for what we shall not get as you seem to suggest in the conclusion of your excellent editorial. We need to act now before it is too late to remove the bad governance under Kiir's rule if we want to have any situation called post-referendum for South Sudan, otherwise we are just waiting and hoping for nothingness. Mark my words!!! Dr. James Okuk

Hoping this cabinet will do something for South Sudan. We have to support all of the new government, which was formed, and the head of it, our President, Salva Kiirdit. We have to give our strength to work together them. Whether you support them politically or not, there is no other alternative but to work together with them. In order that these people work very hard, and succeed, we must stand behind them. If you are working, and you hear things spoken against you behind you, this can stop you from achieving something. These 32 cabinet members  represent all nationalities in the Sudan.   I think that our president is doing his best, and we don't want South Sudan to have insecurity, so when you are angry, do not take a gun against your own government. No enemy is ruling you- it is you who rule yourself. Acuil Adiang Acuil, SPLM Political activist, Berlin, Germany

Thanks to Lakes State governor Well done Mr. Chol Tong de Mayay for being a real man who has brought the changes for your government which you just formed. Thank you also for blocking the hatred and thugs like Paul Mayom Akech who had attempted to stop you from nominating the following people to work with you in your government, 1- Eli Magok Manyol 2- Marco Chol Maciec 3- Dr Mayek, and 4- Ayuak Makoi. Indeed these are they real people you need if you want to save your people in a right way. Let Mr. Mayom Akech Riak vomit that chalice of poison out of his big stomach. We people of Rumbek have suffered severely at your hands. Majok Aker Ayai from Rumbek

Government fairly represented Dear Joseph Adyieng, your observation is right but 32 ministerial positions are not divisible by 10 states, there can still be a remainder and could not be thrown away. The remaining two positions can be given to any other state (s) based on relationship of the president with specific person in that particular state.  Representation you are thinking about is different from what is done. You look far beyond your nose. This government is fairly represented.
When will you stop calling names of Dinka and Nuer for nothing even if it is something that does not concern communities? For the case of Anna Ito and Mr. Pagan Amuom, they cannot go out of SPLM; read what SPLM manifesto says about party resolution so that you will be able to write or tell people what you know. Majok, South Sudan

Pres. Kiir's plan against Pagan Ref. to Adyieng's article, the plan has long been drawn ever since bush era. a clandestine Kiir had on the back of Garang. Many were and still are aware of the KIIR-Bahar-Gazal plot when SPLA gets in. Kiir was about to execute a plot openly once Dr. Garang suggested to him to keep the vice presidency rather than C-in-C position. Garang didn't know the innermost of his deputy until it was too late to save the situation. Mr. President is not yet on full scale about what he has in mind. Look at Pagan, Uyay and Alfred Akwoj, have been reduced several steps before they go for good. W.O. Kuachikuan, USA

GoSS New Administration must put its house in order! I'd first like to extend congratulations to Mr. Salva Kiir Mayardit’s new appointed cabinet. I wish you all the best luck in your new duties and I am hoping that all of you will do your homework.

The current urgent homework for the GoSS is to resolve the differences between SPLM and General George Athor in Khorfulus along with cadres General Gatluak Gai in Unity Sate who are currently fighting the SPLA army over two months now. We cannot afford to go for referendum next year without resolving these matters because the enemy of peace would want to exploit our differences and make it impossible for referendum to take place in 2011.

GoSS administration must now begin to prepare our people for the referendum next years and it must maintain the Unity among the Southerners. GoSS must also put its house in order priori the referendum in 2011so that we as a people are united when voting for independent South Sudan.

GoSS new administration must also tackle the corruption which has become a normal practice at all levels of government. The new administration should allow the minister of corruption to do its job. Those who are found to have committed wrongdoing must be persecuted. It is a shameful for GoSS to spend 8.5 billons dollars during the last five years without anything tangible to show.

Transformation of SPLM/A army into modern conventional army is necessary. It is very important that SPLM/A transform itself into more conventional army through the use of new concepts, organizational structure, and technology. The SPLA should be neutral army and should not be influence by politicians or political parties. It job is to protect and defend South Sudan against foreign aggressors. SPLM/A also should stop brutal treatment and killing of its innocent citizens. Jwothab Othow, USA

Salva Kiir- it's needs a miracle to change Reference to brother Moses Gatluak's, the GOSS president's shortcoming is real and would not go away. Same case with the rest of the present SPLM/A. In this government, except for Gathoth Mai, Gier with help, and Dr Riak, none of the rest has been in active front line. And for me personally, I'm really not surprised of the way they disregard the suffering of the civilians. It is how it was in the all SPLA/M refugee camps. Same way they treated the disabled who were wounded in actions, likewise with men in front lines. It is in the blood. Don't expect it to vanish. The only person to change this situation is Salva Kiir but it needs a miracle to have that come true. Only thing we all pray for now is to let the referendum pass through in spite of the prevailing weaknesses. We also appeal to those of George Athor, Gatluak and Yau-Yau to let it go for now until afterwards. W.O. Kuachikuan, USA

Arab Sudan new strategy The long awaited results for the new government of president Bashir is already out, despite the fact that many people have reservations about the strategy or criteria for selecting ministries and ministers. What drew my attention is the assigning of two NIF states' ministers in the ministry of Oil. The motive behind this  assignment is to interrupt any decision by the SPLM minister in the ministry and also to push NIF policies in the entire ministry as before. But all in all the Arab concept toward southerners remains the same and they are struggling to regain their damaged reputation in western Sudan by allocating to them some key ministries such as ministry of justices, in order to attract the rebel movements in the west to sign peace deal before southern referendum.
Therefore President kiir has to benefit from his northern counter part mistakes in order to form a government (inclusive govt) that can heal post election wounds and prepare southerners for the referendum with only remaining six months to take-off. Stephen Pitya, Khartoum

Will the current criticism of the government based on their Ethnic-line, help or make the system worse? There are many out there who don't wish us well, who actually don't want our freedom, and who are not actually too far from the burning flame of fire in Khartoum (I shouldn't actually called it Khartoum because it is around here). To make the matter look worse; it is not just a criticism per se but a criticism based on the tribal status of the leader, which sometime lead me to the question, "Will the current criticism of the government (which is always based on tribal basis) help or worsen the situation of the governments and governance? I don't think it will, just simply because of the status of Southern Sudan.
Most  commentators do criticize the leaders based on their tribes and not their status of their leadership which is actually not a wise thing in the professional arena; given a principle that, "every dog has it own day." I think that culture will dwarf the good reputation our next nation. I humbly advice and persuade my fellow citizens that we better criticize the leadership and not their tribes which always nail to death our Unity as Southerners. Daniel Wuor Thonker, Egypt

SPLM leaders: stop lying for people on referendum in the south in 2011 Southeners should not waste time to hear SPLM top leaders words in the government. Most of them are liars! They are not talking for things that could make people happy in the South in the government. President Salva Kiir, Dr. Riak Machar and Pagan Amum are promised to Southerners that they are going to make REFERENDUM in 2011 happen. Well, but in which way? How are they going to make it happen? Southerners are not UNITED! Rebellions are now occurring in the South. People are famished to death in the South! Soldiers are gone for months without salaries. Schools are not running. No jobs for people in the ten states in the South. Hospitals are empty without drugs. Again, how can South breaks off from north? Vice Riak Machar in his own words said that South can go away without borders demarcation! Very funny indeed! Demarcation of a borders is very important before going to self determination. Again, SPLM and NCP signed the peace accord for  UNITY OF SUDAN. How the division between north and south can take place? Chief Abiko, USA

Live In Illusion, Wake Up with SPLM Nothingness: This is the suitable description for those who think and dream that the so-called Referendum for Self-determination of Southern Sudanese shall be independence of a new Republic in Africa called  "South Sudan". What has been written in the CPA and enacted as law for the Referendum is just full of treacheries that shall give the illusionists a last  minute shock. There is not going to be peaceful independence of South Sudan. Believe me! Just revisit the article I wrote recently titled "Secession Is Not Given Independence: SPLM/A Championship Without Trophy!" and get some details of my prediction.

Therefore, let's time and money not be wasted for achieving nothingness even if you held pro-referendum demonstrations in Juba and launch "Countdown to Southern Sudan Referendum" in expensive hotels when, in fact, many poor Southerners are suffering from hunger fangs right in the face of corrupt GoSS and SPLM. If you want independence of South Sudan seriously just prepare to have it by right war of liberation without any confusion of the aim.

But under whose leadership shall this war-of-independence be conducted? Shall it be under SPLM/A which means Sudan People's Liberation Movement/Army which has nothing to do with South Sudan People's Liberation Movement/Army (SSPLM/A) like the Eritrean People's Liberation Front (EPLF) which had something to do with Eritrea only and nothing to do with Ethiopia? I doubt because Mr. Salva Kiir and the clique are already refusing and promising not to go for war of independence of South Sudan as he is afraid to lose his present corruption wealth and comfort. The real liberation of South Sudan lies elsewhere; not with the SPLM/A. Dr. James Okuk

Stop tribal boasting I am puzzle by the writings and comments of many Southern intellectuals, who always bring up their tribes in an attempt to raise them above every other ethnic group in Southern Sudan, calling each of their tribes nations. This for me could cause and inflame tensions among our tribes, which might lead to instability in the Region. In this case Southern Sudan may be described as a land which eats "its off springs," is this what our intellectual wants? I want to urge both Daniel and Kwathi Ajawin to regard their languages when they speak of the issues concerning Southern Sudan. For me the security of the citizen in the Region is more importance than self-interests, which every party want to achieve against the other. Madut Tong, Kenya

The ruling clique in Juba vs. George Athor In Athor's statement, the phrase 'ruling clique' in Juba is mentioned eight times. Who's the notorious group in Juba? Are they southerners or a black Jellaba in our beloved south? The ruling clique uses SPLA and its security organs and as their personal properties according to the statement. If gen.George Athor who is a military leader can not survive in Juba, what about the ordinary person? In my opinion the south is being ruled by the loathsome elites who cares about nothing but power. They deploy out national army to settle their personal, families and tribal conflicts. Let's pray to our living Creator to remove the ruling clique in Juba. Paulino Deng, USA

Why is SPLA in Upper Nile When Dr Lam Akol formed SPLM-DC as a party against SPLM, he knows very well that he is humiliating Shilluk tribe intentionally. But we SPLM know the huge contribution of our Shilluk leaders and youth during the war. I agree with those who say that SPLM is respecting Shilluk in the South more than others because of some reasons. The only person who is intentionally humiliating the Shilluk is Dr Lam Akol Ajawin and his closest politicians but not SPLM. We are respecting Shilluk because of Oyai Deng Ajak, Pagan Amum and the rest who stood firm in SPLM until the signing of CPA in 2005. Who denies this respect? Yes, Mr. Kwathi Ajawin needs to understand that you have your own interpretation about SPLM, SPLM-DC,and the Shilluk people.
I got surprised Mr. Kwathi Ajawin you addressed the present of SPLA in the upper Nile. One, SPLA is in Upper Nile for disarmament, but not because they are grabbing Shilluk land.
Second, SPLA is in Upper Nile because of the unfinished business between the North and South. Do you want SPLM/A to leave part of Upper Nile for SPLM-DC, right? I don't think you can afford defending the Shilluk areas without SPLA. Clearly, SPLM-DC has been misunderstood by some of Shilluk people, they thought that SPLM-DC is Shilluk party but that is not right completely. This Splm-DC is NCP. Bol Deng Bol USA

Shilluk need internal redemption Writing back to refute those visible facts from outside deserve no apology from Daniel. You better first give Daniel and the South an apology for your detected behaviors. Nyikang land is a land that needs a lot of internal redemptions before it is fully recognized with respect from outside. That land is a curse with the people who live in there.
You fall down to your knees many times for the same sin a man is ashamed of to do often, but you have been assuming that demon's tricks are off on the God's sight. Mind you, your cleverness is not that greater compare to what God has and other common man. Those shallow activities you are practicing on daily basis have no power to out play mighty knowledge of any man with given mission to bring freedom. And you should not lie and deny things whenever you are told of your mounting mistakes. Whether you join us or Arabs, it doesn't make any difference whatsoever. It is up to you to choose where to go between the two sides. We are so sorry for Nyikang's grandchildren due to the absence of knowledge your grandmother Nyikang left behind for you to guide you into truth. Abraham Gai, USA

Disarming the Unarmed Civilian; SPLA Incompetence: I have never seen in the whole world that an army of peace can go out madly to disarm the civilians who don't possess arms, and leave those with arms to do their insurgence freely. But what happens when the shameless SPLA go out brutally to disarm the unarmed civilians of Southern Sudan in the Shilluk Kingdom and Equatoria, for example? Surely, the SPLA is telling them to arm themselves whether as arrow-boys or spear-boys or gun-boys so that they could get disarmed. This is South Sudan we would like to have under the bad rule of Salva Kiir and the cronies!!! God have mercy!!!! The up-side-down that the SPLM has done with democracy when its leaders went out to chose their voters (rigging) instead of voters coming in to choose them freely, is exactly the very up-side-down they are doing now by going out to oppress the civilians to produce arms from no where so that they are collected in the name of disarmament and exhibited in the SSTV as an excellent work. The SPLA has been defeated in many battles by the real armed men in Southern Sudan. For example, this week in a village called Ogod, some kilometers north of Malakal town, the SPLA were badly defeated by some few gun-men who killed 9 from them. After the defeat and retreat the very SPLA went amok beating, torturing and doing other dirty things to the civilian villages in the Shilluk Kingdom that had nothing to do with those who defeated them. The SPLA still keeps under arrest and torture in unknown location, some SPLM-DC members in Malakal (Dr. Odol, Hon Gai, etc.). They have also arrested inside the town the National Intelligence and Security Services (NISS) Director General of Greater Upper Nile, Lt. Colonel, Josephy Awan Nyikako, simply because he is nephew of Dr. Lam Akol, and because he opposes torturing and oppression of civilians in the name of false disarmament. Is this the South we shall have under the SPLM/A self-acclaimed liberators where the National Security Directors and other parties members (including MPs) are arrested without any charges, for opposing the evil deeds by the SPLA? I think with this behavior from the SPLM/A, the bushes of Southern Sudan shall be rich of rebels against Kiir's regime soon before or after the referendum (if it is going to take place at all). Very Bad!  Dr. James Okuk

Athor wants to bring Arab colonialism Gen. Athor has the intention of bringing Arabs back to colonize us again. The statement released by Athor himself that Southerners can not manage their own affairs but need control means everything he intended to do to Southerners. Well, if Athor is truthful than all those he is against who are the same people who fought the war of freedom for 22 years of SPLA, he should understand that independence will come without him and his Dinka Ngok which is shameful to him. I agree with people who ruled out talks with you because he's nothing but a trader who wanted to trade human blood. Majok Aker Ayai, Sudan

Skeptical about change of County commissioners, a response to Monyluak de Mijok. I'm hereby responding to publicly acknowledge that your public call for the political appointments of county commissioners through general election or popular consultation is appeasable and laudable and if the GOSS and SPLM have a conscious gut to maneuver with public opinions and consensus, then I believe they should heed your genuine call or should have made it an electoral policy to elect county commissioners through public votes in the last April general election. It is indeed a noble petition that deserve consideration by the presidency and worthy activism through parliamentary assembly to be passed as a legislative bill through debate.

However, Mr. Monyluak de Mijok, chances are slim and bleak for your public request to be heard and considered by the defunct and undemocratic SPLM and GOSS that had robbed and oppressed the Sudanese masses of general election last April.  This made it impossible for the incumbent county commissioners to be relieved, replaced, dismissed or impeached and substituted with the most qualified and experienced commissioners who would be more loyal and considerate and submissive to his people needs and demands. The GOSS and the SPLM are not looking for the county commissioners with such big interests for their county populace they are representing, but their interests as ruling corrupted cliques, lie in the county commissioners who would only run the county in conformity to their corruption and nepotistic policies in Juba. That is why it would be very difficult for your state governor of Unity State and president Salva Kiir, to rotate the incumbent county commissioner, Miabeng de Lang, of your Panrieng County, because both Salva Kiir and Taban Deng Gai are so corrupted and nepotistic that they also want to maintain the same failed and defunct county commissioners in various counties across south Sudan including the Panrieng County Commissioner to remain unchanged in their positions. I'm very pessimistic and skeptical that your genuine call for county commissioners leadership rotations won't be attended to as is requested. The fact that the general elections was rigged by the same minority and corrupted ruling cliques in Juba, Bentiu and Panrieng can attest to my pessimism and skepticism. Otherwise, best wishes in advance should they heed the public requests in actionable principles and policies. Thirik Mijak, USA

Antagonistic move of SPLM in Chollos’ land will badly engrave her vision I didn’t think it worthy of SPLM party in these costly times to launch an aggressive move on Chollo people. If the SPLM is worsening in her status it should not turn her strategies against Chollo people. Me against my brothers, Shame on those who're using the SPLA soldiers and neutral bodies as securities of south Sudan against Chollo. If the SPLA and SPLM party is failing in such a spectacular way against her defined enemies of south Sudan theirs gun should not be used on Chollos.

The difference between with the SPLA soldiers and SAF soldiers against the southerners is similar. If the defenders of the nation are being hijacked into different individual interests against theirs brothers, what does it mean for us to fight SAF?

Why is the GOSS feeling toothless in others parts of the south Sudan? If the government officials are not behinds these atrocities of arresting innocent civilians, why are they quiet? Concerning these growing incursions by SPLA soldiers, they could push Malakal’s into civil war to a
dangerous level. Over the last 4 years, SPLA and SPLM have taken Chollo land openly backed by Jiengs and GOSS. The government is going to lose credibility in the eyes of the people. Nyaopun Aban Aban. Yei, south Sudan.

Pres. Kiir must pass leadership test Truly, I'd like to comment about the article" Kiir's next Government" The author have explained a lot of things and indeed if at all SPLM wants to gain popularity among southerners, let them take those advises into considerations. God told prophet Jeremiah to put his house in order first before thinking to lead his people. For one to succeed in any thing, one must go through various tests. I believe our President Kiir has been going through those tests to prove himself capable to lead the people of south Sudan to the promised land and beyond. But tribalism, nepotism, corruption and wrong advisers are failing President Kiir's test to be leader of the people of south Sudan. Therefore, President Kiir should try by all means this time to pass the test in the next five years by stopping tribalism, nepotism and fight corruption, putting the right person in the right place regardless of which tribe or party they come from. It is bad to see one tribe dominating every key position in the Government. James Y, South Sudan.

SPLM will collapse under Kiir dictatorship Dear Editor, on your editorial titled "SPLM/A Terror: Will Kiir be a worse tyrant than Idi Amin or Mengistu?" I think, Kiir will be worst tyrant than Idi Amin Dada or Mengistu Haile Mariam in South Sudan Nation. I predict that Kiir will not give up power even if he lost the next election if South Sudan become an independent nation. Kiir dictatorship and greed for power was the one that cause George Athor to rebel against the movement he has spent most of life at it and more rebellions might be on the way. It was Kiir's orders to arrest George Athor that made Mr. Athor rebel knowing that if the SPLA caught him, he will spent good years in jail like Mamur innocently did. How can a person who lost election be arrested?
The same Kiir ordered his secret agents to arrest Gen. Dau Aturjong who lost election in Northern Bahr el Ghazal. But when asked why he was trying to arrest Dau, he said that he never heard of that thing. Quoting your editorial, "Shockingly, south Sudanese citizens witnessed with their own eyes and ears high level SPLM officialdom and ruthless SPLA soldiery masquerading in different facets of the so-called security apparatus, engaging in illegitimate acts during the electoral processes to facilitate the success of those sanctioned by their party." Most south Sudan were surprised by SPLM/A actions during elections by intimating, terrorizing, beating people, rigging votes, and discriminating SPLM members.
The next GoSS will be more corrupt because it was dominated by one party and they will vote YES for Kiir Mayardit. I Think it will be up to SPLM party to decide for us southerners as they did in April 2010 elections. If they feel that unity is good, they vote for it without questions.
Kiir qualities of dictatorship, tyranny, and autocracy will cause the SPLM party to collapse and most SPLM members will quit the party. Deng Lual, USA

Thanks, Mr. James Hoth Mai, Your terrific call for the reconciliation and the forgiveness among the SPLM members is appreciated. This is a speech we were waiting for a long time, from a rational leader like you Mr. James Hoth Mai (Chief of General Staff, SPLA). I appreciate a peaceful message that you sent to all southerners.  Peace isn't something we wish for; but it’s something we make, something we do, and as well a something we give away. We wish that the Southern Sudan leaders should always produce such kind of speeches. The Government South Sudan (GOSS) is a government of people, for people, and by people. General George Athor’s case can be handled in a peaceful way, because there is a theory saying that, “when a military crackdown can spread resentment and those resentful people will become guerrillas”, so if the GOSS cannot handle this problem peacefully, I think the southerners will divide themselves and the conflict can get worse. But, General James Hoth Mai, takes an excellent choice by calling for reconciliation and forgiveness as he point out that, “I call upon comrades Kuol Manyangs, George Athors, John Luks, Dr Riek Gai, Joseph Duers, Ismail Konyi, John Kongs, King Agada, and others of Jonglei State to bury your differences and forge a way forward for the benefit of your people,". General James Hoth Mai appealed to all southerners as he cited, "Most importantly, I call upon comrade Salva Kiirs, Riek Machars, and the entire Government of Southern Sudan to initiate the reconciliation drive and say enough is enough! The tribal conflicts have become a nuisance to our young Government. May I call upon individual tribes in southern Sudan to embrace peace and harmony with your neighboring tribes", I agree with Mr. Mai that the Jongle leaders can put away their differences as well to stop involving the GOSS’s army in their own conflicts, because what going on these days in South are tribal conflicts. The southerners forget the reason they take the guns against the Khartoum Government in 1983, to get their own independent and be free from the oppressors.  Unfortunately, southerners return against themselves as they are eliminating themselves one by one.

My suggestion is, the SPLM leaders should avoid the aggressive and negative words like ‘disown and crash’ and adapt the polite and positive words like ‘reconciliation and forgiveness’ as mentioned by Mr. Hoth Mai, because people take their leader words.  As a saying goes “everything that goes around must comes around. The rumor spread like a wild fire when people get the message from Mr. Makuei Lueth, the GOSS Justice Minister, who rejected negotiation with General. Athor Deng; and wanted him to be crash militarily. His statement generates the tribal conflict among people. The government is a big organization that includes everyone, but the GOSS seems like a company that's owned by a few owners, when they disagree on profit, they dissolve the organization and divide their share accordingly. Why southerners want to dissolve their organization so-called (GOSS) by disowning their employees and wanting to crash them? I never came across in any book mentioning that a government can disown and crash it own people. Why the Southern Sudan’s government do pick a hero’s day as a Remembrance Day for their men and women who died  for their land, while they are still killing each others. It’s not new or old about the tribalism in South Sudan, but we better take General James Hoth Mai’s important words of Reconciliation and Forgiveness. Chol Deng Chol, Canada

Blame Kiir for poor leadership, not Dr. Garang Reply to Majok Makorou: There is time that someone can act very badly toward the people and there can be a time to perform well in the community. You said now that all those whom were practicing corruption are those who were been brought up by Dr. John Garang. Well what you said at the moment is not true. I think those whom you mentioned were not good from the very beginning; if they were good then why should they follow someone else's poor method?. Addition to that, Dr. John Garang's government cannot be blame because what they were doing by then was to liberate the South from the enemy and they have managed it. Now I think the Government of Salva Kiir is not engaged in any war and it is well equipped government of which if it failed to deliver any kind of the development required by the community then that blame should goes to Salva Kiir on his poor leadership. One cannot put the blame to a wrong person. Dr. John was our right leader and no one can insult him in where he has gone. Michael Malwal Mawein, South Sudan

Who killed the Chollo chief? The assassination of the chief of Chollo on his way to attend the inaugural ceremony of the governor of Malakal is a horrifying and tragic incident which can not be condoned. If the perpetrators are traced, they can be brought to justice. That reminds me of the ways the LRA are mutilating the innocent people of WES. If that is how things should be made to elapse, then the security in the South is not good and must be studied. There are allegations that the killers allegedly are militias affiliated to SPLM-DC but as a matter of fact there are no proofs to substantiate those allegations. I pray that the Almighty God rest his soul in eternal peace and my condolences to the bereaved. Peter Pal, Sudan

Gen. George Athor will end up like Joseph Kony of Uganda Exactly, this is how it happened for Mr. Kony, he hurt Museveni for no reasons or political agenda. What is the problem of Athor quitting the SPLA? Is it because of governorship position? If yes, than Athor must be a fool. Majok Aker Rumbek

Garang first sowed seeds of corruption Why cry now? It's Dr John Garang who sowed the seeds of corruption in the South during the 21 years of struggle. All those who are actively engaged in corruption are those who were brought up to the political scene by Garang. You should have cried in those days not now. Salva Kiir was a captain in SAF in 1983, he joined the SPLA in that rank. In the SPLA, he was promoted by Garang from captain to the present rank. Oyai was a primary school teacher, James Hoth was a student, Majak Agot was a form one student at Malek. Now all the corrupt people in the SPLM/SPLA were brought up by Garang. Let's then condemn Garang the creator of the corrupt elements before we talk of change. Mapuor Makorou, India

We'd unite before secession The current GOSS administration needs some support from the expertise either in Africa or European countries because the stage that the leadership of GOSS has reached now is very serious and dangerous. We of course fight with Arab in the North for the right of our people in the South, but now the aims we fought for has not been seen by the people and the general situation in the South is not safe. There are a lots of implications which are happening every now and then, meanwhile the government didn't settle those problems.

Our president needs to be wise enough to make sure he has united the people of the South Sudan in one track to overcome the referendum. The time which remain for our secession is very little of which we have to reconcile now, get united and try to declare our separation without fear among ourselves. We are one people, we should not keep on supporting tribal hatred. Michail Aleu, Aweil, South Sudan

SPLA/M is Creating a Hell On Earth in Shilluk Kingdom: This is South Sudan we want to have under Salva Kiir’s bad rule. May God rest in peace the souls of the eight people who were shot down dead in the Shilluk Kingdom on Sunday. As we speak here now many SPLM-DC supporters from the Shilluk have been arrested in Malakal following the incident, including three MPs-elect. Many Shilluk youth are also being arrested by the SPLA MIs for more torture and traumatization. What a hell on earth the SPLA/M is creating in the Shilluk Kingdom!!!

Please SPLA/M release those innocent people you arrested and go to search in the bush for those who killed the Paramount Chief; they are not living in town or the villages you burnt down. They are your own SPLA rebels! Leave the Shilluk civilians alone? What you are doing now is exactly or even worst than what the jellba army were doing to the shilluk people prior to the CPA. You are proving not to be different from them. Please don’t increase the degree of hated with your oppression of the civilians. The consequences shall never be desirable for the South if more reactions comes up.

No more shifts of oppressions in South Sudan! Enough is enough. The SPLA guns shall never become mightier than the people’s rights and justice. Even as we speak here now many people around all corners of South Sudan are only patient and suffering in silence waiting to show Kiir the exit door when the time is ripe. Ask Dr. Riek Machar and his supporters and they will tell you more on this patience-for-the-time-being. That is why they advice Ex. Gen. George Athor to take it slow until that times arrives for the real explosion against Kiir to take place.

Where is the confidence of the people on Mr. Kiir rule? Even if you see many Southerners compromising with him now, this is not going to continue in near future. The people are already fed up with his leadership incompetence and other accompanying vices. Mr. Athor might be crown as the hero of resistance to bad rule in South Sudan as those who pretend to oppose him now will be seen rallying behind him. Dr. James Okuk.

Gen. George Athor should not be blamed for rebelling. I've realized that many writers are blaming George for his standoff with pres. Salva Kiir. The practice of rebelling against a leadership is an original sin in SPLA/M. Pres. Salva Kiir did rebel against Dr. John Garang's leadership in 2004! It took the wise commanders of the army then to avoid crashing him militarily. In short one would like to say that the rebellion attitude is a flame out of control among our liberators. If the leadership is not going to repent then it will be caught by the fire! The advisory clique around the president knows how to blame others and create fears in our innocent people. In conclusion someone has said that "Only thing we learn from history is that we learn nothing from history." The liberators of yesterday are becoming oppressors of today . Yesterday's rebels are today's leaders! Paulino Deng, USA

SPLA changes impossible You cannot make changes in the army in 1 year. It takes a bit longer than that. The SPLA is more organized under Nhial D Nhial in terms of better value for money .That itself is an achievement. K. Kong, Uganda

Is SPLA a party or national army? During April 2010 Elections, voters, political parties agents, and independent candidates were intimidated by SPLA forces and denied free access to polling stations. SPLA involvement in the election process, vote counting caused more chaos in south Sudan. SPLA forgot their protection of the civilians in the southern Sudan than protecting SPLM nominated candidates.
If SPLA is a party army, how many armies will we have in south Sudan?
SPLA must stop involving themselves in the politics. SPLA forces are taking the job of the police which is in charge of law enforcement.
In every government, there is division of labor. Therefore, SPLA interference with other department job is destroying south Sudan. I wish the new SSLA to pass new law that keep Soldiers away from involving in politics. If any soldier need to be a politician, he must resign from his post and carry on with politics. Deng Lual, USA

Shilluk resistance dangerous Mr. Okuk, Your article is not straight forward in my judgment. Why're you putting blame on SPLA/M all the time while leaving your uncle, Akol and his circle clean? It doesn't make sense when you use wrong elements to seal your assertion on the weak side. The traces of all claims have nowhere to be found but a political propaganda against SPLA/M and its leaders. The SPLA is not trying to humiliate Shilluk people; they are just there like they are in any other part of South Sudan maintaining security orders. The on going disarmament is a part of security measures everywhere but torturing, beating, and other stuffs you claimed are not there unless may be through your political bias you have been preaching throughout the course of your writing. The resistance you are imposing on Shilluk people to do against SPLA is a dangerous one. Don’t stir up something you cannot or will not afford when it is real. Let Shilluks think of what is better for them rather than giving them what might be good for them. You are not Shilluk’s godfather, but a rebel and an enemy of their peace. Leave my Shilluk people alone! You always come short to be a good visionary, unitary and a trusted citizen than you had assumed since day one you started writing on the internet. Stop preaching bias my friend. Calling Kiir Mayardit a failed leader because of all the messes caused by your group is a mere imagination. Lam Akol and his inconsiderate activities are our main failures than Kiir Mayardit. And to argue less, history is our living testimony to prove that in one way or the other Kiir is not an enemy of his people. Kiir is a loving son and a dear leader who shepherds his people beyond trust. Those wealth dreamers who think of themselves than anything are our road blocks. Calling Kiir also to remove Governor Kuol Manyang because of Athor’s demand is something incomprehensible. It will never take place whether he accepts negotiation or not, Kuol Manyang will remain as governor. Abraham Gai, USA

What is the root cause of Athor's rebellion? Dear SPLM leadership Secretariat, and the Council. I am a concerned citizen of Southern Sudan due to insecurity which sprang from the defeated General George Athor. As my point of view, it is important for our government to address this fragile situation before it is out of hand as we don’t know the root cause of his rebellion because he now uses the election result as the base of his grievances of which I totally don’t agree with.
For the sake of peace to the people of Southern Sudan, I would like to request the government of Southern Sudan to take some peaceful majors to convince our brother Athor who forgot the reason why he fought against Khartoum regime. .
I hope the new leadership of our party will prioritize the need and aspiration of Southerners and their protection as main agendum in the next government plan.  Abraham Chol, Sudan

Peaceful way better Please Ladu Gore, tell your college comrade Athor to come and do it in peaceful way as you did rather than wasting valuable souls of the sons of our motherland, South Sudan, for GOD's sake. Let God open our way to Freedom. Walter Ladu, Sudan

Where is Dr. Riek Machar on the standoff? Reply to Mr. Bayak Dak Guandong On (South Sudan is in Jeopardy, but who’s to blame?
Well, Mr. Guandong, it's good that you blame Mr. Kiir, Dr. Lam and Gen. Athor for the worst situation going on now in Southern Sudan before referendum time. The good thing in your article for the first time somebody blames Kiir and Dr. Lam at the same time, always some writers blame Dr. Lam Akol alone for any thing worse happening in Southern Sudan, even if he's not involved in it. Like now some SPLM trouble makers are saying Gen Athor is supported by SPLM-DC. This happened and it was written in Arabic and English Sudanese Newspapers that Dr. Lam and Gabriel Tanging have a militia that will join Gen. Athor, do you believe this?
My brother Guandong; where is Dr. Riek? Are the president and Pagan, the Secretary General of SPLM in the case? Are you trying to say that these leaders are not involved in the current situation in Southern Sudan? You are totally wrong, Mr. Guandong.
Mr. Pagan Amum is responsible for all disagreements in SPLM party since 2006, when Dr. Lam was a foreign minister in Government of National Unity (GONU), he is the one who decided to change the ministers of (GONU) when the SPLM leadership took Dr. Lam out and Garang Alio with Tellar from Internal Affairs and Presidential Adviser. You don’t know these issues in that time. And do you know that it was the beginning of all these troubles in the SPLM party? Pagan Amum is playing these games while Mr. Kiir and his vice president Dr. Riek are keeping quiet.
You got these issues during the second national convention of SPLM in Juba 2008, and you know what happened there.
My conclusion is that you can’t blame Dr. Lam Akol for the situation going on now in the South. Up to this time they still continue accusing him although he lost the election. SPLM party must solve these issues by itself, and it has to prove to all Southerners that it's able to save security in Southern Sudan. Eng. Fascola Abdallla Ajang, Sudan

Juba next after Athor liberates Bor There is now an imminent comprehensive war in South between those loyal to either Salva Kirr or Athor Deng. The two sides are hardening their stand in the hope that the other will give up. So, who is going to benefit from this? Of course we know the answer. Neither of the belligerent parties will. Whether these confrontations are justifiable or not depend largely on the position one takes. But considering the events leading to the elections and the aftermath, one has to convince oneself that there was something in the dark against those in 'no SPLM' tickets. This culminated into Doleib Hill incidence. After successfully rigging them out of victory, Political Bureau hatched a plan to finish independent candidates one and for all to avoid threats. This started with the arrest of Ladu Gore of Central of Equatoria, Gen. Dau was ordered to leave his home state and Ajelina Teny flew to Khartoum. This left Athor Deng as the only independent still enjoying link with his support base and this warranted military intervention to arrest him by force if need be.

So is Athor Deng guilty of defending himself? I don't think so. No one has the monopoly of others. People like Makuei Lueth and Kuol Manyang should not drag Bor into their war of greed. There is no Arab here. It is George Athor, a southern Sudanese from Jonglei state like themselves. Justice Makuei calling for military crashing is easy said than implemented. Who are those they called into fighting? I don't recall the military operation he (Makuei) took apart in. The issue of Athor should not be exploited as a way of seeking political appointments in Juba. Go Athor Deng Dut go! Remove for us these exceptional thieves who are determined to remain stealing at our expense regardless of we having voted them out at the general elections. After liberating Bortown, Juba, the den of corrupt lords should be the next. The way, apart from your past military records, the marginalized south Sudanese will remember you forever. Kuol Thon, Bor

The 27th Anniversary of Army has come; this was a big day for all, the gone and living. May the souls of our martyrs rest in eternal peace.

Artist by the name Duop Pur Duop staged a song at this occasion yesterday here in Juba, a perfect contribution the talented man gave to our heroes. A number (song) is entitled 'Comrade' and call others to join me in congratulating the young man for job well done. Abakar Malek also produced one. I choke tears of joy when such moments come our away!

Mr. Duop, I have a small gift for you; call me on 0121 734 017 and at any point in Juba I will deliver it.

I challenge animals from Dinka and especially Dinka Bor to stop singing about their other counter part (animals/cows) and start to give our society meaning of people existence! Gat de-mar (Duop), thanks a million! Isaiah Abraham-Juba

Blaming Bor egoistic attitudes Mr. Chol, your article is straight forward and challenging to those who think they are the patriotic and original southerners. The case of our kinsman ATHOR is A SOUTHERN ISSUE that should be handled carefully without bias. I am supporting your argument because those soldiers who are dying now belong to the entire SOUTH, but BOR intelligentsia must be aware about their egoistic attitudes against others e.g. they always assume that land belongs to them alone.
That is why a lot of Southerners are reserved about them, in particular from among them PADANG. Deng Chuang, Malakal, Sudan

Tough situation for Dinka I disagree with you, Mr. Chol Deng Chol, because what Mr. Athor is fighting about is now clear, that he is fighting for self interest which isn't about governorship but different issue. It is about Pauolino Matip Nhail and Dr Riek Machar. So, it not about Koul Manyang vs. Athor or BOR DINKA VS NGOK DINKA. Forget about that insanity. Mr. Makuei Lueth has the right to say what he wants, so leave him alone. We Dinkas never came to this situation before, so let's see what will happen there. Makuei Kur Lual, UK

Gen. Athor be brought by force to Juba The case of General Athor Deng against SPLM need serious military engagement because it's pernicious. He has rushed to violence instead of negotiation. Who is going to listen through violence and negotiation at the same time? I condemn his several attacks and he must be brought to Juba by force. SPLA must catch him months before because the referendum is imminent. I deplore his intention because Mr. Athor failed to profess the defeat and he preferred violence instead of peaceful negotiation.

I urged SPLM to make a final decision about the Athor case, so that we can not hear it anymore. I think, it's not a bright idea for him to fight his own people. Is Athor blemishing SPLM's image or himself?
I can not relish this power greedy assumption because I'm worried about the innocent youth he will persuade on his behalf to die for no cause because of his self interest of power greed for governorship.

The frequent attacking of SPLA really infuriates me because it's the abuse of SPLM under Salva Kiir Mayardit administration and the betrayal of South Sudanese to the enemy and the international community that we can not govern ourselves. Bol D. Bol, USA

No Justice in Southern Sudan. Dr. Justin, I read your article and want to tell you that, on 3rd/5/2010 Mr. Salvatore Garang, First Undersecretary for the Government of Southern Sudan Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning was arrested for his alleged involvement in the loss of 428,790 Sudanese Pounds. Three Hours after his arrest, young men in uniform from Warrap State went to Juba North Police Station and release Mr. Salvatore Garang by force. As a result, First Legal Counsel Hon. Khan GatRoum Tut, a Nuer from Upper Nile who was handling the case is now suspended without pay by the Ministry of Legal Affairs and Constitutional Development, because he arrested a Dinka from Warrap who has stolen the Public funds. Where is the Justice? Dinka Warrap are above the law in Southern Sudan, and they are immune from arrest on corruption. How are we going to build new nation?
For your information, the prosecutor General he is from Warrap State. Dr. Josephine Lagu was targeted because she is not a Dinka. I am a Dinka, but the truth must be told. Our President Kiir has failed to control corruption, tribalism and much more. Atem Garang Atem, South Sudan

Gen, Athor should have waited till next year Gen. George Athor Deng has thrown the stone into the swam of bees in the South. In fact no one likes the way GOSS is running it politics at all. But as a matter of fact, everyone is waiting for the next year to determine our own future than see whether such a government will continue with it's politics. Gen. Athor would have waited and organized himself with his groups for that time. However, some people in the GOSS are the worst, mostly some people like Luka Biong are the source of all the mess done by Kiir. South Sudan needs some one who is well qualified enough to make decisions. Majok Aker Ayai, Sudan

Athor's case one of potential resistance You are extremely pessimistic in your articulation of the future of South Sudan. Based on the outcomes of the recent elections, Gen; Athor's case is one of the potential resistance options by the South-Sudanese people, and there are many disgruntled leaders who won't accept SPLM/A dictatorship and tyranny. So, there's a glimpse of hope to restore our civil rights and dignity, as a rigid formation pillar of South-Sudanese Nation. Julius Mwanga, Canada

Why SPLA Soldiers beating people for no reason? This is too much now for SPLA. Forces known as South Sudan army, are now becoming problematic to people in the South. There have been ongoing reports on SPLA brutalities on people. Beating SPLM Journalist in Bahr El Ghazal and many others is not good. SPLA should not take police work.
The Commander in-Chief, Salva Kirr should not allow the guerrilla warfare behaviors in the movement in the bush. Chief Abiko, USA

Doleib attack does not need military response from SPLA side. President Kiir needs to be wise enough in the way to resolve this situation. Responding it with military action from SPLA army will escalate or sustain military assault between SPLA army and defected army group alleged to be under George Athor leadership. To avoid all these kinds of bloodshed, president Kiir and chief of staff James Hoth Mai should need only to make peaceful negotiation with Mr Athor. In addition, rest of southerners need to know that George Athor is one of the SPLA top commanders which other southerners who have been disappointed by the election result can join easily. Before things get out of control, GOSS wants to find a considerable way of peaceful resolution. Dang Moses, Canada

There is no justice in south Comrade James Monyluak, I read your article where you talked about bringing General G. Athor to justice. Which Justice?

You thank God because you live in Windsor, Ontario Canada. For your information, there is no Justice in Southern Sudan. There is Dinka Warrap calling themselves the Government of Southern Sudan. I live and work in Juba and I never left Southern Sudan. President Kiir is a tribalist and he is interesting in fighting because people were sent to their areas to contest election, and after they were elected by their people, then Kiir and the SPLA/M rejected them. Where is the justice? For example, Taban Deng of Unity State did not win the Election, same to Koul Manyang, Clement Wani and Simon Kon of Upper Nile state. All of these Governors were brought by Kiir and his group. We the people of Southern Sudan now have a rebel 7 month before our independence in 2011. Like Sudan had a rebel 4 months before the independence in 1956. Many people are with General Athor even the SPLA, that is why he's still there. We will get our independence in 2011 without George Athor, but Kiir will not complete his 5 years as the president of Southern Sudan. Let him rule until January 10/2011. Atem Garang Atem, Juba

"Law Avoids Personal Clash." To uncles all in SPLA/M have to remember how Kapoeta was captured by the enemy in 1992. What was wrong, why a large SPLA/M force did not fight?

The Bullets that Athor Deng Dut have fired, no one among those have fire by their hands Kiir, Kuol, Gier, Kuol Dim, Ping, Mijak and Oyai.
Not instructing Soldiers and falling behind without smelling the bullets' dirt. Athor Deng know all this as I know him personally in 1992 at SPLA/M old Itang. Athor was always in the frontline. Personal interest should be by Law, without favore to anyone. Athor Deng has a right to defend himself. He needs to be welcome back peacefully without provoking him. If not this is the end of some many lives in south. And it will be miserable to all of us in SPLA/M.

SPLA/M should learn from old mistakes they have done since the creation of SPLA/M. It was this kind of simple election that caused the Army in Acuwa/Itang.Bilpham attack; where Garang ordered an attack on Akuot, Gai Tut group. It's bloody. Kiir was there if he could remind them back them. Gieth de Chol is Concerned Sudan citizen living in Alberta Canada

Billions of Congratulation to the leadership of Western Equatoria state As I wrote earlier in this column the people of Southern Sudan deserve congratulations for the spirit of peace and democracy that they have demonstrated during the recent elections. Bravo once again for all of us in Southern Sudan.

Last night the Governor Elect of Western Equatoria State Bangazi Joseph Boksoro was interviewed in SSTV by Moyiga Nduru about his vision and program as the next governor of Western Equatoria State. Although I know nothing about the man, I believe that Boksoro will be able to lead the people of Western Equatoria effectively if he will do what he said last night in that interview.

The most striking issue that triggered me to write this article is what the Governor elect said about the true spirit of democracy shown by Jemma Nunu, the caretaker governor when the result of election was announced in favor of the governor elect.

According to Bangazi, Jemma Nunu congratulated the governor elect and assured him that she will take care of his security until his official inauguration. This is the true democracy that we should adopt.

Billions of congratulations to the people of Western Equatoria in general and to Jemma in particular for having proved to the whole world that she is really for true democratic transformation as shown by her attitudes towards the governor elect Boksoro. I don’t know how many contestants have congratulated each other after the announcement of results?! Dr. Thuou Loi Cingoth, South Sudan

Shame on you, Athor Deng How'd the situation be complicated if others tribes who are non-Dinka took up arms like what you are doing in the South? You are defeated politically, is there a point for you to kill your own people whom you thought to govern? What a hopeless leader you are and no wise person will follow you. Majok Aker Ayai, Rumbek

Dr. Nyaba Is Hunting For a Ministry On Dr. Lam's Expense: Who doesn't know that Dr. Peter Adwok Nyaba has learnt to get a ministerial position from Mr. Salva Kiir using Dr. Lam Akol's enmity as his ladder? Who doesn't know that Dr. Nyaba has no political support and a base in the Shilluk land except the Reth of the Shilluk who sympathizes with him for one reason or another? It was so laughable for Dr. Nyaba to call Dr. Lam Akol a mobile politician when it is known too that he himself (Dr. Nyaba) has been known as a mobile politician even without principles except opportunism. Can Dr. Nyaba deny that he was not part of the 1991 SPLM/A split on the side of Nasir Faction? Can Dr. Nyaba deny that he was no longer a SPLM/A member when he left the Nasir Faction and started doing NGOs and Consultancy work in Nairobi till the signing of the CPA in 2005? Can Dr. Nyaba deny that he left the SPLM again when he contested in the recently concluded April elections as an independent candidate for gubernatorial post in Upper Nile State? And Does Dr. Nyaba has any respect for Mr. Salva Kiir when he has been heard several times saying that Mr. Kiir has nothing in his head except his Cowboy Hut, and is only fit to be called a Bahr El Ghazal's Dinka Sultan, not a leader of Southern Sudan? Please Dr. Peter Adwok Nyaba, could you quietly pretend to be Kiir loyalist and seek a ministerial position from him without throwing stones at Dr. Lam and the Shilluk Community? Don't put stone on Dr. Lam's and his supporters' mighty hands when you are known to be wearing a glassy hut and shoes. Otherwise, your are already out of the next Kiir's government even if you pretend to be a loyalist to him using the Reth of Shilluk as your shield. Mr. Kiir knows that a wavering loyalist is never reliable and it is better to deal with unwavering opponent like Dr. Lam Akol and others. Stay Well. Dr. James Okuk.

Gen. George Athor must think twice. He will soon regret his decision. In the first place he was persuaded by many people in southern Sudan to reconsider his decision of running as an independent candidate. He refused to do so. He lost to General Kuol Manyang and now is trying to cause violence. The SPLA and GOSS security as well as police forces must deal with him accordingly. Thon Akau, USA

Why are we fighting? This is not right for us to fight each other at this time, who is our enemy? Who're we supposed to fight with? Why are we fighting? Should it be the right time to fight each other? May God who created South Sudan must recreate new hearts in South Sudanese people to love each other, to love their country. Lord come to our mid and save us as you saved your people long time ago. Amen amen and amen God will save south Sudan soon not later. Paul Apok, Renk, South Sudan

Angelina Teny has political right to be governor. Mr. Majok Aker Ayai from Rumbek, I think you are politically naive. There is nothing wrong with Dr. Riek Machar being the Vice President while his wife, Angelina Teny, competing to be the governor of Unity state at the same time
Angelina Teny has her full right as a political figure to compete for any post including the presidency even if her husband is Vice President of GOSS.
Don't take the government/politics like a family/social issue. Late John Garang was the chairman of SPLM/A while Rebecca Nyandeng was the chairlady of War widows and orphans at the same time. Then how did you feel about it?
It is not new in politics even in Western world that family members can hold different political positions. Here in the US George W. Bush was the US President while his brother was the governor of Florida state.
The current minister of Animal Resources and Fisheries in GOSS, Dr. Festa Kumba, holds the post while his wife, Jemma Nunu Kumba, was the governor of Western Equatoria state at the same time.
Also don't forget that Angelina Teny has been the state minister of Energy and Mining in GONU. What is the difference with being a governor?
It is politically allowed in the whole world that family members can hold different portfolios at least at different levels of government. So, there is nothing wrong when Angelina Teny wanted to become governor while her husband, Dr. Riek Machar is Vice President. Gatkuoth Deng, USA

Rebecca no longer First Lady I thought the title or the name 'mother of the nation" and  "First Lady" go to the wives of the current heads of the states all over world and including South Sudan. My question is, has the situation on the ground changed? What has become of Madame Kiir, is she not our "first lady" and the to-be "mother of nation" that is going to be born in January next year? I think we must not robbed the wife of our President from such tittles. Mama Rebecca had had her chance and history has recorded that.
You see I am raising this issue simply by refusing to leave such titles or names make or turn us to be dictators, we will always want to be what we think what we want to be but not the reality on the ground. You see democracy also has to do with such kind of behavior, it has to do with whether you can allow someone to take over from you if your time is up, and the the time of Mama Rebecca is gone. She must join and form a sort of former first ladies of South Sudan Association (FFSOSUA) to work for the interest of South and to prepare to welcome the wife of President Salva Kiir into it after five years from now. Andy Murusal, Sudan

Nyandeng should learn from former First Ladies It is very disturbing how Madam Rebecca Nyandeng de Mabior has been misbehaving these days. She is expected to remain a mother of this yet to be born nation. Her contribution to the calmness that followed the death of her husband, late Dr. John Garang de Mabior was highly appreciated by all the Sudanese people and the world at large.

However, Rebecca Nyandeng's current behavior is worrisome. Her recent statements following the elections are divisive and ill-intended. She should have been the first to defend the rights of the people of South Sudan to freely and fairly choose their leaders if she really loved her late husband who died in defense of such rights.

Going against winning, but forced to lose, independent candidates like Gen. Alfred Lado Gore and the rest is unwanted. It is very unfortunate that she conspired to rig Gore's votes with mere hatred that Gore allegedly didn't want John Garang's tomb (body) in Juba, or issues of land, etc. This is a very serious issue that will put Nyandeng in very low position and strip herself of the respect accorded to her by the citizens of Central Equatoria state.

I advise Madam Rebecca Nyandeng to learn from how the former First Ladies in South Sudan were conducting themselves. How the former First Ladies or wives of leaders who became Presidents of South Sudan under different regional governments like Gen. Joseph Lagu, Abel Alier, Riek Machar, Riek Gai Kok, Gatluak Deng and even the current First Lady, the wife of Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit, have had conducted themselves publicly and in politics.

Let us not rock the boat before it reaches the shore. We are not independent yet where we can afford to forget what is ahead of us. We want to become independent and democratic and this needs spirit of love by the current or future mothers of this nation. Raan Naath, South Sudan

Did Nyandeng really stoop so low against Gen. Lado Gore? It's widely being alleged and speculated in Juba that Dr. Garang's widow, Rebecca Nyandeng, (photo, right) had very strongly warned Pres. Kiir that should independent candidate for governor of Central Equatoria, Gen. Lado Gore (photo, left), is 'allowed' to win and become governor in Juba, the 'other of the nation' vowed she would 'completely undress herself' and 'personally exhume her husband's body and take it to her home in Bor.' Nyandeng's alleged venomous hatred and objection against Lado Gore is allegedly attributed to alleged imputations from his opponents that Lado Gore didn't like Garang's grave in Juba. Could these innuendos be the motivation of Nyandeng's aggressively animated opposition against Lado Gore in spite of not being a native of Central Equatoria state? It's widely known that the former First Lady has vast business interests including numerous land plots in Juba.
Gen. Lado Gore, a former close friend of Garang and SPLM ideologue and founder, was inexplicably imprisoned in absolute isolation for a long time during the war by Garang. Is there still an unresolved enmity from the First Mother-of-South Sudan? Let the public know!! SSN

Self -betrayed Nuer Leaders When we think of justice, we think of fairness that has traditionally been associated with fundamental rights such as human rights, right to vote, and freedom of speech. But this is not the case in Sudan as whole and in South Sudan in particular. This election indicated that, the country is still in medieval age, where a strong man takes over a weak person's property. It is exactly what is happening now in Unity State, in which it government steals people's will during daylight. This well-delivered scenario should not be considered as an unexpected scenario to most of you in this forum, since Mr. Should Kur sent out unbelievable number of Paraing county voters while registered voters in National Election Commission suggested contrary to what should was suggested.

Folks, this is a beginning of establishment of Dinka monarchy through self-betrayed leaders in Nuer areas in general and in Western Nuer in particular. There are three scenarios behind Mr. Taban's victory: First, to create a confusion between local and National Election Commission to speak differently. Second, then, to make a compromise with the first announcement or if not then, Kiir will step in as president to appoint next governor as his wishes. Thirdly, and the most dangerous one is to escalate violence in Unity State which means more killing and losing more civilians' lives. I don't how many time for a thief to steal and be called a thief. I think one time is enough to qualify as a thief and deserves a long time jail. If SPLM steals people's will, what do you think it will deserve in long run? I know one thing if you associated with a thief you are both entitled of the same company. SPLA& NCP are now identical of sharing  the same behaviors. Koang B. Chol, USA

Leaders not sworn by God It's really very sad to see leaders who claimed to have been fighting for democracy turn against democracy. First of all, they should bear in their minds that they were not sworn by God in order for them to cling to power. However, let those who are defeated accept the results of their defeats, period. Peter Osita, Sudan

Who are the losers in 2010 South Sudan elections? The reports coming from Juba this week concerning the tension and security situation in the city are not encouraging. The most absurd thing in these reports is the comment made by some SPLM officials and their supporters that in most elections there are always "losers" and "winners" and urged the losers to accept defeat in the April election.
They said the deployment of military, police force, and security personal on the streets of Juba is to ensure that peace and order is maintained in case the candidate expected to lose may want to cause chaos when the election results are announced.
However, what is missing in these remarks is that it didn't tell us (the readers) who’s the loser and who’s the winner of Central Equatoria State Governor election. If the SPLM turns a blind eye to the elections results across South Sudan where most of its party members are losing the elections to the independent candidates, then the "losers" who they have been talking about are the independent candidates; but if the independent candidates are the ones winning as is clearly known all over the world, then SPLM are the "losers" and there is no need for the ruling party to deploy troops on the already safe streets  which SPLM accomplice would like to portray differently.
SPLM is free to protect its illegitimate tribal movement and tribal party with its tribal military, tribal police force, and tribal security personal on people's city like Juba but they should not waste our time and that of the world that their members have won elections anywhere in South Sudan.
The decision SPLM will make on these elections whether in their favour or the people of South Sudan, will mean the end of the tribal movement or tribal party which had been a curse and source of misery in the contemporary history of South Sudan.
We shall continue to condemn any person or government that is being imposed on us in order to distract our goal for the achievement of Independent South Sudan to be declared in the upcoming referendum, even if it takes another 50 years. Laku Modi Tombe, Canada

What New Sudan stands for Hey Raan, you fall short of getting the context of New Sudan vision. Instead you blow it up with mere lack of knowledge. It means SUDAN with PEACE, EQUALITY AND UNITY...Sudan  ruled by Arab Muslims does not give every citizen his rights to peace, equality and Unity. We were not equal in Sudan and even now we are not treated by our government equally. That's what the new Sudan stands for whether it was under socialism or capitalism. D. Banziel, Finland

Kenya-style election chaos in South? Delaying the elections results announcement will increase and exaggerate the polling corruption. As the consequences of incapable work the current government has done for 5yrs, everyone knows pretty sure that most of who carried out corruption in the country must lose any post they contested for at all levels. Besides, if violence is the best choice in the understanding of Kirr's political team, let them bring down the aim of 21yrs struggle and CPA signed by Dr. John Garang de Mabior to the negative point by causing the same situation that happened in Kenya and Iran. Moreover, ballot rigging, refusing to give up positions for winners, etc, are all infractions of electoral rules and the country laws as well. However, the electoral committee needs to favor their work to implement or handle  the election procedure in the right way even though they are threatened by the despotic rule because one big mistake this government made was the call of election in the first place. What if Dr. John is alive to day, the same scenarios could arise or no? If yes, can he handle them by putting losing personnel in different positions, using any mechanism that can save the interests of southerners for referendum or let people fight over positions is happening now? Moses Dang Gatluak, Canada

SPLA is a tool used SPLM I am writing mainly to remind comrade Lt.-Gen. Hoth Mai that the SPLA was deeply involved in the election process and I have never heard your voice denouncing or giving orders for them to keep away from politics. The facts on the ground were that had it not been because of the SPLA, all the SPLM nominees would have fallen like the Berlin wall. The SPLA is a Southern and non-partisan army as per the CPA. They are supposed to safeguard us from external invasion. They have become a tool used by the the SPLM politicians (their Former commanders) to usurp power. Please, train them to respect the Southern masses. Introduce penal and disciplinary codes just like it was during the war. Peter Pal, Sudan

SPLM has never been separatist We are confused or do not want to get the truth correct. The problems of South Sudan started long ago before the 1983 SPLM/A revolution. In the 1950s Southern Sudanese started a war based on the fact that in 1947 and during those days the British, the Egyptians and the Sudanese Arabs cheated on the Southern Sudanese and as such the revolution spirit was planted in the heart of all South Sudanese during that time. In August 1955 the first bullet of the Independence of Southern Sudan was shot and that started the long struggle of the people of Southern Sudan for an Independent Country which hopefully will be realized in January 2011. It has never been the official policy of the SPLM/A to fight for independent Southern Sudan, SPLM/A killed almost all those leaders who were for such glorious ideas among them was Joseph Oduho. Whether the split of 1991 was the start of pushing SPLM/A to accept the wish and aspiration of the Southern Sudan is left for history to judge. What we know is that SPLM/A has never been a separatist movement like our earlier movements which some of us will want to cover under the carpet. History will not forget the liberation war that was fought for South Sudan in the 1950s,1960s and 1970s which was clearly for our own independent country (Southern Sudan). The current trend in the South Sudan is  to redraft history to show that SPLM/A is for Southern Sudan independence, this is not true and will not always be true for we all know the manifesto of the SPLM/A and we know who killed the separats in the bushes during the war, those who died for separation of the South Sudan are our real hero, we will not allow history to be distorted to serve the interest of looters in GOSS. We have voted for GOSS during this election because we know that they have been forced to accept the self determination during the war and that is what we want and will  make sure that they stick to that as it is not easy to manipulate us these days. Andy Murusal, A die hard Separatist Southern Sudanese, Khartoum, Sudan

Enjoying 'New Sudan' Well, to all the euphoric traitors who mock the vision of New Sudan, be informed that "New Sudan" as an ideology was the prerequisite of all you are enjoying today. Ariic, South Sudan

New Sudan without Garang alive When war started in South Sudan many people joined the revolution with different ideas but our leader Dr. Garang taught the movement to believe the idea of New Sudan. And as you said our late Garang based the idea of new Sudan according to his existence but for his absence no one can answer this question. Jacob T. Mayom, Sudan

New Northern Sudan Vision on-going The struggle for the New Northern Sudan Vision has already been started and it has began and is being wagged and championed by likes of Comrade Yasir Arman, with his Northern Arabs-Africans, Muslims, Christians and Animists colleagues in the Northern Sector even if the South Sudan shall gain its independence through the plebiscite for Self Determination.
I can assure that this struggle for the New Northern Sudan Vision is be a on-going struggle which shall end with total victory from the Northern Sector with the tactical alliance and cooperation with the moderate Muslims who still believe in the democracy and secularism in the Northern Sudan. And especially those secular Muslims Arabs who want to end this chronic general marginalization and imposed Sharia Islamic Laws by dictator Gaafar Numerii in 1983. Peter O. Karlo, USA

New Sudan Vision Has Gone With Garang The philosophy of New Sudan was confusing to the southerners at the start and was never understood up till now. Because of that, differences of opinion sprang up in the upper top echelon headed by Dr. John Garang. For fear of Garang, it was tough for the people to raise their doubts of the impossibility of New Sudan.

People who had the audacity to question Dr. John Garang’s idea ended up splitting away in 1991; otherwise, they were waiting for detention in stinky prison or worse, firing squat. Dr. Riek Machar never agreed with the ideology of New Sudan because he knows that it is impossible to achieve. We had fought many wars and without CPA, we would still be in the bush fighting as I’m writing this article.

After his untimely death [Garang], the ideology of New Sudan has seen no attention whatsoever. His predecessor has pledged to follow Dr. John Garang foot steps; it seems that his foot steps become too big for Kiir to fill. I believe Kiir has seen the impossibility of achieving the ideology of New Sudan given the circumstances at hand. With northern Sudanese aiming at converting everyone to Islam, the chances of New Sudan becomes slim to none.

At this stage, it won’t be a mistake to conclude that the New Sudan vision has gone down the drain with its originator – Dr. John Garang. Unless some miracles ensue, this is the end of New Sudan vision. I think that if anyone other than Dr. John Garang was interested in the belief of New Sudan, we would have achieved this long time ago. As far as I know, southerners are just some nomadic who can be just converted to Islamic without argument. This is the only thing that is running in the minds of our brothers in the north.

There is no single person in the north that ever thought about New Sudan or United Sudan. They just like to say the name but no one truly means it.
Everyone in the northern is busy trying to convert people between their subdivided Muslim religions. They have no time for New Sudan.

In reality, Unity in Sudan is unachievable idea not to waste time about. Imagine people who live in the same nation and can’t intermarriage. What does that tell you? It conveys a clear message that there is no unity. Intermarriage if permitted would bridge the gap and bound us into strong unity. I strongly agree with people who humbly want a separate nation. GatCharwearbol, USA

SPLA should know their duty So far SPLA did not know their role as general public protectors to fight only against attackers but NOT interfere with politics or civilian affairs. Who would have a time to teach them to let them know their proper role and duty?
Government was and still busy with sucking public money and on the same public they turned SPLA as their watch dogs even if they are hungry until they can sometime turned against their masters and eat them alive.
Election is a civil role and must be conducted by civilized citizens who know, follow and respect the laws set that purpose. This is the role of police force.
Nothing else but fear alone controlling the hearts of Mr. Kiir and his followers only to protect their own interest not the people of South Sudan ever.
It is God alone who knows where we’re heading?! And He will make the possible means available to recue His people from this dilemma. Paul Jwokdoch, Australia

Veteran means long-serving or experienced Mr. Chris Marol has limited his understanding of the word "veteran" to the military parlance. Yet anybody who has served in any field for a long time and has gained enough experience in his/her field can be called a veteran. Thus, we have a veteran soldier, veteran medical doctor, veteran politician, etc. Those who called Bona Malual a veteran implied his political career and Not military as Chris would like to imagine. Please, check your vocabulary before posting to public forums because you only insult yourself by such erroneous comments. Arual Deng Arual, UK

The Shocking news from Warrap State, South Sudan
Fellow countrymen, it is indeed regrettable that the events described in Uncle Bona Malual’s letter are terribly shocking and disgusting. Wait a minute! What is really happening? How on earth do we want the world to look at us?

There is something fundamentally wrong with our people and believe me, until we understand that what we are doing is not the right way of running a country, then we are already in for troubles.

I thought that this issue of having the military intimidating people and especially during this particular elections was a thing already addressed and tackled. But it seems that some of our military personnel are terribly hooked up in a mindset that can hardly be rectified. Sadly enough, as things are supposed to change for the best, it’s quite apparent, now that, much and thorough cropping is needed because our current Army is in no any way near to professionalism.

Anyway, since we have all agreed to be laughing stocks to the entire world, and then let it be. I don’t think that Uncle Bona Malual made up this story when wrote, “Our two elections agents were each handcuffed and chain-tied to each other by the neck, an act that is reminiscent of the old slavery era.”

Whether we like it or not, we need to abide by international laws, ethics and codes of conduct. The whole country of the Sudan is under international surveillance, especially so during this election days and on wards. However, I don’t real understand what type of people are really running our affairs. Of course it wouldn’t surprise me at all if someone and especially so from Warrap State decides to shout at me to shut up. After all who am I to talk about Warrap whether they are cuffed or chained? But are they not supposed to be fellow southerners like us? Aren’t we our brothers’ keepers? Dr: Justin Ambago Ramba, MD. UK.

Remembering Dr. John I am so grateful to congratulate my south Sudanese people for remembering our fallen heroes and as a matter of fact, Dr John was a great leader who brought us peace and my advice to my people is that we need peace in our states to avoid tribal conflicts and look forward for our referendum. Moses Towongo, South Sudan

Joining mainstream Eng. Mr. Charles Kisanga, thank you so much, you are speaking louder to us around the globe. Please join your mainstream in the movement with all your heart for our struggle is not to benefit others, but ourselves (South Sudanese). We had been nothing to the northerners politically, socially, economically, culturally, in term of dignity, and we had no development for long time. The northerners had been taking our resources from the land of the south for the development of the north. Shame on Lam Akol. Ariik Chol Ariik, Canada

Where were you during the war? Mr. Urbano you are an intellectual and one would have expected you to reason better than a street urchin like this. Your support for Dr. Lam Akol should not arrest your intellectual faculties. Is ‘for how long will Dinka SPLA protect you?’ meant to be a threat on my life? I may rightly conclude that you are one of the terrorists who gunned down Kwanyireth Oyath and his entourage. In this connection I have the means to protect myself and I am coming to Malakal, let me see what you and your ilk will do. Coward!!!!. Where were you during the war? Peter Adwok Nyaba

SPLA is not Dinka Urbano Tipo, you are wrong about for how long will Dinka-SPLA protect Dr. Adwok Nyaba: You are deeply indoctrinated and brainwashed by Dr. Akol’s ideology which says “let us destroy Dinka” instead of “let us free ourselves.” It is wrong to say that the problem in Collo land is a conspiracy made by Dinka against you and being executed by Dr. Nyaba. First of all, SPLA is not protecting Dr. Nyaba, but his views matched SPLA’s and Southern interest than the short glory you are pursuing in Khartoum. If false is truth like you said, then the SPLM-DC is protecting Arabs and slavery ideals from ending in Sudan. Dr. Nyaba has right to say what is good for him and Collo people as leader, an intellectual and loyal person to Southern party. By no way he is not an obstacle to you and he will never have two heads in one plan to destroy Collo people. His personal goal is freedom which sets on the merit of love, equality and success for all than individual desire you are milking. Where did you get Dinka-SPLA protection and a plan against Collo?
Second to that, SPLA is not Dinka as whole in a real sense, but a combination of all tribes in the South, including Collo people. Dinka never dominate others nor intend to invade other tribes in the South. They are people of no bias, and their identity should not be misused for political wishes. As you are barking on how is the separation of South Sudan must come against Dinka, it is quite true that it will be a different story when the independence of South Sudan is achieved; we will be in a stunned state on how things will appear. You mark my word! People will see true government acting without compromise than that claimed Dinka-SPLA you are hammering. And the Dinka tribe will continue to contribute positively to the cause and freedom beyond glory, though not in the so called “united Sudan” again. Your narrow views on this subject are mock attacks on Dinka for unusual politics, which is obvious hate. The issue is about Dr. Lam and his unclear position since the inception of the movement; however, it is not Dinka vs. Collo in the political arena. Dr. Lam Akol is not anything to us but a man of his own guilt in the history of our struggle. Who cares about him! Collo land is not Dr. Akol Lam’s mother birthright to own it by himself with no one else with that right, but native people collectively have rights to own it. It is now clear that you are following the path of a wrong guy who has no magic luck in his personal trying to turn things into his way. I am so sorry that you’re falling into the hole of unpopular Dr. Akol Lam. You are dead wrong in preaching misconception ideals for failure.  Abraham, Gai, USA

Falling into the Arab net our oil money has become a thread to us these days, making our southern think-tanks to fall into Arab net. A few weeks ago one of our prominent and architect of self determination, Dr lam akol (SPLM-DC chairman) declared himself as a unionist and today Dr Justin Ambago revealed to us another prominent southern intellectual, Dr Toby Madut (Chairman of SANU) who also fell into the same ambush of unionist camp. But what really surprises me in these people is their justifications to their reservation for the southern independence. How can they assess the future of southern Sudan on the failure of SPLM/A? How can they endanger the lives of millions of people on the pretext of sustaining their life and the life of their children? I personally ask these what so called unionist, please allow the people this time to decide for their own destiny, since God created south Sudan. It used to be you the politicians deciding for this poor people. I'm not a SPLM/A member but I strongly give credit to them for allowing us southerners to decide for our own destiny. We are ready to  pay a prize for independence rather than for unity that we had for the last five decades.
Regarding the our religious leader, these people we owe them great respect and love. The church was/is with us all these times of southern history and they play a great role in it, the church had been with southern people without any distinction of religion when every one had abandoned us to this grand sons of Arabian peninsula traders, I think people in government controlled areas did not forget this reality. When they take these people's stand, independence) as claimed by Dr Toby, is not out of nothing but because they know and understood the suffering of the people more than any southern politicians. We pray that may God protect them until they witness a total freedom to their people. Stephen Pitya Lako, Sudan

Homage to John Garang de Mabior, Born on June 23, 1945 and fallen heroes:

Died in air crash, July 30, 2005.

                    By Gabriel Makuei Tor

In pain, with the loss of a man, of no equivalent

His intelligence, His freedom-giving wisdom,

Sweet and the only one sweet song of the oppressed.

The man of the land, our stand to lean on

Sweet, were the days - we live and stand with you for sure.

As nation we lost you, like a caring father, you were.

When the Sea waves, rise high above the Sea level.

Your smartness kept us secured - holding nose above waters,

Your healthy decisions, your golden mind, your deep rooted legs

Your courageous heart - being our first weapon, our shield of 22 years

Now that you have died, how do I mourn, with dry eyes with no tears to shed?

The eyes, which have been shedding tears for a century now.

When the wild fires of Cush burned, you stood the ground,

You rescued your comrades; you hid the seeds of nations.

You resist the stigma, driven by the food-hired geese,

You restored our integrity, you made the struggle true.

You set us free, you paid the full price

We remain to take positions - the struggle continues.

Now that you kissed the earth

Not in vein, have you gone for

Never taken for granted, the service

That cut your life short, in your graveyard

Rest in peace, with our spirits and memories

You still live, in the minds and hearts of millions

                                                                    Among us.

Confuting the Letter Written by Joseph Marco Entitled: “The Shilluk Kingdom Today: Challenging Dinka Invaders.” To begin with, I would like to correct Mr. Joseph Marco for claiming that Paweny Dinka of Pigi County is part of Ngok Lual E Yak. Paweny is part of Ruweng (a smaller sub-division of Padang which is made up of Panaruu of Panrieng County; Alor of Biennom County in Unity State and Paweny of Piji County in Jonglei State). Both Ngok Lual E Yak and Paweny as well as Alor, Panaruu, Ager, Nyiel, Dongjol, Abialiang, Luach, Thoi, Rut and Abyei makes up Greater Padang Dinka. With 8 counties in the country and over half a million people as per the discredited census, it is the second largest Dinka group after Dinka of Bhar El Ghazal. Going by current political division, Padang is found in Jonglei (Paweny, Thoi, Rut and Luach), Upper Nile (Ngok, Ager, Dongjol, Abialiang and Ager), Unity (Biennom and Panaruu) and Abyei.

This is the right information for you to digest whether you like or not. It is wise to understand the demographic composition of your neighbours instead of fabricating and misleading other readers.

If we were to go back to the 16th century to set the borders of tribes in South Sudan, then we must set our borders with the North, which I think is a priority. The adopted or honorary Arabs as put correctly by Dr. Francis Mading Deng in his book (The War of Visions in Sudan) must return to the Middle East because they never shared a border with us. The Luos, Maasai, Kalenjin, Teso, Turkana, Samburu of Kenya who are believed to have migrated from Sudan will be relocated to Sudan. The Acholi, Karamajong and other River Lakes Nilotes of Uganda must return to Sudan because they were in Sudan in 16th century or earlier. We can even claim Barack Obama of United States of America and crown him as the President of Sudan because his dad is a Luo. Since Luos migrated to Kenya from Sudan, then Obama is a Sudanese who has a right to claim his ancestral homeland of Bhar El Ghazal. But the question is; where would those inhabiting those localities relocate if we are go to by your assumption that the current land occupied by Paweny belonged to Shilluk in the early 16th Century?

Well, the land occupied by Shilluk in the West Bank of Nile was not theirs in the first place. I believe some people lived in that land. However, due to migration and natural factors, they could not live there any more. Mr. Joseph Marco may need to ask his community to relocate from Shilluk Kingdom because that land belonged to another tribe in the 16th century or earlier.

I think the writer does not even know what he is talking about. This is what he wrote: “The Shilluk Land (Piny Collo) boundaries were set by King Gwang(Papiti Yor Akoc) from all the corners with their neighbours to the East, West, North and South. In the area being disputed now, the boundary is 16 miles from the banks of Khor Atar and Khor Fulus going eastward into the bush.” Joseph Marco, SSN

Seriously, was Joseph born in Sudan or he read books? What political authority does the King of Shilluk have to set the borders? Joseph seems to be fabricating that Shilluk is bordering Nuers of Ayod and Fangak. This is hypocrisy of the highest order and lack of geographical knowledge of the South. In fact, the Shilluk of Tonga are the only ones bordering Laak (Fangak). This is the only border shared by Nuers and Shilluk unless the guy wants to set new boundaries. I was born in Atar, which is part of Piji County. I am wondering where Joseph would want me to relocate. I believe in migration and nomadic life style of many Sudanese tribes that took them to their current lands. It was not a mistake to migrate centuries ago. However, that migration should not used as a tool for scapegoating others and branding them as squatters/invaders. It is a brand that no one wants to carry. The only invaders who came to Sudan are Arabs. The came as traders and settled. We can’t even tell them to leave Sudan because their ancestral land has been taken up by other immigrants.

Bottom-line: Let Shilluk vacate their current territory because they settled there as a result of migration, natural disasters, wars and other unavoidable circumstances. They were not thrown from heaven and settled in Upper Nile. Dhieu Dok Minyang, Calgary Canada

Manna Shall not Fall to South Even if All Defect to SPLM: What will Southern Sudan gain at the end of the day if all have to declare their allegiance to Salva Kiir, Pagan Amum and Ann Itto? I am tempted not say allegiance to the SPLM because almost all those nomads and their jubilant receptionists at the SPLM Sub-Headquarters in Juba or elsewhere don't know how to put into practice the SPLM vision as the people would love to see it. Many South Sudanese people, and majority of SPLM members, are not only wonderful but also thrilling sycophants as far as political competence is concerned. They are very excellent in not knowing their priorities and objectives, prima facie. That is why you find nothing moving on positively in  Southern Sudan  because many people, especially those who call themselves leaders are very attractive in negatives of destructions. True and really true, even if the SPLM-DC disappears tomorrow after all its members declare their defection to the SPLM and given hero welcome in Juba, Malaka, Renk, Wau, Marial Bai, Rumbek, Mading Bor, Bentieu, Torit, Yambio, Yei, etc; will the current bad situation change to good one under the SPLM bad governance in the South? I don't think so and nothing new will fall down like Moses' manna from the Sinai desert, except for the SPLM and GoSS treasurers (Dr. Luka Biong and Mr. Deng Athorbei) to pay tickets and accommodate the new comers in hotels (who actually are never new as they are already well known) and then call press to write news articles on the fiasco and insult Dr. Lam as an act of humiliation. Do you know how much it has caused the SPLM to convince the former SPLM-DC's SG and Deputy Chairman and the company to defect and go to Juba to stay in a hotel and drink much bear, whisky and nyamachoma (burnt meat) on SPLM and GoSS monies without budgets? I don't think it is much less than thousands of dollars and Sudanese pounds. God have mercy on South Sudan and its poor people who are just neglected because of favoring foolishly the political prostitutes for no value! Let me cry instead of laughing!!! Dr. James Okuk

The Shilluk Kingdom Today: Challenging Dinka 'invaders' The so called “Paweny Dinka” getting a county at Pijio is a mockery. These Dinkas are part of the Ngok de Lual Yaak of Abong or Bayliet. They happen to be where they are now as a result of the Mahdist State which invaded their area in search of slaves. They escaped following the Sobat south –westwards to find themselves where they are now. The true neighbors of the Shilluk (Collo) from Pijio to Tonga on the eastern Nile are the various Nuer clans of Ayod, Fangak(Gawer), Laak etc..

The Shilluk Land(Piny Collo) boundaries were set by King Gwang(Papiti Yor Akoc) from all the corners with their neighbors to the East, West, North and South. In the area being disputed now, the boundary is 16 miles from the banks of Khor Atar and Khor Fulus going eastward into the bush.

The creation of Jongeli State by the May government of Numeri was welcomed as a means of decentralization of power. What is not welcome is the confiscation of Shilluk lands east of the Nile without any justification. Can Jongeli not include Shilluks in the same way as it includes Nuers,Dinkas, Anuaks and Murles?

The Shilluks in these confiscated areas do not recognize the Paweny as the original inhabitants. They were not there when the Shilluks fought the Funj over those lands in early sixteen century. Proper arbitration should take place to avoid instability in these lands. Joseph Marco

Southern Sudanese destiny is here! As we celebrate the newest sovereign nation of southern Sudan come 9th January 2011. Let us all take the time to reflect on that sentiment which must unite us as southerners. A deep and abiding love for our nation.
Let's look at the history of the southern Sudan and seriously assess that which will transpires over the years that lies ahead. From this let us embrace those elements which made us strong and reject that destroy us. Let us understand that while we are all proud members of individual tribes with unique and diverse cultural norms. We are bound together as one geographical Free State with purpose and place in this continent of Africa.

Now more so than ever before, we are being called upon to cast our vote wisely in the upcoming referendum come 9th January 2011. Determine your destiny and never be overshadowed by the meantime gifts which will take away your rights; to serve, help and heal the atrocities committed by the Khartoum government during the struggle.

Fellow citizens, the future of our nation is as much our responsibility as that of our families, friends and leaders back home. We either choose to tear it apart and destroy it or unites our efforts to help build and guide it towards the realization of it potential as the richest newly nation in Africa. Long live SPLM/SPLA! Bior Gibson

Speaker Wani Igga misquoted I think Speaker James Wani Igga was misquoted by reporters because he is a man who I can trust that can not make a deal with Bashir. Majok Aker Ayai, Sudan

Dr. Nyaba is Fond of Standing on the Wrong Side of History: Dear Okuc P Awol, thank you for your unwavering stand in the interest of Collo People. Let Dr. Peter Adwok Nyaba not forget that his destruction history on the Collo Kingdom is still fresh and kept alive in  the people’s memory. That is why he fears and hates SPLM-DC and Dr. Lam Akol to death. It is to be recalled here that following the 31st October, 2003 declaration of merger between SPLM-United and SPLM/A, for sustainable peace in Sudan, the Government of Sudan (GoS) and its allied militia forces caused successive insecurity situations in the whole Shilluk Kingdom with the backing of some Collo politicians, exactly like what is happening now when some Collo politicians are helping the SPLA to kill the innocent people and cleanse them ethnically as well as looting their properties. About 121,900 people were displaced after their villages were burnt and some of their relatives killed in Papwojo, Nyibanyo, Nyijwado, Dinyo, Nyilwak, Obay, Pakang, Adodo, Awajwok and Alaki, the village of His Majesty Kwongo Dak Padeit. The UN agencies and NGOs doing humanitarian work were expelled from the Collo area by the killing government-militia forces so that they don't help the people to survive. Dr. Nyaba was known to have been lobbying seriously in Nairobi to see to it that the Collo kingdom is cut off from any assistance. He has also been witnessed coordinating with some Collo NCP politicians in Khartoum and Malakal to see to it that those evil acts against Collo are done perfectly. One of his daughters in Nairobi was outraged by his involvement in evil acts in the Collo Kingdom and he confessed to her that he did not think the situation could reach to that level of killings, burning and displacement as the aim was to humiliate Dr. Lam Akol. Now Dr. Nyaba is repeating the same evil deed against the Collo people but this time on the side of GoSS and its tribal army called SPLA. Will he and his company go away with it freely this time? Dr. James Okuk

Poem: 'Leave Me Alone' by Gabriel Makuei Tor

Fire-works will be put in place                                                               To celebrate the pending victory

I am not another beggar                                                                            But just another nation

You refuse to listen for decades                                                                 It's time for your to feel

For the deafening ears u turn                                                                    Referendum is the answer

I will raise my Flag for real                                                                       For the world to see, and recognize

I will make the change                                                                             You refuse to follow

"Those who refuse to listen                                                                      Will be made to feel."

Building the Country partially                                                                   While killing other parts!!

An enemy, is always an enemy                                                                 A manner less brother, will've time to tame

Khartoum! u deserver to be another border                                               I am departing for a new County, South Sudan

You exploit, when you were to build                                                       You kill, when you were supposed to serve

We meet at the border, you refused to demarcate                                    Good bye!

Greater crime committed by Athor Mr. Chuei Mareng, I know what it takes to be in that situation of dissatisfactions. Your outcry is heard everywhere and it is fully understood that there is something wrong going on in Pigi County. Sorry for everything that has been happening to you. The entire South is with you feeling the same pain you are experiencing. SPLA is there to save lives in the hands of unsatisfied brother to make sure that order is maintained to the fullest, and people of Pigi County should once live again in peace and harmony as citizens of Southern nation. Your long stay with SPLA now is soured and it really needs some remedies to end that unsolved case which causes fear and threat in that area. We are with you brother! Every now and then blaming and other all kinds of accusations against Southern government cannot do it all. You do your best as you can to make sure that your safety is number one goal before the rest. Be honest and fair in judgment than telling us a story we all know the head and the tail where they both lay.  These are all problems in a problem you fail to step up to solve. There is no other greater crime ever committed than the crime committed by George Athor against South Sudan. Abraham Gai, USA

A Done Deal between NCP and SPLM to rig the upcoming vote in favor of Unity In accordance to comrade Wani Igga’s statement, a deal to rig southern referendum vote has been reached between the two parties [NCP and SPLM]. No wonder why the position of SPLM’s leaders has been wavy from time to time.

In some occasion these leaders would be for separation and other time they will be for unity. Their clear stance is now revealed in the statement made by the speaker. You might look at it in a different perspective, but that is what it seems to me.

So, proletariat of south Sudan can now kiss the secession dream goodbye and start brainstorming for something better instead of placing all your eggs in the basket of referendum. GatCharwearbol, USA

Shame on those who massacre Southerners It is very unfortunate to loose life of our brothers and sisters at this time while we are heading to referendum, shame on those who carry massacre against their own brothers and sisters. God bless their soul. Chol Awek Wek, Ethiopia

Security, the mother of democracy Dear GOSS security minster,
I have visited southern Sudan lately, however, if I'm asked to change something that Kiir and his officials is not doing right, I'd definitely start with security. Security means a lot to the people and of course, I'd call it "the mother of democracy." Just for specification, I mean civilian security.

Civilians are dying by thousands and yet the very GOSS is not implementing law and order across the land to stop civil-war generated criminals. Tribal conflicts over pastures is on the rise. It is a heart-breaking to see people taking steps back when peace is around the corner.

What is more confusing is that Gen. Gier Chuang Aluong and some other Goss officials are disarming the victims not the culprits, sounds weird but it is mission assigned to them by Kiir and his cabinets.

All in all, I totally appreciate all the things GOSS has done for the people of south Sudan in the last five years, however, I'd  Kiir and his security team reconsider security measures including disarmament of the culprits not the victims. Damade Deng, USA

Stop unity campaign in South by Arabs Dear Southerners, we have seen now that Arabs have started mass campaign in the Southern states against secession that Southerners are expecting to achieve through voting in Jan.-2011, and they are now preaching about unity of Sudan. My suggestion- these people were not supposed be allowed to come and confuse the situation to our poor and illiterate community. We know all the educated people of the South Sudan will not accept to vote for unity but illiterate people who don't know the disadvantage of unity. If they were not trained properly to know how to vote and also the reason why we are against unity then these Arab people may confuse them to vote for unity.

Some Arabs whom were sent by NCP have entered in our Southern state of NBG today and their purpose of coming here is to start their campaign about unity and we don't expect such kind of activities to happen here just like that. Michael Malual Mawien, Aweil, South Sudan

Advice accepted Dear Brother Arual Deng Arual, you’re right. I do listen and read into the works of the great icon of American and world Civil Rights Movement, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Your advice is acceptable and I thank you very much for that. DengDit Ayok, Khartoum

Unity of Sudan is impossible: What Mr. Taha should've understood first is how the South & the North cooperated during the interim period. Many atrocities were committed by the Jallaba during the interim period some of which are: Abyei battles between the SAF & the SPLA, Malut battles, Bahr Arab (Kiir kau) battles, Timsaah battles, theft on oil revenues, Malakal battles, imposition of Sharia laws on Southerners in Khartoum... among other things. I thought Taha had the ability to anticipate the future of Sudan given its old & contemporary history. Sudan is going to split into the following new states: South Sudan, Dar fur, Eastern Sudan & Arab North Sudan. It's extremely absurd to think of confederation. Mapuor Makorou, India

All for the Referendum In about a few months toward referendum, it's time for the ten states' governors, commissioners, other states officials, and local community leaders to stand up for the next general election campaign. It's their right to reveal the matters, south is capable to rule itself as an independent country. Success of referendum will not only be in hand of the president and his office. If there isn't trouble of political mobilization in south, whoever is capable can do something in his/her local community. Moses Dang, Canada

Why is south govt. easy on Referendum? The crucial moment we fought for is just over five months away. But are the people acutely mobilized and informed about what the event means and how its outcome will affect them and their children millions of years in to the future? Well, it's clear at this point that registration is not even started let alone the program of educating the public in the entire South about the referendum. What is difficult to comprehend though is why the Southern government seems to be taking things easy here when they'd be concerned about any sort of delay to register voters. As a concerned citizen, I'd like to urge everyone who comes to this website to read or publish articles to start writing messages of concern and post them here for the consumption of policy makers in the South so that they can put things right before it's too late.

However, I'm happy with efforts being made by people like Dr Riak Machar to hammer everything in and have the referendum done as wanted by the people of South Sudan. As we all know, this referendum is the only reason for which our people died. It should not therefore be squandered as wanted by selfish blogs like Lam Akol who have sold out to the North. For this reason, I encourage the entire leadership of SPLM and individuals like president Kiir, Dr. Riak and Mr Pagan Amum. Carry on guys, bravo! History will be on your side like Dr. John Garang. Simon Jok Ajack, Australia

Remember to mention Martin Luther King in quotes Dear Dengdit Ayok, you've presented good case why the South and North of Sudan will never be one country after 2011. Thank you for that. But it seems you read/listened to some works of Martin Luther King Jr. because I could sense that from the words and expressions you used in your sentences. You'd have acknowledged him at least by use of quotes. So let us remember Dr. Martin Luther King when we use some of his works. Arual Deng Arual, Rumbek

Fighting the corrupt kingdom I'm very glad that there are still junubin (southerners) who can patch the eyes of the emerging black N.C.P in southern Sudan. Brother Omunu, you have extracted the real points that every honest and sincere Junubi harbors in his/her heart. But remember that, they will do everything to close your mouth and many others who keep-on exposing them. I hope this will never stop your pen in cracking down this new corrupt kingdom that wanted to be established in junub (South) but rather it will encourage many people with clean hands to join you in this intellectual battle. We need to heal a sickness before it development into illness. God save us from all these vices and lead us into our new independent state. Stephen Pitya, Khartoum

North Seems Better Because Opportunists Back It Up Dr. James Okuk, the reason that the North seems better is because of the opportunists like you and Dr. Lam Akol who always back them up. How would you see the weaknesses of the North if you fall in love with them? Why do you always see the South weaknesses alone and not the North?

In my understanding and based on what I have seen, North is no better than South. In the near and far future, South Sudan will out perform North Sudan as soon as we eliminate those who take opportunistic chances. What Jellaba has done for you to denounce your true brothers and sisters is only known to you.

Rome was not build in one day and South Sudan under the leadership of the 1st LT, Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit is not exempt. Because you only see the bad things that Salva does and not the bad things that Al Bashir or NCP does, you won’t know that South Sudan is far better than the North Sudan.

One thing I admire about you, I hope it is not a pretext to find your way into getting rich quick, is your separatism attitude. I unshakably share that trait with you. Please do not fall in to Jellaba trick.

I have been to Khartoum not too long ago and our people [Junubin] who are residing there are not different from Turkana of Kenya if you know what I am taking about. It seems that we are forgetting that South Sudan is the source of slaves. Just because some of southerners are living in the North does not mean that Northerners are better than us. In fact they want us to move to Khartoum so they can enslave us.

No refuge in the North. These Junubin leave outside in the huts just like in villages and they have no source of income apart from doing manual jobs that most of Northerners do not want to do. Sometime, the Khartoum regime would come and destroy these huts, which leave them no shelter. Is this what you call refuge or safe haven? Don’t be blindly fooled by the rhetoric of Jellaba.

I truly understand that GOSS is not up to the expectations of people, but at least it tries to protect their right despite the fact that more conflicts are cropping up everywhere in south. GatCharwearlbol, USA

All southerners fought the war side by side There is one thing that makes "JUNUBIN" south Sudanese, popular. Corruption and mistreatment of minority or the so-called unfortunate, uneducated Sudanese children, men and women. It is rare that any published article on this site tells the outside world of progress or any undertakings in the interest of South Sudanese. It is only 5 five years into the CPA agreement that Southerners have smelled a new air or call it their ticket to freedom. Southern Sudan is corrupted and far from a just society. when people pronounce "unity," what comes into play is uncertainty. We have the leftists and the rightists fighting for power for their ill-gotten gains. A united southern Sudan should be like the organ system to promote a healthy environment that guarantees opportunities bearing education, employment, leisure, and promotes peace and harmony within and between generations. I'm knowledgeable of the heroes who fought and died in the battle for the freedom of our country. Let us all be reminded once again that all southerners fought the war side by side. The government should not play favoritism cards in what is assumed as protection by having DINKAS only in higher government positions. This is undemocratic and suicidal to other groups whose political aspirations are unrepresented. South Sudan is a region blessed with untapped wealth and it is shameful that  those born of the land are not reaping any benefits. Bosco Khamis Lomuro, Australia .

Stop government threat to media Dear editor, I am happy for south Sudan nation for accepting realistic comments. I am far from Sudan but my heart is patriotic in spite of whatever is happening. I therefore fail to understand what a government official does to the citizens if impunity persists. I think of a way to change these strongly possessed habits of threatening the media evidenced by Miraya fm website. Greed for power is our major setback for development. Development doesn't mean erecting towers but general acceptance to individual rights not rushing to chaos. Should our leaders be divisive and fail to perform their duties? I don't suppose, dear editor, but I have failed to change southerners. Cultural difference creates division but if you visit this website as a southerner, get it right and be a southerner not your tribe's toy. Be for the nation not your stomach. Sabbath De Yacouba, Kenya

Let's roll up our sleeves together Mr. Bol, Somalization is just a political market played in vain by Arabs against the South. It will come short sooner than later.
That term is a misconception used by few opportunists to manipulate Southern government so that they could have an open space to reach their desires. It is a term used to prescribe fear against us and against the likely new nation that seems to emerge in six months. It is a word used to hatch ugly unity between native Africans and Arabs, instead of a clear separation. I buy it less than anyone else, but let us roll up our sleeves together for action. Why Somalia now than during two decades for our struggle?  Abraham Gai, USA

Correction to Gat*Bol's recent article. According to Fund for Peace - Failed State Index. Sudan came #3 after Chad, but not #2 as Gatcharwearbol puts it. On the list of 177 Countries from failed to prosperous state, Somali was #1 and Norway was #177 - bottom of the list. Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan are among the top 10 failed world states according to 2010 report from FFP. The 7 of the top 10 are African Countries according to the report. Makuei Tor Mac, USA

Enough is enough My dear brothers and sisters, it is true that South Sudan is now far better than the other previous years, let us stand together for the independence of Southern Sudan. We need not to be a second class in our own country. We have suffered a lot, therefore enough is enough. Long live Southern Sudan. Ajak Kur Samuel, Sudan

Bravo, Editor, for your well-summarized analysis Dear Editor, you are a true son of the South, a region that is seemingly cursed with a bunch of good-for-nothing leaders whose priority is their stomachs and that of their equally greedy hatchlings. "Kiir's new disastrous misrule, once again, must end," under this well titled article, you hammered some very good points that are worth applauding. Well done Sir!

Southern Sudan can only be transformed into a better place for all, only when her sons and daughters speak up in one voice, come what may!! Otherwise, this growing new oppressive and authoritarian trend of governance will not end, it will get worse and Southerners must widely open their eyes right now. Let them do away with the growing misperceptions about one another as tribes or communities, and instead pay attention to these groups of individuals who are molding themselves into first class in politico and socio-economic fields, a bunch of maggots who are making fortune out of misery! Their survival strategies include fitting Southerners against one another along tribal and geographical lines and as long as the Southern Sudanese continue to be short-sighted and brainless, the survival of these gangs is ensured and the poor masses shall forever mourn and groan in abject poverty, widespread insecurity and lack of services but without remedy.

The choice is theirs to peacefully but firmly demand good governance! Our problems as Southerners is not our tribes or diversity, but rather lack visionary leadership that unify us and which serve the people equally and transparently. But the fact remains that under this government, no community grassroots can be said to be benefitting, all are really suffering their individual problems, ranging from insecurity, some of which is perpetrated by SPLA soldiers, to lack of basic services in health, education and infrastructure. Why therefore turn against one another and sing derogatory remarks against Dinka, Nuer, Shilluk, Bari, Azande, Kakwa or any of our various tribal groups? These are all victims in their own ways. Bosco Riak, Sudan

South big to accommodate all I would like to assure Mr. Adeying that South Sudan is very big to accommodate all of us regardless of our tribes. I my self, as I am from Aweil State, I don't care which tribe dominate the government so long they represent the will of the people. But I would like to advice you, that unless you behave yourself and avoid greediness and selfishness, you will die hopeless and shameless like your uncle and traitor Lam Akol. Martin Jok, Australia

Unforgettable gift Kiir can give southerners Allow me to express my inner most felicitation to the President of Southern Sudan for the successful election to the office. This is the assurance by Southern Sudanese people to take them to the land of Canaan; that is, the promised land. Therefore the last election votes from Southern Sudanese people were not just a conventional but entrustment of task, but remember Mr. President that it is not an easy task. I assure that as you leave Egypt to the promised land, Pharoah and his army will realize that releasing you was a mistake hence will send his army after you and as you try to run away with your people.
Mr. President, Dr. Garang has done his part though God has taken him, he has handed the task to you so your current seat is the seat full of stress and a lot of task hence the only gift you can give to Southern Sudanese who are suffering in dignified silence is the gift of successful referendum next year.
Thon Ngor, South Sudan

Gen Oyai, No cheap accommodation General, I think you should have learned life's great lesson how deadly politics is, after you were thrown out in the recent election by your own community. Yet, as comrade in struggle, Salva Kiir did not hesitate to create for you a new ministry so that he can accommodate you despite being rejected by your community. However, your dedication in struggle of your people who are being oppressed by the northerners did not allow you to complete your formal education like others who also joined the struggle. But your behavior when you were minister in Regional Cooperation shocked every one who thought that you were revolutionary. You allegedly threw away your fellow comrades which will never be forgotten, and brought in your in-laws and other relatives who did not have the capability to help you during the elections. Therefore, there is a proverb that says, "when things are dark the friends are few." Victor Makur, South Sudan

Why claim Shilluk land? Those who called themselves from Pigi County are actually confusing. Their actual home is Wun-Lam the home base of Anya-nya One. Why is that they don't like the name Wun-Lam a beautiful place and come to claim Shilluk Land? Urbano Tipo, Sudan

New south-south war It is real very bad to hear that southerners are back to a south-south war . Which seems to be at a wrong time while they are just left with some few month for self determination. Wise Leaders should have at this very critical situation sit down with the rebels to settle the case before farther development. We don't want the civilians to die any more. Ismail Dominic, Sudan

Bad Beginning for FM Mr. Ali Karti Mr. Ali Karti is the appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs in the so-called government of national unity. This is the man who will be in charge of the diplomatic affairs of this country. It is very unfortunate for the government of national unity that the man entrusted with this sensitive position has started with some very arrogant statements that will not only tarnish his appearance before the international community but that of the whole country.

I don’t know how many battles were led by Mr. Karti during the war, but Mr. Karti should consult with his BOSS (El bashir) and with the President of the Government of Southern Sudan, Kiir Mayardit before talking about the war, because these two gentlemen know very well what does the word war means in real life. Both President Kiir and President Elbashir were in the front lines during war and because they very much understand what does that entail, they promised not to take this country back to war again whatsoever. Dr. Thuou Loi Cingoth, Sudan

Stop doubting the SPLM leaders' capability Who is stronger than Pagan Amuom in the politics of the Southern Sudan? I am disappointed with one of the writers who express doubt about Pagan representing southerners in the UN. The main problem with our Southern Sudanese brothers is that they do not trust anybody and they do not point out somebody who can do that work. They are always equivocal in raising their concern about the nation.
Such attitude is bad, the people should be straight forward by pointing out weaknesses and giving solution instead of pointing out weaknesses and keeping quite. It gives bad impression as if you the writer consider yourself to be the most capable. If I can ask, who is stronger than Pagan Amuom in the south as far as the politics is concerned? Pagan is the right man to go to represent the south in the UN. Stop doubting his capability, you doubting Thomases. Daniel Juol Nkomngek, Sudan

We Cannot Rely on International Community to Solve Our Problems for Us Even so it is not a sin to have international community on our side, we must try our level best first before international community intervene in our issue. People of south Sudan must help international community beforehand by uniting under one umbrella in order for the United Nations to have very constructive reason to be on our side.

International Community does not only help southern Sudanese; it is there for all the people living in our universe including the Jallaba or Arabs that we are fighting with. Therefore, Jallaba can also call upon the international community [IC] to intervene in favor of their side. Let us not be narrow-minded here by thinking that international community can only be on our side. We are dead wrong on that.

Many writers have resorted on calling to international community [IC] to rescue us, why not ourselves? For how long will we rely on international community? We are very strong nation and have wide range of educated, uneducated who are capable of solving our differences. Let international community be not our power, we must build one for ourselves.

The key to securing our self– determination or independent south Sudan nation is us adhering together after that the whole wide world, which is the international community, will see for itself our unity and it will certainly side with us knowing that we are up for the right cause.

For us crying help to the international community [IC] while we are the ones that are putting in places the means of destroying self–determination by not uniting is very lame reason to give to the IC. I suggest that before we demand IC intervening, we must first unite under one sensible cause. Then we can call upon the IC to see what we’re doing in a logical manner. Maweer Pan, USA

Such solution in your writing The Lomuche story is interesting but he hasn't suggested how to deal with such a situation. Does he want to instigate other people to rise up or has he a suggested solution? Some angry writers only waste most of their time thinking that what he/she writes will reach the population who so suffer the consequence of the injustice.
I am calling upon the writers to provide or suggest what could be the remedy or solution otherwise the writing to me is just like chasing the wind. Michael Gelon, Australia.

Vote Unity and be slaves forever I'm hereby giving my view to all southern Sudanese that those who want to vote for unity of the country is up to them, but may not lead the rest of southerners. You need to think twice on unity of Sudan. It is good to vote for unity and bad to be called second class citizens and let southerners know it well that it is now the third time for them to be given chance. Once you loose, my dear southerners, you will call yourselves slaves forever and ever. Lasu Morris, South Sudan

Be wise in Referendum vote It took 21 years to achieve CPA; I therefore, cajole my follow Southern Sudanese to cast their vote wisely during the coming referendum. Don't let just 2-minute-vote during referendum take us to years of suffering because of the current situation that can be corrected. Don't forget the past because of the current situation. Think wise and make a wise decision Southern Sudan is yours. By Thon Ngor, South Sudan

Last chance to vote for freedom It's true that the referendum is coming up but the question still remains: are we, southerners (junubeen) ready to work together as a team without favoritism by making sure we give possession to the right people? Those who are educated can speak up and explain or rise our concerns to the rest of the word for better support and also make sure we have enough security to secure our states. We need to take a good look at that and then take this last chance to vote for our freedom Gasid Smbaido, USA

To All Ngok elders, leaders and Politicians. Community Mediator would be the best way to Mediate Athor Deng Dut case. Traditionally, I can see this way would  help the loss of lives and not continuing War that could spread the problem into many communities. In Twic, there was the same problem like this between Kiir and Mathok but was solved locally, and there were many lives lost in that war. Why this case can not be done traditionally?
Letting stay without solving it, is not very good sign.
I was thinking if all Ngok community leaders and politicians come together; talk to the Government of Upper Nile and Jonglei State,
after consolidation from Ngok, Rut, Thoi, Luac, Padang and Paweny. Not only Athor case, our local issues can be talked into it too.

Government is popular when there are people behind it; there is no Government without people and people without Government.
This is a good time now when it calms down to talk to Gier Chuang, Athor Deng and GOSS to stop their violence. Gieth Chol Deng, Canada

Dr. Luka Biong's habitual misinformation The meeting between the FVP and GOSS president and the Southern Generals which was coordinated by Dr. Riek Gai, an elected MP was lauded by all and it is an indication that Southerners know what they fought for no matter where they are. After the meeting at the residence of the FVP, it was described as fruitful and constructive by both sides. However, on SSTV, Luka Biong who is notorious for giving wrong pieces of advice, referred to these Generals as militias. This is a very dangerous statement by this leading figure. May I assure Mr. Luka that these Generals were integrated in SAF and commissioned with the ranks and files of the SAF just like Gen. Kiir after AAA with ID numbers and this is as per the CPA. Gordon Kong was an alternate member of the PMHC of the SPLM/A and one the competent officers assigned to command a zone in one of the axis. He came to Khartoum as a result of KPA on which the CPA was just a complementary. I'd like Mr. Luka to always put things right even when it does not please his Boss. Peter Pal, Sudan

President Kiir has done his part effectively Whether you support the President of the Government of Southern Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit or not, whether you have voted for him in the recent elections or not, whether you agree with him or not, one thing for sure shall be recorded in favor of our President Salva Kiir in the contemporary history of this country. No one shall doubt the fact that President Kiir has successfully managed to unite the people of Southern Sudan effectively since his inauguration as the President of the Government of Southern Sudan in 2005. This is a great achievement that the history and the people of Southern Sudan shall permanently adhere to Salva Kiir.

Unity of the people of Southern Sudan is more important than any other priority that you may think of in this crucial time of our struggle. President Kiir has successfully done that.

Whether the rest of issues are going smoothly or not, it is the responsibility of all of us to answer. It is the responsibility of each of us at our different capacities to do what is required. This is our collective responsibility; it is not the responsibility of President Kiir to monitor all of us on daily basis. It is simply impossible for him to do that.

If the Government of Southern Sudan is failing in delivering basic services to the people of Southern Sudan at the grassroots then all of us should be made accountable for that because each and everyone of us has a role to play in making the service delivery a reality on the ground. The Director General who is not keen in following up his/her duties as per the mandate is solely responsible for that and s/he should be blamed for that.

Many of us are quick to blame the leadership at the top when we are not really doing what is required of us effectively at our different level. The success will only come if each and everyone of us accept and execute his/her duties sincerely and to the best of his/her abilities. This is not difficult if we accept the fact that we are duty bound to work for our nation regardless of where and which position we occupy in the government. Dr. Thuou Loi Cingoth, South Sudan

Mr. James Hoth Is SPLA Lt. General of SPLM and Salva Kiir  Only: No, don't thank the SPLA Lt. General and Chief of General Staff, Mr. James Hoth Mai because he spoiled his good reconciliatory speech with the conclusion he made at the end to pay allegiance to Mr. Salva Kiir, promising to do what ever his boss shall orders him to do even if it is evil deed. This is exactly how the dictators are created in history, especially when army generals under General Chiefs of Staff like James Hoth Mai pay godly allegiance to bad leaders. Look at this unfortunate statement Mr. Mai concluded his speech with: "Comrade C-IN-C we congratulate you and all the SPLM candidates for your overwhelming victory during April general election; and we are very proud of you and always be at your disposal and ready to sacrifice more lives should any situation dictate."(16 May, 2010). This is a sure indication that the SPLA is not an army of Southern Sudan for all Southern Sudanese and their other political parties. With what Mr. Mai has confirmed, the SPLA  has become an army of SPLM leaders and members only rather than the army of South Sudan. God have mercy on Southerners who do not belong to SPLM and are not friends or relatives of Mr. Salva Kiir and Mr. James Hoth Mai. However one time in near future, and with the help of George Athor, Gatlwak Gai, David Yauyau, Dau Aturbong, Alfred Gore and other emerging liberators of the oppressed Southerners by the SPLM/A, these unprotected Southerners shall have the right army to shelter them, their properties and other valuables! It is becoming clear that the referendum SPLM leaders are trying to champion by default shall not lead to independence of South Sudan but Federation or Confederation or New War. In truth shall we always trust and nothing else but the truth. Dr. James Okuk.

Just an Idea on the Hunger Crisis in South Sudan WARRAP, Sudan (Reuters) MAY 28– Adeem Thony is a widow with six children and no way to feed them, one of millions suffering from hunger in South Sudan. "My husband died three years ago during the cattle raids," she said in her native Dinka language as her bony limbed nine-month old baby sucked listlessly at her breast, unsatisfied as Thony herself hadn't eaten yet that day. Thony and her family are victims of a major humanitarian crisis in south Sudan, a semi-autonomous region where half of the population of 8 million is short of food. Corruption, mismanagement and a massive salary commitment to keep a rebel army employed and trained has diverted much needed development money. UN Rep. Holmes was met with requests from the local population for more food, more water sources, and even a mobile network. "We need to do more to encourage development particularly agriculture...so people can be self sufficient and don't need food aid. Resolution: Since Pres. Kiir's Warrap cronies are the many millionaires just hanging in Juba and Uganda, why not tell them to instead take their monies back home and 'liberate those widows and kids.': The land of Juba doesn't need your monies, Mr. Kiir and company. SSN Editor

Referendum campaign should start now The GOSS under president Salva Kiir Mayardit with his ministers need to spend much time telling South Sudanese about the referendum before the due date. Since we all know that the outcome of the referendum is inconvertible in the South, then I thought that it would be valuable for our leaders to start enlightening the Southerners why referendum is important. I am indeed curious because most of our South's population are illiterate. They want thorough education especially verbal conversation from the government/SPLM. Some of them know cattle benefits more than the outcome of the referendum. Therefore, we South Sudanese need serious preparation before referendum. According to the Fraud's theory of the Psyche, the repression brings depression, whereas expression is in fact liberating. Apparently, we should not oppress ourselves by not creating an awareness to those who know less about the referendum. It would be a great idea for the GOSS to create the campaigning team so that the team can spread information to the South Sudanese about the referendum and its consequences. The team needs inclusive leaders starting from the lower level to the top. The chiefs, commissioners, and youth leaders so that they can carry out the referendum exercise as well because they have strong influence in the society.
Separation must be the choice of my people if they prefer freedom. This must be the motto of the GOSS to its citizens. The president of South Sudan should formed the team before December so that they can disclose the importance of referendum to the South Sudanese. The best outcome could not be assumed to be the best unless we acted on it.
Certainly, the GOSS need to posit their eyes on those South Sudanese who are aiming for the destabilization of our referendum because it's a difficult task. Bol D. Bol, US.

The oath of condemnation for South Sudan Mr. President, Warrap State has suffered for long due to lack of basic service to citizens and that is due to tribalism and racism that have been practice by so-called Ministers, Commissioners and people closed to you like Acuil Akoc who is allegedly a corrupt leader Warrap has ever made. For sure the newly elected Governor is going to re-appoint him as Minister or Commissioner, what is this on earth? Five years has passed without any progress seen in some ministers' expected mismanagement and embezzlement of  funds and resources. People have elected you into this position you are in now.
But your problem is weakness in taking right decision at the right time, the same faces are coming back again; if you do so you have violated the will and cry of people of South Sudan about these corrupt leaders.
Finally, I expected you to appoint these honorable members we have elected to represent us in the SSLA, so could select and appoint ministers  free from corruption and not these Ministers who refused to stand for election or failed election to cabinet office. Shame on you if do that after the trust we have given you. Deng John, Sudan

Give Athor what he wants General George Athor prodigality (although others decided to name it rebellion) has become a topic of discussion among southern population especially those who called themselves politicians. It is in fact disgusting to hear some southerners parroting the same tune of the real culprits. Nowadays, the common judgment passed on Athor is that he is a criminal and rebel, he should wait after referendum or go to court as Gen, Alfred Lodu Gore did. But no one dares to ask, what is the cause of his prodigality? Who has the legal right to impose party's loyalist to the southern masses? Or who has the right to rig the elections and go free and above all arresting the victims of election but also tuning to the politics of blaming the victims? I wish that south Sudan will not become another copy of old Sudan, where the citizens sides with the ruling party or whoever is strong, they are with him. Otherwise we shall have a castrated citizenry in a future independent southern Sudan nation, if at all there will be a transparent and fair referendum in the south in 2011 as it's been schedule in the CPA. I'm so pessimistic about the conducting of referendum on time and it's result.

Today during inauguration speech of president Omar Hassan Ahmed Albashir, there was no more emphasis on the issue of referendum and working hard to ensure the unity of the country as before during election campaign. So i begin to guess that there are under table tricks taking place between the two so-called ruling parties.

Hence I'm demanding president Kiir to bring George Athor home without using military means as some of his kitchen cabinet called for but rather through negotiations. If he demands for one of the key ministries let him be granted, if that can secure him back home and finish the work that he have sacrificed half of his life on it.

Secondly, Kiir has to schedule real not faltering dialogue with all the southern political parties and also the SPLM independent candidates especially Alfred Lodu, Angelina Teng, George Athor, Joseph Bokosoro and many others. Stephen Pitya, Khartoum

New productive government in south needed Southern Sudan is approaching towards the last minutes of united Sudan and heading towards independent country. A new state without proper foundation, southern Sudan is having a lot of files that need to be resolved in order for it to emerge as a nation that is able to survive and protect it's territorial sovereignty. There are issues such as security, food security, law enforcement, professionalization of government institutions, health services, political dialogue among southern political parties in order to pave way for political inclusiveness and tolerance. Above all, recognition of all the tribes in southern Sudan and their equality or equity before their government, and the list goes on. We were expecting to see new faces during the election results that are capable to give us new hope that we lost in the last five years wasted in corruption and tribalism. But to our frustration, we are forced to swallow the same corrupt individuals for another five years more. We are going to hear more rhetoric such as zero tolerance to corruption, security is our first priority and many others that are baseless and valueless. It's good for political consumption. If Kiir is sincere to his inauguration speech, let him show it in his new cabinet formation, we want new faces, young men who are productive rather than to fill-up the ministries with bunches of old and out-dated people who kept on messing things here and there. Mr. President, we want a strong state, not another Somalia or Iraq in the heart of Africa that is found on tribalism and corruption. Stephen Pitya, Khartoum

Lack of political will in south It is abundantly clear that south Sudan is lacking of political will. That is why south Sudan is justly blemished for the number of outstanding and imperative policy documents. However, we need to recognize that the lack of political will is a disease. In my view, the absence of the political will to do what is both accurate and essential is as the symptom does to the mental illness. To understand and cure this problem, it requires that South Sudan legislative Assembly (SSLA) must urgently come up with ways to heal this disease prior to the referendum so that the social health of our nation and its products can be save. South Sudan’s health problem, therefore, lies inside the South Sudan Legislative Assembly (SSLA) itself, in as much as it seems to lie in the (SSLA) which is the moral fiber of our government, perhaps, it is most appropriate to ask (SSLA) to address this serious matter. Now, what exactly is this lack of political will?  It is a leader's denial or not able take responsibility for his or her society

But why is the south Sudan leader irresponsible? What assistances have been made to this constant irresponsibility by the nature of south Sudan? By its state of mind, ruling passions, and by its misconceptions about crucial aspects of economic development? Let me comment on some of these. First of all, south Sudan right now is like a cow with two heads, two in front and two behind, with each head dragging in the contrary direction from the other. Noticeably, for any two-headed cow to move correctly, one of its two heads must be destroyed. Now, since neither of these two heads on the south Sudan cow is suitable for our national survival, there is a necessity to cut off, not one, but both heads, and insert on a new head, a single head that is zealous for production, that is instructed with producer values. Moreover, two of the dominant values of the south Sudan elite today are tribalism and corruption. It is vital to understand tribalism will induce nothing but more harm to our nation.

1) Any south Sudan official who promotes total social disorder is a stumpy official and must be dealt with accordingly.
2) Any south Sudan official who robs his or her own nation and hoards the loot abroad in the vaults of its notable enemies is a Robber.
3) Any south Sudan official who signs fake foreign contracts to loot his or her own country is a treasonous official.
4)  Any south Sudan official whose policies promote brain drain and resource drain from his or her country is an official who is bleeding death to the people.
5) Any south Sudan official whose members take responsibility only for his own tribe, and show no collective responsibility for the compound or street or village in which they live, is foolish official, regardless of the brightness and wisdom of its individual members.

In conclusion, any south Sudan official with any one of these characteristics is unfit to rule; and south Sudan official with all five is toxic. I suppose this proof will support the decision that south Sudan’s elite has degenerated to the point where its behavior is dominated by all five characteristics. Mind you, the quest is not for an official like Christ, but for an official of patriots who put the national interest of our country first. We need a leader whose aim is to build a strong nation of south Sudan, instead of one whose prime aspiration is to turn south Sudan, into rebel crowd of grand consumers. Chuol D, USA

Dinka generals represent on SSTV? It has become a new dawn today in the history of Southern Sudan five years after the agreement. The inauguration of the newly elected parliament was wonderful and heartbreaking to the extent that one takes a moment to remember the heroes and heroines who fell on their foreheads during the war. The other thing I would want to comment on is the fact that some days before the commemoration of the 27th anniversary of the SPLA, the SSTV in collaboration with the department of the SPLA PMO was only hosting the Dinka Generals to talk about the hardships and the operation campaigns with Arabs. This to me means that the Dinkas in the army wanted to deceive the Southerners that the war was fought by them. The innocent people of Southern Sudan must know that the only people who shed much blood were the Nuers and mainly the educated. The first battle was fought at Malual Gahoth and was indeed commanded by Cdr. William Nyuon. This was not mentioned by neither of the Dinka Generals. They talked of the operations led by Salva and Kerubino plus some of their commanders. I was also expecting the generals to mention that two GOS planes were brought down by William Nyuon.Col. Alak should have invited some Nuer commanders because some of them are alive and in active services. Next time let the Nuer or Equatorians to contribute. Peter Pal, Sudan

Strict freedom for south journalists Excellent job to the caretaker Minister of Information and GoSS as whole, by taking a serious step to warn UNMIS based radio Miraya FM and Bakhita for airing out unwarranted news, that shows that local agents have a certain perimeter and once they surpass their mandate then they need to be informed of their limit, that is a lesson that need to be learned.

The exercise of one's freedom should not be allowed to knock other people's nose, GoSS should not allow matters flow as others wish but as the people of Southern Sudan wishes which is their duty as civil servants. I know that Miraya FM is based in Khartoum and should not allow herself to be under the influences, or to please Khartoum, we shall not accept that as Southern citizens. It is a red line because we have a spotlight, thou we know that Miraya FM has helped a lot in creating employment for the Southern youth, it has provided a quick news circulation within Sudan and South Sudan in particular, we know that it has also helped in providing programs that include CPA protocols sessions. That is irrefutable fact but that should not give it a mandate to report as they wish, information system has it limits.

GoSS should not only warn Miraya FM and Bhakita radio but should also look further than that, there are many programs that are working day and night to make sure the referendum collapse. For example, the owners of the other programs like internet sites, newspapers, etc, that report matters that exacerbate conflicts and does not promote peace should be shown their boundaries, because the freedom we are claiming now has not yet come in to our hand and therefore we need to be careful on how to achieve this freedom  (the independence of South Sudan).

Our local journalists should learn how to present our country-to-be in a good shape so that it attracts for her recognition by other countries in the near future, because they will too be marginalized if South Sudan failed to achieve her independence because of their misrepresentation. I wish journalists more freedom with strict instructions. Daniel Wuor Thonker, Egypt

Election criminals must be charged first Today we are saying that south Sudan is in jeopardy simply because of the recent military uprising and confrontations in Jonglei state. And every informed south Sudanese knows that the election results are all the source of the problem. But the very big question is, why did the election result itself provoke those kinds of reactions? Why are some people not satisfied with the election results? The answer is simply because a former rebel has quickly forgotten why he rebelled some years back. There had been a long series of violations of the south Sudanese laws and Athor case is that of a person who is refusing to watch bad things happening as he stands by. The chaos in the south are all attributed to those groups that showed no any respect to the south Sudanese people by manipulating election results in the broad day light against the will of the voters. These are the sick GREEDY and uncivilized people that have tarnished the credibility of our state and the course of our struggle for justice, equality and freedom. Is this action not a terrible crime in a state? Before thinking of bringing George Athor to Book, the election criminals must first be charged if the state is to have a brighter future. A concerned South Sudanese.

Giving Incentives will not make unity attractive, Dear Egypt As I was browsing online through our beloved paper Ajras Alhurriya, I came across an article where the paper quoted the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt saying that giving incentives to Southern Sudan before referendum is crucial to make unity attractive. Please check Ajras Alhurriya online and you will get that article. Go to www.ajrasalhurriya.net, scan through and you will read this insult from the person in charge of the diplomatic affairs of a country expected to play roles in this continent.

Giving incentives to Southern Sudan before referendum to make unity attractive as proposed by H.E the minster of foreign affairs of Egypt to me is an insult that should not be left unchallenged. The leadership in the Government of Southern Sudan must ask the minister of foreign affairs to apologize to the people of Southern Sudan. Even if some Southern Sudanese have wrongly decided to take refuge in Egypt, Southern Sudanese are proud and mature enough to decide what is good for them without getting incentives from anyone.

The people of Egypt in general and the minister of foreign affairs in particular must read the history of the struggle of the people of Southern Sudan correctly. Southern Sudan is rich enough to be given incentives by anybody including Egypt and the minister of foreign affairs even if he believes that he has got all the money of the world. The Nile passes through Southern Sudan before flowing to Egypt. Most of the oil produced in Sudan is in the soil of Southern Sudan. We are rich enough to be cheated with Chocolate dear Egypt.

The people of Southern Sudan will decide their own fate in 2011 based on the historical facts in this country. It will not be based on some incentives given to them using resources which were originally stolen from Southern Sudan. The minister of foreign affairs of Egypt should work hard to convince the NCP that racial or religious discrimination is the not best way forward especially in the complicated country like Sudan.  H.E should work hard to convince NCP that true democratic transformation is the best remedy in this country. Kids are the only being that may be cheated using some incentives sometime. Even kids could not be cheated all the time my dear friend. Let Egypt take its incentives somewhere else, but not to Southern Sudan. Dr. Thuou Loi Cingoth, Sudan

Athor against the system not the SPLM/A visions. The SPLM under Salva Kiir is corrupted by his own people from Warrap. This is why Gen. Athor is to be brought to justice while those who're supposed to have been brought to justice are from Warrap state and including Taban Deng Gai from Unity state. These are ringleaders deployed by Kiir Mayardit to be a safe heaven him later on when he retires. Athor is against the system not about governorship, the system which is robbing the votes like property. A system which defends the legacy of individualism not about the people of southern Sudan. I support resistance against the system of Kiir of Warrap. Padang son, Sudan

Dinka Padang first to cause disunity It is the Dinka Padang-community, who're the first to have resorted to creation of disunity spirit and disharmony relationship among Southern Sudanese tribes, especially in the Upper Nile State-Malakal area. That was the time when the Dinka Padang community, in the Upper Nile State first started to conspire against the Shilluk community and their ancestral lands, in 2008-2009.The Dinka Padang of Upper Nile and Jongelie State, were secretly advocating, lobbying and planning  to confiscate and grab Shilluk's ancestral Lands. And those Dinka Ngok/Padang conspiracy led to the massacring of innocent unarmed Shilluks civilians, at Ankadair and Abanimum Shilluk areas respectively. This was in front of Al-Bashir, Salva Kiir, and Dr. Riek Machar, all respectively present at the scene of this tribal fight that was instigated and incited by the Dinkas of Padang, especially the Ngok of Abwong and Akok,45 kilometers east of Malakal Shilluk's county. So you must you must blame George Athor alone, because his unruly behavior is actually a reflection of the typical aggressive and the unruly general behavior of the whole Dinka Pandang community of Upper Nile State and the Jonglei. Peter Karlo ,USA

Gen.George Athor must be handled with care. The release by the SPLA spokesman that he would be crushed militarily is a lie.Athor is one the fiercest field commander who can't easily be caught. I'd only call upon the President of GOSS to take the course of peaceful approach in dealing with him. Look,Gens. Bol Kong and Ayuen Alier tried to use force but he repulsed them. Kuol Manyang said he wanted Athor to either be caught alive or dead. That's laughable and mere morale support. My advice to Comrade Salva is that don't listen to wrong advice and leave George out of the next cabinet. He helped in the realization of the peace we're now enjoying. He's still helpful and will continue to be in the ranks and files of the SPLA especially after the post-referendum era. Peter Pal, Sudan

Makuei has right to reject dialogue Chol, I doubt you know what you're talking about other than being Athor supporter and critic of Gen. Kuol and Justice Makuei. You questioned Makuei's right to rejection the dialogue.
If you've the right to write as a Sudanese, then Makuei has right to express his opinion. He was asked by the media what he thinks and he should tell the truth or what he prefers in that situation. Why question him?
I do not even want to ask you about Kuol now; I will give time to reset your mind and think about what you wrote and how you presented it. Michael Kuol, Sudan

SPLM Chapter urges peaceful negotiation with Athor The SPLM Calgary Chapter called an emergency meeting on May 9, 2010 regarding the catastrophic, and dubious decision taken by former independence candidate for Governorship and former Deputy Chief of Staff, Major General George Athor Deng who bloodshed the life of innocent citizens of South Sudan in Doleib, Pigi county in Northern Jonglei State. The aimed of the meeting was to ask the opinion of Southern Sudanese concern citizens about the clashes that happened in Doleib between Gen. Athor’s and SPLA forces which caused the lives of civilians of Southern Sudan. The SPLM members and Southern Sudanese citizens vigorously condemn the action taken by Gen. George Athor Deng while the southern Sudanese citizens are awaiting the upcoming referendum in 2011.

We would also like to urge Gen. George Athor very strongly not to repeat what had happened in two weeks ago. We all knew that you were one of the military influential figures of the SPLA/M during the liberation struggle, more committed and loyal to SPLA/M system, but now we wanted you not to obliterate your wonderful legacy by killing your own citizens and fellow Comrades whom you had previously scarified your life to rescue them from Arab domination. They offered their precious live voluntarily during the movement for the name of our mother land, human rights and freedom to all marginalized people of Sudan.

Sudanese citizens in Canada would appreciate your understanding and well thought with respect to lives of South Sudanese citizens before further causalities.  We strongly urged you to cooperate and respect any peaceful resolution offer by the GoSS and SPLM leadership because  losing election cannot be resolved through military means which may jeopardize the main objectives of the SPLA/M that based on justice, peace, equality, unity and free will in which we had been fighting for more than two decades. Mr. General George Athor Deng, we want you be more vigilant, realistic and caution that the enemy of peace always seeking for opportunity to destabilize the CPA. We are hereafter to assure you that it would be unwise decision to destruct this wonderful destiny that caused the life of more than 2.5 million citizens of South Sudan in a last minute.

Yes for Peace, No for War, SPLM National Second Convention’s Motto,

President Kiir Mayardit,

We the SPLM members and Sudanese community elders in Calgary realized that General Deng rebelled against the GoSS. We knew that GoSS has a military capability to capture one General with no resistance, but we the SPLM members and Sudanese elders in Calgary are requesting the GoSS to sustain peace through negotiation table whereby the third parties particularly the Sudan peace partners like IGAD, African Union, Church leaders, and Padang Community elders would be given a chance to mediate peace before military retaliation. We really appealed to GoSS and SPLM leadership to forgive General Deng since continuation of this conflict will claim more lives of our civilians and soldiers while we all want them to enjoy peace dividend. Your Excellency, we the Southern Sudanese citizens in Calgary are kindly requesting the government of southern Sudan, under your leadership to exhaust all necessary mechanisms with consideration of the following resolutions:

First and foremost, prolonging this internal conflict, would caused insecurity and instability which will hidden the preparation of the imminent referendum in 2011 whereby people of South Sudan would determine their future either to retain unity of Sudan or opt for South Sudan separate government as one of the cornerstones of liberation struggle.

Secondly, turning guns against citizens is completely irrelevant because we will lose innocent lives of our people at this juncture and it will undermine ultimate roles of the SPLA army while their main function is to defend South Sudan and to maintain the CPA.

Thirdly, our partner is very serious advocating false allegation to international community that we people of south Sudan are incapable of running our own affairs and warns the international community to refrain from supporting secession of South Sudan. We the SPLM Calgary and other Sudanese elders want the SPLM leadership and the government of southern Sudan to prove them wrong this time and alert the people in the world that we the Southerners are more than capable to govern ourselves by maintaining lasting peace in South Sudan.

Almighty God will rest the souls of SPLA soldiers who lost their lives in peace and keep the liberation struggle continue. (Signed): Stephen Yang Chuol Luak, SPLM Chairperson, Calgary, Canada

Peaceful solution for Gen. Athor I am so impressed with how you precisely covered the situation in Southern Sudan so clearly. A situation like this would have been handled in a peaceful means if the government of Southern Sudan did not act with force. This incident should have been treated as minor and prescribed an ongoing investigation to how this situation occurred. This situation is soon going to go out of hand if not given a careful consideration. I suggest the government of Southern Sudan refrained from using force at this time for the sake of containing the fire and finding a solution gradually with no rush. Believe it or not, General Athor will gain support from civilians and those who are not supporting the separation of the South from North and derail the referendum process if not considered a peaceful resolution by the government of South Sudan. The thing I hate the most is that anything that happens from military itself ends up destroying the civilian's lives. To protect the lives of innocent civilians, the government of South Sudan needs to find a meaningful way to handle this situation without more lives to lose. Thanks John Kuek, USA

Athor one of you - Dear Dinka Community I was Born In Lou Nuer and my advice to you is about George Athor. I think George Athor is one of your eyes in Dinka Community. I know his heart is Dinka.
Very well, about 10 years ago, we tried to capture him, but we failed. If you chased your brother, okay, that is good. Thank you very much if you get my message. Most of you do not know me. In 1997 I was in Wonadol, I think Commander Malual Majiok knows me. Lam Bol Nhial, Canada

Kiir must apologize and form new admin, That is it, people must do the same to face the truest not to hide behind the table of Kiir because he is in power. Kiir must apologize to the whole southern Sudan people. And come out with new administration, know the right of humanity in south Sudan especially for the coming month if we want to build a new democratic South Sudan. I know and the whole south Sudan people know that Kiir is the most corruption administration.
Therefore, I request Kiir to form a multi-party administration to include the entire south Sudan and apologize in front of people about the previous administration. Abulevi Victor, Sudan

SPLM bad faith and selfishness First of all, I would to convey my thanks and gratitude & appreciation to our brother, Chan Chual, for his courageous way. I believe this is how we can solve our problems as southern Sudanese. I want to assure that, what happened during the election in south is shameful & unacceptable, it was a big mistake committed by the leadership of SPLM. bad faith + weakness + selfishness + hatred among the leadership in south, especially SPLM will lead to disaster. So we must respect each other and give everybody his rights without segregation. All the southerners contributed in the struggle & no body is better than the other, so let's respect each other and those who created these situations should apologize to southern Sudanese people. David Laku Darius, Libya

Freedom Fighters Seemed to be left in LIMBO: During the long struggle freedom fighters who would survive the war were promised milk & honey. Martyrs were also to be valued $ their families to be cared for. Unfortunately, all those promises are now forgotten, leave alone being met. Moreover, no services to people. What really did we fight for, to enrich Garang, Kiir, Wani, Riek & Gier's families? They are getting richer day by day & the poor masses are without services & getting poorer day by day. The trend is showing continuously. Oh! God, it is all up with us, sacrifices have turned to curses. Save us, Oh! God, for no one is showing any compassion to us, we only see wolves widening their mouths to swallow us each day. M.M.Makoi Macuoc, Sudan

The issue of George Athor is by no way a forgiven crime. He'll reap what he sow. The same thing to underminers of peace and freedom will face in the court of law. Let's wait and see what happens after referendum prime time is passed. They are playing with fire and they don't know how dangerous it is. Isaiah, you're one of 99 sheep that caused Kiir Mayardit to panic during your lost time. Abraham Gai, (The Machingela) Sudan

Best way for complaints It is very sad news for us south Sudanese to hear fighting occurred because of loosing the election. South Sudan people are losing lives for nothing. Let our brother stop fighting and go back to Juba to raise his complaint. That's the suitable ways to address issues. Raphael Nhial Kualang, Vietnam

Negotiate peacefully with Athor Peaceful resolution is only way to bring back George Athor Deng, and other independents, not violence as other are advocating on the internet. I had known Lt. General Athor since 1988 when I joined as SPLA/SPLM as 'Jech Amer' or Red Army. He is a nationalist, freedom fighter and a loyal to south Sudan cause ever since. Comrade George had joined NIF and various factions in Upper Nile Region in 1991-2005. The place where SPLA still active in those days are enclaves of Dinka Padang/Luac, Atar Dinka, Pawiny, Panauru, and many other Padang Dinka in Upper Nile. These sections of Dinka were surrounded by moronic forces of Shiluk and Nuer loyal SSIM, SPLA-U and who finally surrendered themselves to Beshir in 1997.

When Bor Dinka was attacked by a combination of NIF-Nuer affiliated militias, it was Athor that gave hand to Bor and still manned the whole enclave of Upper Nile Dinka to SPLA to the time of CPA. What made him to do the shameful act of attacking his former comrades can be comprehended through the lenses of democratic transformation whereby the SPLM PB hand picked good boys and denied others as bad boys- independent candidates.

At this movement, GOSS, Jonglei State and Pigi County can select some religious leaders or elders/peace makers to go where he is in that part of Upper Nile Region. People should negotiate through peaceful means. Marko Akot Dakbai, Aliab, Lakes State

Kiir has forgotten other veterans Dear Gen Athor, Congratulations for what you've done but it's too early for that mutiny to burst because the widow of John Garang has taken the SPLM party to be her personal property forgetting the fallen other heroes.
We are behind you for that initiative, it's not that all who are in the party are happy with Kiir nor Nyandeng. Kiir has forgotten other veterans who are quiet not realizing they are quiet near him.

Kiir will never learn from where he was and who are those behind him. The wife of late Desire Laurant Kabila Congo did take the country Congo into her hands the way Nyandeng is driving Salvatore Kiir in South Sudan.

Who's Rebecca to talk about South Sudan? Widows are still mourning their husbands but you're now after wealth. This is people's blood which will bring leprosy to your clan. Tozulum Nash, Kenya

No redivision in South again People should be very careful! Agitation is not good. Madam Rebecca John Garang De Mabior is a humble human being, people knew her very well. People should not bring their opinions on her for Alfred Lado Gore's problem as no one has exactly known what took place. Alfred Lado Gore has lost election more like other independent candidates. Alfred Lado Gore himself hasn't said he is going to remove John Garang from the grave in Juba or stop non-Bari people for land. These are wishes and thoughts of hateful individuals from Alfred Lado Gore's tribesmen in Bari. Also with "re-divisionist elements" especially for those who'd like to bring back decentralization policy of 1983 in the South in the GOSS. We do not want division in among ourselves again in the South like 1983.We need to live together in UNITY in the South for one purpose of interest. All citizens in the South can go to any one of ten states to stay on his or her decision without force at all. Chief Abiko, USA

Imposing unwanted commissioners not fair What you have stated are true; a governor has no powers to appoint the commissioner in his/ her state, if so then there is no need of electing the governors. They can be elected or appointed by the president in his capacity as president of the republic. The election of the commissioners must be done at the current stage if not done then what we are doing in the South is not related to what is so-called government. Second to that, this kind of imposing unwanted person on people is not fair, the choice of many people have to be fulfilled. Michael Malwal Mawein, South Sudan

Riek Machar/Angelina domination unacceptable Thanks to the people of Unity State for electing Taban Deng Gai, Dr Riek Machar should be shamed himself by allowing his wife to ran for position of governorship. Why does Machar want to be the vice president of the South and his wife the governor of the state, how does that sound? To me it is totally unacceptable beacuse you are not alone in Bentiu. Majok Aker Ayai, Rumbek

Would have voted for SPLM-DC I'm really sorry for what is happening in south Sudan. Is this the way we are going? If yes, there is no need for separation. Rebecca is not the choice of the people of Central Equatoria. How comes our president is being used as a tool by her to appoint Clement the winner in this election? Know that you have lost your popularity in this state& Unity state, because every one is now against your dictatorship government. Had we to know this before, we would have voted for SPLM DC. Mogga Moses, Juba

Commissioners appointed by governors Please be informed that the NEC is not responsible for conducting elections at the local government levels, it only conducts elections for the The president of the Sudan, The President of GoSS, Governors at the executive level and at the legislatures level being it members contesting for National Assembly, Southern Sudan Assembly and the State Assemblies. Please read the National Elections Act, 2009. The Commissioners shall be appointed by the Governor of the state, you should also read the Laws of Southern Sudan especially the Southern Sudan Local Government Act, 2009. Sabri Juma Hussein, Sudan

Bor should open new page I'm shocked by the one article that agrued  Dr. Machar Should say sorry to Dinka Bor community. The 1991 coup of Dr. Machar didn't make any special damage to Bor community alone. What about those Nuer that lost their lives in that spilt but nobody has taken notice to rcord it? Doesn't mean that Nuer are dumb to tell Kirr to say sorry to Nuer community. I think Dinka want another war again between the tribes. Bor community can think instead of opening a new page and move on with life. Andrew Poth, Sudan

SPLM has legitimacy to govern For the oppressed South Sudanese, the desire to create a new democratic state where people have to elect their leaders to run their government of the people for the people and by the people for over two decades or more cannot be suppressed by the illegitimate SPLM government, which had undermined South Sudan constitution and the international law.
SPLM has consistently, since its formation, rejected the vast will of majority of people of South Sudan the right to vote and to be voted in their communities, the right of freedom of speech, the right of movement, the right for a fair treatment, and the right of self-determination, and has never, it must never, enjoy any moral political legitimacy of our entire oppressed people.
Legitimacy of any government is associated with authority to govern. The comprehensive peace agreement which the two partners- National Congress Party (NCP) and the Sudan’s People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) have abrogated has provided a legal framework that can recognize legal authority. If law has to have relevance, it must be evident that the SPLM regime in South Sudan lacks authority under international law. The only legitimate basis for the authority of any government is the consent of the people, however it is expressed. It follows this that the regime has no right in international law to speak in the name of South Sudan and no right to assure its own survival.
The struggle of South Sudanese for freedom and self-determinations in the land of our birth is the continuation of struggle waged by our ancestors against the plunder of our land by the early colonists, and against our exploitation as slaves by both British and Arabs invaders.
South Sudanese were conquered by force, and their continued subjugation by NCP and SPLM has been ensured by force. The apparatus of these governments is to use force in form of subjection to poverty, illiteracy, violence, intimidation, torture, imprisonment without trail, insecurity, exploitations, corruptions, murder, and forced occupation. To end this, no matter what SPLM ruling party does this time to South Sudanese, it will remained as always the illegitimate governing organization in South Sudan. It will remain an illegitimate regime because it has been charged with crime against humanity; it have deprived millions in South Sudan the right to vote and be voted, the right of liberty and property; it has perpetuated a system of gross tribal discrimination and inequality in the south; It has systemically incarcerated and tortured many people contrary to the rule of international law; worse of all SPLM is illegitimate because it waged and has massacred South Sudanese school children in Yambio during the last annual comprehensive peace agreement celebration. Lako Modi Tombe, Canada

Our leaders out of touch South Sudan must let true democracy speak to the world about their leadership choices. After all, that was why millions of lives of our people got lost for. The international community has stood with us up to now since when the point peace was established with their assistance and the groundwork for us to determine the political, economical and social path our people want to take was laid - CPA. It is incredible now to hear what what is taking place in South Sudan during the recent elections. The results of elections are delayed to give room for unfair play. This only spells the fear the political establishment in Juba as a result of isolating the masses out of political decisions made for them. It clearly says that the leadership in Juba has lost touch with the common man in the street, road or village in South Sudan. The fear is that what is going to be the next step the masses are going to take with this frustration? My fear is that that now the legitimate means of achieving justice in governance is denied by those in authority then we can expect anything far from tranquility. We should not rule out that those in Uniform that perpetuate injustice were non-uniformed street guys that can be replaced by them. We should not let things go out of hand where a brother fights a brother for ful Masir or Beledi and political bones from Jallaba. South Sudan stands to loose if we do so. We all have a vision of wanting to live in a peaceful land where a child can get a pencil and paper to learn, a common man can afford a needle to mend his garment, a village man can get chloroquine for malaria and a decent home to live in!. Bismark Bura, Australia

Angelina-Taban rivalry worrisome There are elements in the Unity State who are trying to return us to the dark days of war lordism in the modern of history of Western Nile during the splitting of SPLM/A in 1991 to 2005. I thought that the suffering of Unity State citizens ended in 2005 after the completion of CPA between north-south Sudan, but what is happening nowadays between Angelina Riek and Governor Taban Gai supporters is worrisome resembling another Matip- Riak- Gatdet-Taban and other warlords of 1997-2003 war that engulfed the entire Western Nuer clans by themselves, causing untold suffering and loss of properties between the formers militias affiliated groups or seven factions in the western Nuer alone. Angelina's supporters are spreading lies, cries and complaints since day one of election and now her supporters are tarnishing the image of State and Taban Deng on internet. Now, southerners are keeping their eyes on Unity State, and everybody, Taban, Angelina and rests of citizens will be judged on what is happening in our state. Gatkuoth Duop Nhial, Guit county, Unity State

Dr. Garang was a smart politician I hear some people are talking that new Sudan vision has gone with Dr. John Garang, as some of them say that John Garang was a gambler politician. Yes, I could agree with some points, but I can name it as smartness, John Garang was very smart politician not as some old aged politicians. Dr. John used to study general problems and opinions from the society ground which made him very successful leader during his days in struggle, the opposite of some short sighted politicians who see as calling for whole Sudan is inappropriate reason for fighting in south Sudan. Samuel Kur, Sudan

Angelina elected by people M. Deng Lang. Teny has no royal family in Bentiu. Mrs. Riak was elected by people in your place in Bentiu in Unity State in Nuerland alone democratically. It does matter whether her husband Dr. Riak Machar is a Deputy in SPLM and Vice President in GOSS. He is there to work for people. We just needed somebody to do the right thing for people! Not lip services. Chief Abiko, USA

We need Taban to step down immediately Although he is strong leader, this time he's not very honest. Taban Deng Gai, was not bad for the first time; in all his entire life. For example, when we were in Itang, Taban was very good leader who made lots of changes. Let me tell you this, one piece of stick fire can burn the whole forest. Today, Taban, has become a different person; due to his bad influence from outsiders. Instead of making Unity State a better place for the future of  the Bentiu’s citizens, he made it worst  forever in Southern Sudan. Anyone can ask himself why Mr. President is still silent while the situation is going bad. And why the independent candidates are the problem in other States while they are not a problem in his State?  I believe he is behind this mess but as leader of the country we need his intervention to solve this problem immediately. Otherwise if he does not think twice he will lose his support from the People of Unity State and Taban himself as well. I think Mr. President and his friend Taban should respect the public choice and accept the election result, this should be the better way. We do not need to loose any person's life in Unity State or in all southern Sudan for the seek of leadership at this time. We all knew that leaders come and go. Lam Jok, In Canada

No Teng's royal family in Unity State Power sharing should be applied in Unity States for the common good of citizens of Unity State, both Nuer clans and other non-Nuer ethnics. Riek Machar is already the Deputy Chairman of SPLM and Vice president of GOSS, from Leer county and other prominent figures are from Leer clan of Nuers. So, Angelina Riek should not attempt to caused chaos because Pariang County voted overwhelmingly for Lt. General Taban. We are not building here a kingdom in the Unity State for Teny's royal family. Other Nuers and Dinka who have not been in GOSS, SPLM/A would like to have their representation in Unity State. M. Deng Lang, Unity State

Two mistakes in SPLM history I am afraid to express this, but it necessary to tell SPLM as my favorite political party as well as for all Sudanese to learn la esson and avoid making such terrible mistakes in the future.

1-     Selection of candidate for gubernatorial and legislative position:

SPLM has messed things up as it divided the opinions of its supporters by just a little error which could have been overcome by exercising the doctrine and principles of democracy to respect the will of people in choosing its candidates, rather than just choosing the hand-picked people who don’t represent the majority neither the will of the public. Yes those people may have long struggle history in the bush fighting, but at same time those who have not been selected also have served and shown loyalty to the movement in this way or another.

Another thing SPLM should have considered is that the post is not military post, but it's a civil position. To make things even worse it went on to expel those candidates whoare determined to stand alongside with their people, which I suggest it was their right to do. A solution could have been reached if the SPLM had surrendered its decision and returned to democratic process in selecting the candidates before the time ran up.

Now supporters are divided and some are even fighting because of this terrible mistake undertaken by the party. SPLM should and must immediately act to reconcile those who have been expelled and officially apologize to the public because everything is in total mess and confusion otherwise it will cost the party a heavy price.

2-      Withdrawal of presidential candidate:

Up-to-date reasons and causes behind withdrawal are still blindfolded and unclear to the public. Because what was said by Dr Riek is not what Yasser had said. Riek told the news that it was Arman’s request to withdraw, but he was quoted saying that he withdrew because of security situation in Darfur. So there was some sort of contradiction between the two and the party as whole because even Kiir had given different explanations somewhere. Nevertheless even if the decision was justifiable it wasn’t the right time to withdraw, as supporters everywhere held the party of misleading the people. Though it is a party of individuals not representing all Sudanese in the country and around the world, it happened, but not in wisdom and good judgment. In my opinion Arman should have remained and people go to the poll and see what happens. Who knows? Arman might have won the election as the results shows in all southern states that he is leading, despite of his withdrawal; anyway we will remain silent until SPLM reveals its plans for which it did all this. Awilo Garang Kon, Australia

Chad's Pres. Deby just a barking dog This is short message to all south Sudanese: what had been stated by Chadian president, please take it as a dog barking. No one has more right than you do for 2011 referendum, it is you who will determine your freedom and not Deby. William Mut, Australia

We'll make it in 2011 If South Sudan was flooded with water, we would not give up and say God let our souls rest in peace. We would learn how to live in water and for the first time in the whole world, we would discover another way of life. Someone once said, 'problems are there to make you strong and not make you scared.' In our heart we are south Sudanese; by nature we are, and by 2011 we make it known as South SUDANESE. Rapdit D. Mangar, south Sudan

Tough luck Who on earth is making change in Sudan when every individual is power hungry, filling their stomach by robbing the resources of the country? Who on earth can claim that he/she is the savior of Southern Sudan's corruption? David Geri, South Sudan

This is a Response to Both Gat' on 1991 breakaway and Raan Naath talking about Dr. Riek being a deliverer. To Gat'Bol: When will you people stop misquoting others because of envy? The 1991 conflict was caused by power greediness and not New Sudan Vision ideal. This was when Riek Machar and Lam Akol wanted to rule the South according their will but not of the people - if they could have succeeded by then; the South could be in Khartoum today according to their Fashoda agreement with Bashir. Which Naath called the present Referendum? Listen here, Raan Naath. I don't see Riek as a deliverer but let's wait and see. Referendum came in during Naivasha peace talks, it's not a Fashoda idea- get things right. There are no kids to fool. Makuei Tor, USA

New Sudan Vision of Dr John Garang de Mabior exists.
The manipulation of ideas about the New Sudan vision encourages many South Sudanese to misunderstand Dr Garang's Vision. I believe that New Sudan vision has no different meaning apart from the exact meaning of New and Sudan and it mission/vision. The mainstay of SPLM- Dr John Garang de Mabior and those dedicated SPLM members who examined the great Vision of SPLM ever since comprehended the meaning of New Sudan more better than those who just take the symbol and the glance of its characters. Because of misinterpretation, some people acclaimed it wrongly. I have no doubt that New Sudan vision is complex and there is no way everyone can clearly digest it very easily, perhaps when we will become mature in thinking and leadership.

I want to remind my friends GatCharwearbol and others who misquoted the vision of New Sudan. The vision is not dead, my dear. Dr Garang vision did not die, it's still alive dear friends. The mission has been accomplished by Dr Garang and that is why he said that it is your turn if you want to be a second class citizen in your own country, it is up to you. I think Dr's ability doubled ours because he means the separation of South for long under the mission/vision of New Sudan. Now are we not waiting the referendum? Indeed, the misrepresentation of ideas could be a big insult. And in fact, it is insulting to called New Sudan vision of Dr Garang as a dead one. Those individuals are currently insulting prominent supporters and South Sudanese as well. What persuaded all of you that the New Sudan was dead? Are we South Sudanese not following CPA that was signed under SPLM effort in Kenya? Yes, this peace accord was under the New Sudan vision that you guys are now witnessing at the moment.
There is no freedom without dedication and effort, no freedom without pride, and no freedom while taking side with the oppressors. The above characters described the manners of those who misunderstood Dr Garang Vision.

I thought that it's a lethal sentiment to describe the excellenct Vision that way while it is still operating. Blue Nile and Nuba Mountain will be under consultation next year whether they will be part of North or South. Is that not the intention of SPLM (New Sudan Vision)?
South Sudan will chose their interest in 2011 if allowed, is that not the vision of new Sudan?
The election has been done in both the North and the South, is that not the vision of New Sudan?
What are you, dear friends, talking about when you said that New Sudan has dead? Please, let's be intrepid and respect the heroes for their work done. Bol D. Bol USA

Dr. Machar has always been true nationalist. Dr. Riek Machar has always been a true nationalist in his actions to free the people of South Sudan. Some of his actions with good intention, however caused some sort of violence like what happened in 1991, but the end result is the current self-determination towards referendum we all long for to lead us to independence. So, championing self-determination even though violence followed as a result of late Garang preaching it as Nuer taking over power from Dinka, should not be called as a sin by Dr. Machar. Raan Naath, Juba

To SPLM: People have their rights Dear South Sudanese, know that politics must be treated politically. In political practices there are some theories that defines political maturity. But what is so apparent with our people in south Sudan, believe me they are not politicians. Instead, they are very good historians. While history is regarded a good material for building up ones political career, it is equally important to reciprocate the saying in politics that in politics "there is neither permanent friend  nor permanent enemy". So, for this reason, today we may be friends, and tomorrow we are enemies. This element of truth is being lacked by most politicians in South Sudan. They do not want to remember that it was al Turabi who organized the coup for Al Bashir in 1989 when they were friends and who and where is Al Turabi today. So I want to tell those  inexperienced politicians that, they should rest assured that we can use one boat to take us ashore, and if it is punchered the people on board should agree in unison to repair it.  Failure to reach a  consensus to repair, then one would be compelled to look for an alternative boat that can take him or her ashore the sea. So the purpose of this letter is to inform the SPLM die-hards that the people have their rights to determine their owned destiny by whatsoever means, whether through SPLM as a steering wheel or through other alternatives. We have had enough from the SPLM political gimmicks which, at the end missed the vision for which it was established. This means that today I may be a member of a political party and tomorrow I may not. So that means both of us will have the sense of belonging to a nation and nationalism, but how to administer the nation and national interests are what we can disagree on principally.

This is healthy for the national building because, new ideas can be derived from the opposition and can be utilized by the ruling party. Here I may not blaming it much on Southerners because we have not had stable political experiences since time immemorial. So most southerners view SPLM as the only party that can deliver and grant them what they want. It will then later discovered that the People's party will be history like those ones during the Colonial era.

Most African independent movements and anti colonial parties are no longer commanding popularities, the case which will be with the People's party. Therefore there will be a lot political party's emergence including some defectors from the SPLM. These are some of the truth in politics, not traditions. Ochan Nyero, Kenya

Dr. Riek Machar a changed man I believe and trust that we learn from our mistakes. Mr.Riek Machar is a humble and a changed man as far as we all know him.He is one of the most hard working member of the SPLM and a roving Ambassador in the nature of his work between the two Government of GONU AND GOSS.
Mr. Salva Kiir sees Mr.Machar as his right hand man because he delivers. Mr.Machar is better off because he sinned only once and not 70x7 that most of us can sin in a given day  Since we can learn from our mistakes we should also be forgiven from our mistakes and that is how the world rotates and revolves around its axis. Dr.Machar should remain part and parcel of the next government of south Sudan in order to lead us to the CANAAN. Justin Chicago Opiny, Canada

Is Bona Malual a veteran? I have this question to ask, does going into exile qualify a person to be a veteran? People like Bona Malual Maduot should never call themselves or someone call them veterans because a veteran is a person who has been in war frontline for so many years and has also been instrumental for the freedom of his or her own state. People like Malual were hiding in London and betraying Southerners and today enjoying the dividends of CPA. People like him should not confuse the world on Sudan election as it has started well in South Sudan despite wrong perceptions that the elections will spark violence which is the bad wish from the enemy of peace.
Shut your mouth and join jalaba because you like being a slave more than liberty for your own land. Chris Marol, South Sudan

SPLA a threat to elections Mr. Bona Malual is right in this particular part of his complaint, the SPLA is a major threat to the fairness of the ongoing elections in many states here in Southern Sudan. For them democracy means voting in the SPLM. I want to tell them that the SPLM has been ruling since 2005 & the time is due now for us to judge through the polls if they deserve more time or not without being intimidated by anybody. P. Akoldid, Juba

Let the community choose I think this election is good, but there are people trying their best to do something for others. I think let the community choose whoever they want. Even if you force people today to vote for somebody, tomorrow they will still say something bad against whatsoever we do now will appear next morning.  Let's hope for some good with this election Paul Okony Apok, Sudan

Appreciates efforts of Sudanese in election Despite lack of trust in the electoral body and obvious suspicion of rigging by the NCP and the SPLM as well, I appreciate the effort made by people of SUDAN by standing up in the morning of today against all odds to cast their votes in favor of their candidates. We hope that SUDAN is entering a crucial stage of democracy. Rigging and intimidation are part of politics in Africa and people falling prey to such situations should not cry loud everyday because this is why we have opposition to fight and highlight the problems to the observing parties. Alier Malual Dot, Kenya

Pagan is wrong My brother Jwathob Othwo. Do not get me wrong!Sorry. I am not from Dinka tribe as you are now putting it for me without finding my correct identification. Kirr is Kirr! Abiko is Abiko! I am from Otuho tribe from Eastern Bank in Eastern Equatoria State in Torit. I don't belong to any political party both in the South and in the north. "I am a layman!" I am neutral in political affairs of Sudan. I am not supporting anymore because there is no more fighting in the bush in the movement because the peace accord have been attained in 2005. For Pagan Amum, SPLM Secretary General problem in the party SPLM/SPLA, he is wrong! I am not supposed to regret at all at this point! Chief Abiko, USA

SPLM can't succeed as tribal party Reply to Peter & Chief Abiko The downfall of Kiir will be Kiir himself because he has surrounded himself with many Dinka thugs who are egocentric, power hungry and tribalistic. They are driven by the insane idea of the so-called “Born to rule” which's ingrained in their minds. Our Dinka brothers seem to think that SPLM is a Dinka movement instead of a national movement that includes all tribes of South Sudan. Being SPLM’s supporter does not mean one cannot disagree with the way the movement is handling its affairs. Much of the  rhetorical hate against SG Pagan Amum has been carried out by President Kiir and his kinsmen like Chief Abiko and Peter Chol, calling SG Pagan Amum junior official. No decent leader and intelligent citizens could use vicious tribalism in a national movement. The SPLM cannot succeed as political party where other non-Dinka tribes are singled out for ridicule on basis of their tribes rather than characters. Jwothab Othwow, USA

Why Dr. Machar is a better leader In response to the question why I mentioned only Dr. Machar as a good leader in GOSS asked by M. James: As you may know that leaders are not appreciated on tribal basis, but rather on how they try their level best to accomplish the tasks.  However, put in mind or be advised that when you are in school doing school assignment or project, not all your best supportive details you can put in your composition essay if an essay assignment length is limited by your professor. You are free to point out whoever you think performs the same role as Dr. Machar is doing in GOSS base on your convenient judgment. I see Dr. Machar roves back and forth a lot in order to get the things done more than every one at GOSS  level. If you live in Juba as one of the GOSS ministers, I would encourage you to assist Dr. Machar in his push for the success of South when your regime's being re-elected to the office. Moses Dang Gatluak, Calgary, AB Canada

Junior appropriate to SG Pagan Amum The objective of this piece of writing is to response to the comment made by Mr. Jwothab Othow, USA, with title "SPLM Divided." Dear brother Othow, I am here not to push you off the cliff but to rectify something that you had placed incorrectly. I think you have misinterpreted the term used by first Vice-President of Republic of Sudan and President of South Sudan, Mr. Kiir Mayardit. The word “Junior” has a lot of meanings that are attached to it, When I read your commentary it seem that you have pick a  negative portion of the word “Junior” and addressed it to the media. Here are words that imply 'Junior:'  low-ranking, subordinate, minor, inferior, low-grade, and less important.

For your information, when Mr. Mayardit referred to SG Mr. Pagan Amun as Junior he was not implying negative side of word as you thought, but was he's comparing his position to that of Mr. Amun. If you don’t know, Mr. Amun is of low-ranking to Mr. Mayardit. By that I meant to tell you that he is Mr. Mayardit’s subordinate. Although Mr. Amun is SG still he is under Mayardit’s supervision and Mr. Mayardit was right to call him junior because Mayardit is the chairperson to so speak. I do not see any disrespect in that sense, even Mr. Amun can agree with me in this case.

Coming to their ranking position back in SPLA, Mr. Amun was junior to Mr. Mayardit. They have never been that close by any means. Therefore, I don’t know why calling Mr. Amun Junior is a big deal as you have addressed in your commentary. I am here not to defend any one, but to tell everyone on this site that whenever we see a spoon, let’s call it a spoon and not a spade. I mean it is very creditable to read in-between the lines and get the implication of word correctly before we voice our remarks to the media. I hope the rest of colleagues including Mr. Othow will agree with me on this remark. If there is anything that I have misplaced, please speak it out. Thank you in advance, and let’s be wise for the best in the  upcoming elections. My God Bless Sudan as whole. Reuben Panchol, USA

Election and informed voting Some Southern Sudanese who have little or no understanding of political issues and the complexity of decision making, have taken to the internet to express that Dr. Lam Akol is a traitor. Some even accused him of being an agent of the NCP and resisting separation or self-government. Of course it is very clear and evidence that many of these accusers have no understanding of democracy. These are people who will vote a person into power not based on his ability to reason but on tribal basis.
I encourage my fellow Southern Sudanese to research and inform themselves about Southern Sudan’s issues and how well the Politicians are placed to respond to the immense challenges of today. Corrupt acts that continue to take away money from substantial development activities for our people, tribal divide and most importantly insecurity (the threat of death and the likes) for people who may not agree with the ruling government cannot be allowed to continue if Southern Sudan is going to survive. Come on fellow Sudanese, wake up to democracy and be well informed before casting your vote this April. Martin Modal, USA

You touched my heart Dear Michael Deng, in fact, what you really  wrote touched my inner heart to its bottom; so you stated every issue in your article which's what I had support for it of course, my friend. Actually you did touch all the corners of the weakness of the SPLM since their nomination for their candidacy who could willingly contest against Al Bashir. Monyluak Kur, USA

South Sudan Tribal Politics It is a misfortune to read articles contributed by tribal politicians in southern Sudan, especially those directed by emotional feelings. We tend to blame governments when we can’t control our tongues and fingers on the Internet. Our motives have always been destructive, invective, disintegrative, etc instead of being educative or persuasive to do the right thing to build our infant nation “South Sudan.”. Many who read these articles may feel irritated or demoralized to see a nation that has suffered for generations to indulge itself in unproductive campaign.
There are many things which need to be corrected when we put our Nation first, and above our personal desires. The Ministries you talked of are not securely built; as they are all confined together like stores in a Mall. Should anything happen (God forbid) nothing will remain!  Many countries in Middle East, Europe and America have their Ministries scattered to various provinces or states due to several reasons. This could answer some of the grievances you expressed in terms of land, representation etc. apart from security, services and development those Ministries would provide national wide. It would be good idea if the GoSS government could consider relocation of some ministries mainly for security and service deliverance. Charles Kenyi, Canada
